drk3351ParticipantBlake Griffin. He does not get the respect he deserves here. He is averaging 23 and 9 a night on 53% shooting, and has really stepped up his game this season. He is shooting a career high 70% from the line and is now an actaul mid-range shooting threat. He just dropped 43 on the Heat and he needs to be recognized.
The fact is he is way more than just a dunker like some people think he is. He is a excellent post player who crashes the boards and takes good shots. Also he runs the floor really well and finshes better than anyone with a head of speed (besides LeBron). Underrated IMO. Also he had a 23 PER good for 10th in the league.

flopdownDIve been saying this, he is not just a dunker yo, he has very nice post moves, decent mid ranger and prob the biggest coast to coast threat at the 4 in the entire NBA. He is inconsistent, drifts amd is careless on defense, but he is not just a dunker.

BrentSuriaga01ParticipantHe is also a FLOPPER. If Divac was the god of flopping, Blake would be Jesus.

For_Never_EverParticipantYour over looking Lebron. I actually dont see any players getting fouled and hit like Griffin does by players trying to send a message. He actually takes it in stride and goes about his business. Do you think Lebron would ?

hoopgeniusParticipantAt his position he is a vastly underrated ball handler and passer. I’ve been saying this for a couple years now. His footwork is also very underrated he’s very nimble for someone of his physical stature. Spin moves in the open floor are not the norm for a 6-9 260lb PF. His dunk last season on Gallinari was much more than just a dunk. The spin move before the dunk was crazy!

Critically ThinkingParticipantbefore even clicking on the topic, in my head i said "this thread is definitely going to be about blake griffin."
He played like a monster tonight and I think the injury to Chris Paul has really helped him in his development in the long run. It has also helped his public perception from the fans because the Clippers have continued to play at a high level with Griffin as the alpha dog, other than losing three of their last 4. (One on a really heartbreaking buzzer beater in Denver.)
I don’t know if it was the lack of pressure because the Clippers were down six already in the waning seconds, but I thought Blake Griffin looked very comfortable hitting that three pointer to cut the deficit in half on the wing. Not saying he has three point range, but if he continues to work hard it could become a part of his game at some stage of his career. He has begun to look more and more comfortable from the mid range but still hesitates to shoot it at times when left open.

kanuflengParticipanti think the positive thing from cp3 being injured is that blake is being a leader for the clips. his stats are up and he is being more assertive with the improvement on midrange j and free throw. he also developed this high-low alley-oop with DeAndre 3000. he can still improve on his defense even though he has short arms.

Bmore_DCParticipantI think its his defense that holds him back…otherwise, i think anyone who knows anything about basketball knows he one of the best big men in the game regardless.

tuck243ParticipantHe still has the same moves that won’t work in the playoffs. Continues to go to that right hand and only goes left when its a spin move. Just because he torched the Heat doesn’t mean anything. The Heat ALWAYS have trouble with aggressive big men. It’s their weakness. I don’t see how he could be “underrated” as he was put in the “Best PF” category early in his career w/o winning any games. Or showing he could be that “go to” player when it counts. Yes he has improved what he could already do, but I would like for him to actually add things to his game. So far he’s like the LeBron James (the LeBron of the Cavs) of PF’s. Great game, but only improving on things he’s already decent at. Wasn’t until LeBron got a post game is where he took off as a player. Blake need to get easy baskets on his own and I feel like everytime I watch him score in the low post he has to damn near run someone over to get 2 points. Yes, he’s improved. But the Clippers won’t go far with the current Blake Griffin. He have to get better.

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantI didn’t think he was this good offensively until Chris Paul went down. I live in Southern Cali so I’ve been watching nearly every Clipper game and wow has he impressed me.
No question he’s in the same conversation as Aldridge and Love as the best PFs in the L.

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantBefore the Chris Paul injury: (23-12)
- Blake Griffin: 22.1 PPG – 52% FG – 10.6 RPG – 3.1 APG – 1.0 SPG
- Jamal Crawford: 16.5 PPG – 2.2 RPG – 2.4 APG
- DeAndre Jordan: 9.4 PPG – 13.5 RPG – 2.3 BPG
After the Chris Paul injury: (11-6)
- Blake Griffin: 27 PPG – 54% FG – 8.2 RPG – 4.5 APG – 1.4 SPG
- Jamal Crawford: 22.1 PPG – 2.5 RPG – 4.9 APG
- DeAndre Jordan: 10.8 PPG – 15.1 RPG – 2.5 BPG
Talk about picking up the slack, they’ve kept nearly an identical win% despite losing their best player and top-PG in the NBA.
During this stretch, Blake Griffin has proven he’s ELITE.

Jester87ParticipantIt has to be said they had a really easy schedule, they played 9 of those 18 games against .500 or better teams and they won just 4 of them, 2 against Dallas, one against Chicago and another one against Atlanta (with both the Bulls and the Hawks being exactly .500 or barely over in the Eastern Conference). They lost against Indiana, San Antonio, Denver, Golden State and Miami.
Obviously what they did is still impressive and I wrote a post a few weeks ago on Griffin (http://www.nbadraft.net/forum/nba-ball-what-makes-kevin-love-and-blake-griffin-better-demarcus-cousins#comment-616607) being unappreciated. I also liked an article Zach Lowe wrote about him for Grantland, check it out.

Land of GrantParticipantI think that when Blake gets older, like on his fourth contract (including rookie), he’s gonna develop into a pick and pop 4 with 3 point range, a la Rasheed Wallace. He’s real hardworking and is always trying to improve his game, and I think 33 year old Blake Griffin will be a really good player. So glad the "all he does is dunk" brigade is dying out.
Here’s my all "so overrated he’s underrated" team
PG: Tyreke Evans
SG: Joe Johnson
SF: Rudy Gay
PF: Carmelo Anthony
C: Blake Griffin
I think guys that get big contracts and then don’t quite justify the money expenditure usually become prime "so overrated hes underrated" candidates.

druneave3ParticipantAgree with everything, but you failed to mention defense anywhere in your post. If he wants to be great he needs to vastly improve in this area.
