Living in New Zealand, I’m really excited that we’re going to have a major NBA prospect in the future who can take New Zealand basketball to new heights. Although, I’m not really able to watch games of Adams in the US but looking at his stats, they don’t seem to be lottery type numbers. Can anyone tell me how he’s doing and why he’s not on the new Mock Lottery for 2013 and yet he’s still on the Consensus?

He’s got every physical tool you would want for a C. To me he’s the best physical specimen in this class if he declares, but he’s raw and passive. He doesn’t look to shoot or make himself available and when he does he’s not passed the ball. He’s starting, but he’s part of a 4 man big rotation and he’s being brought along slowly, which is par for the course for his coach.

If I don’t see enough progress by the end of conference play, i’m taking him out of 2013 too.

Hard to bang in the post in the Big East for a young big man but he seems to be doing alright for a frost. That being said I’ve seen some publications list him at 6′ 10”. I don’t know how effective he can be at PF in the NBA so he might end up being a bit undersized for C at the next level.

He’s taller than the guy in your avatar, with long arms a strong base and is already 250 lbs. I think he easily has NBA C size.

the key word was “he might end up”. Some publications have listed him at 7 feet. Others have listed him at 6′ 10” (SLAM, ESPN, Rivals). Until we see him measured up, I’m not sure what to believe. Yeah if he’s at 250 lbs that definitely bodes well for him though.

6-10 is not considered as short as it used to be for a center, it is a decent height now, there is not many 7 footers any more.

thanks for that pic, hadn’t seen that yet. Yeah Dwight is about 6′ 9.5” without shoes so Adams is at least an inch taller. Yep he might actually be 7 feet in shoes, definitely impressive

I was just about to say Adams and Dwight took a pic together where Adams was clearly a few inches taller and didn’t look scrawny at all standing next to him.

Also when Noels who is 6’10 barefoot played Adams, Adams was clearly the larger guy.

Adams looks like Byron Mullens and is built like Yao wit a strong lower base. I really like his potential and hope he stays atleast 2 years in college so he can develop.

The last worry about Adams should be his size. He’s plenty big. He has gotten off to a slow start, but there is a lot to like with Adams. I think he is a lottery pick but that is predicated on the belief that he will continue to get better on a game by game basis. He has to start picking it up soon.

Don’t worry too much about the stats big men do not develop as young as guards, Alex Len’s stats were similar as a true freshman and now he is arguably the best player in the country

Jamie Dixon sucks at developing young players or NBA at all for that matter. I hated when Adams went to Pitt and you can tell he’s not being used enough early in the season.

No he doesn’t. Dixon is a good coach and if the player has any patience, he’ll actually learn something. The only gripe I have with the way Adams is being treated is that Dixon doesn’t let him play through foul trouble in the first half. That’s it. Otherwise, Adams is being developed how raw bigs should be developed: slowly.
How else is he supposed to be used with his current skill set?

He is one of the most overrated coaches in NCAAB, along with Rick Barnes. He always has a top seeded team in the tournament and always loses in the first couple rounds. He sucks at recruiting and always tries to recruit those undersized hardworkers which is fine, but those players only get you so far in the tournament.

Jamie Dixon can coach and is just ok at recruiting (Adams kinda just fell into his lap because of Dixon’s NZ connections). He doesn’t TRY to recruit a certain type, but Pitt doesn’t not have the cache of the schools who perennially get blue chippers. Rick Barnes can recruit, but he can’t coach. You can tell the difference b/t the 2 by the way both of their teams execute. I don’t see any similarities b/t them at all tbh.
