bennydabullParticipantI remember when I thought Swift going to the Rockets a few years back with Yao and a healthy Tmac would push them to win the title
Boy was I wrong…

JNixonParticipantLol why did you think that?

ghettosermonParticipantIf Tyrus Thomas wants a look into future as to what his career will be in 5 years all he needs to do is look at Stromile Swift. Their careers will be identical.

bennydabullParticipantTmac was my favorite player at the time and I was super optimistic ahaha

iguapops420Participant^^^agreed. thought stro was just being held back playing alongside pau and gooden. couldnt even beat out chuck hayes.

freddy79ParticipantBoth LSU, both from Louisiana. But I think that in the end Tyrus could have a better career. At least, a worse one is not an option…

dipt1982ParticipantAnd people still think Anthony Randolph is gonna be good…LOL
0 - Posted on: Mon, 08/09/2010 - 6:19am #371378
IndianaBasketballParticipantI made this comparison in an argument with gatorheels a few months ago.
Thomas = Swift
Two very similar players, though Thomas might have the more stable NBA career.

IndianaBasketballParticipant“And people still think Anthony Randolph is gonna be good…LOL”
I’m not sure how good Randolph will be, but he’s actually a different player than both Swift and Thomas. Randolph’s IQ is low like theirs lol, but he has a lot more talent and ability than they do.

joecheck88Participantanother good one is ty thomas murdering josh smith, check that one out on youtube. it was filthy.

halfdecayedParticipantPeople who say Anthony Randolph will not have success in this league , well laern some more about Basketball…
0 - Posted on: Mon, 08/09/2010 - 7:41am #371402
dipt1982ParticipantIndiana, I wasn’t comparing them as players, just stating the obvious, LSU players have not performed well in the NBA…

buckeyefanParticipantWhat about Big baby?

HueBoND 2001ParticipantTyrus Thomas and Stromile Swift have in common
THEY DONT HAVE GAURDS THAT CAN FEED THE BALL TO THEM. They are runners and guys that need to be set up.
Swift and jason williams shows you the potential of swift when in the right system. The year the grizzlies almost won a championship.
Tyrus thomas in a slowed down offense doesnt work but having him run free ala shawn marion would be great for him.
I feel sorry for these guys wrong place wrong time and that comes to alot of NBA teams. For me a team like the miami heat shouldve dive at the opportunity to get bonsu and swift. Now outside of the big three I see them as a runner for champions of the east coast and thats about it.

CameronParticipantI’m sorry but I must have been in a coma for the year the Grizzlies “almost won a championship”

the fanParticipantI think if the Suns had acquired Tyrus instead of Hakim Warrick, that Thomas would have a nice season. He really needs to get consistent minutes at this point, or he will just be Stro 2.0.

dipt1982ParticipantRecently…Big Baby is decent, but is he a star? Shaq was damn near 20 years ago, I’m talking more with in the past decade…I don’t see any Shaq’s on the LSU bench this season, do you?

sheltwon3ParticipantSwift was always getting injuries and also he never really improved but actually looked pretty good early on. Randolph and Thomas have shown more promise but have been inconsistent. Swift is not the only player that got sucked up by the Grizzlies curse so to speak. Remember Shareef Abdur Rahim. He was a pretty good player but I think he never played a playoff game.

sheltwon3ParticipantMarcus Thornton is LSU and Chris Jackson was pretty good. Swift was the only guy that really is a wash. Thomas is still young and actually have more to his game than Swift and Randolph actually put up decent numbers in limited games last year. Randolph is in a good system while Thomas is not in the best system but if he starts and also Livingston could play well and get him a lot of lobs. I think both players will have better careers than Swift.
Some of the stuff with Swift was wrong team wrong time. He could have had a decent but not spectacular career if not for injuries and not being a good fit. He had too much raw ability not to be serviceable at times which he showed one season.
So far too me Randolph is in the better situation and has been more consistent than Thomas who seems like he could be a great energy guy at worst.

NarcParticipantWhat’s with all the LSU hate….didn’t Shaq go to LSU? I rest my case. Guys like Chris Jackson (AKA Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf) who was a two time All-American went to LSU. Jeez you guys were talking like LSU was just a run of the mill college program.
And the difference between Randolph and Thomas/Swift is that Randolph, unlike them, has range to the 3 point line and is a way more consistent jump shooter.
