fliptonnParticipantIn the upcoming competition committee meeting the NBA is expected to address the flopping issue in the NBA. While this is long over due it’s great that they are finally looking at it. Stern seems adamant about putting an end to this trend reffering to the term not as flopping but rather "trickery" and "deceit" he also says it questions the merits of the game. Hopefully the committee comes down with an iron fist with major penalties for flopping.

Jlv2012Sucks for guys like reggie evans because he’s not really good at anything else. Not sure how the Heat or Clippers are going to contend for championships since they won’t be able to flop as much anymore.

PulseGlazerParticipantReggie Evans is at least "good" as a rebounder. Come on.

Memphis MadnessParticipantJeff Van Gundy said that they basically shouldn’t call it. An offensive foul is an offensive foul. But if someone is flopping all over the court and the offensive player had the right-a-way then there is nothing the defensive player can do.
I think that they can make a flop a delay of game penalty. If you wanna waste time then fine, the other team is gonna get a technical free throw shot.
If there is an offensive foul or a defensive foul then fine, hopefully the refs are smart enough to figure it out. But you shouldn’t have to “sell” a play, this isn’t professional wrestling.

TyroberParticipantThey do not need instant replay or anything like that. The easiest way to do it is too have someone watch a tape of the games and if a player flopped then they are fined 10k. Once you start taking their money I can promise you they will start staying on their feet. I love the Miami HEAT, but watching Battier and Chamlers fall on the floor every other play is ridiculous.

B-ball fanParticipantRefs also need to start calling fouls when players don’t flop, though. Refs too often only call fouls when a player falls to the ground, but don’t call fouls on other dirty plays that don’t leave anybody on the floor.

benny15Participantyes, i agree completely. it has to work both ways, you cant say players shouldnt flop when games are called in favor of the offensive player. as mentioned earlier, a player shouldnt have to sell a foul, but if there is one, regardless of the effect on the defensive player, call it. I really think stern opened the gates to all these flopping due to changing the rules on defense on what players are allowed and not allowed to do.
even if a player plays good clean defense and beats his man to the position and the offensive makes a strong contact but the defender is moved but able to hold his ground due to being strong enough to take the hit, its a no call. however, if the exact same play happens and the defender sells the call by exagerating his movement, then its an offensive foul. i question why calls are being made at the effect of a play rather than the cause of it.
a charging call should be made when the offensive player tries to take over the spot or space of his defender. but when an offensive player does exactly that but runs into a strong defender in the right spot who doesnt fly or drop, then its a no call in the NBA.
its very double standard since if you switch the roles, and a defensive player tries to take his opponents spot but is late, impacts the offensive player who is still able to go on due to being strong enough, then its still called a blocking foul. if stern really wants to remove the flops in the league, then he has to issue his refferees in calling it even on both ends of the floor.

TallmanNYCParticipantAgreed B-Ball. How many times have you seen a defensive player draw the charge call without falling down? Probably never. If the offensive player charges into you and instead of you falling down, you stumble back but stay on your feet, then you won’t get a charge called on the offensive player. You have to fall down to get the refs to call a charge, which basically means you have to flop in that you have to let yourself fall. But that isn’t the flops we are worried about, even though it is still a flop.

benny15Participantthose may not be the flops we’re worried about, but they are the source of the ones that we do.
