Amar’e Stoudemire’s free-agency stint could be short-lived. A source familiar with the negotiations confirmed that Stoudemire received a better offer on Thursday from another NBA team than anything he has or expects to receive from the Suns.

The source said Stoudemire could agree to that deal as soon as Friday, leaving the Suns in the market for a replacement power forward.

Stoudemire met with Miami Heat President Pat Riley on Wednesday night, moments after the free agency period opened, but it’s unclear whether the Heat is the team which made the offer. Stoudemire and agent Happy Walters have a planned visit with the New York Knicks on Monday in New York. He also has several other meetings in the works, including one with the Chicago Bulls.

With Stoudemire apparently out of the picture,  the Suns are said to be on the verge of offering restricted free agent Tyrus Thomas a contract of undisclosed terms on Friday.

Thomas was an enigma in his nearly four seasons with the Chicago Bulls, showing flashes of athleticism and shot-blocking ability. But he was also a locker room distraction at times.

The fourth overall pick in the 2006 draft was suspended for one game last February for conduct detrimental to the team. Teammate Lindsey Hunter suggested at the time that the 23-year-old Thomas still had some growing up to do.

"Life is full of trials and tribulations," Hunter told reporters. "If you get frustrated every time you have (a problem), then you’re going to live a pretty frustrated life.”

Fed up with his antics, the Bulls traded Thomas to Charlotte later that month. He has averaged eight points and 5.2 rebounds in his career.

While Thomas has shown potential, he is clearly a downgrade from Stoudemire, who had been seeking at least a five-year deal in the free-agent market. The Suns were apparently only willing to go as long as four years, amid concerns about his history of knee and eye surgeries.

The Phoenix Suns are showing the most interest in athletic power forward Hakim Warrick and have begun exchanging potential salary figures with Warrick’s representatives, according to sources close to the situation.

New York and Denver have also expressed initial interest, sources said.

Warrick himself, meanwhile, is said to still have some interest in re-signing in Chicago, where he finished last season after a midseason trade with Milwaukee. But the Bulls’ obvious first priority is their ongoing pursuit of multiple marquee free agents.

This is random but it reminds me, Lindsey Hunter should be on the bench and start coaching, of course not as a head but he could eventually. He was a great defensive minded player and he pretty much was a player coach to Derrick Rose when he was a rookie

I think Thomas is going back to Charlotte, they gave him the Q.O.

The Suns are surprising me. I like the Frye resign and I like Warrick pickup as well. That and if Nash could bring along Earl Clark next season? They have 5 solid bigs in Frye, Clark, Lawal, Warrick and Lopez

haha 5 solid bigs and you include a second round rookie (lawal) and an underachieving bum (earl clark). Lawal could prove to be ok given time, but Earl Clark will not develop and was overrated coming out. Has body and potential but so did kwame. Clark is crap

How do we know? Earl Clark was stuck behind Hill and Dudley. He has potential. I think he could be a solid player if Nash helps him.

Boris Diaw was the same scab before he went to the Suns. Now he’s a good player because he had help and he was able to develop.

Dude was a rookie last season, hop off the man’s nuts.

Umm, dude Earl Clark doesn’t play much because of the ridiculously good bench of the Suns.

    Frye
    Amundson
    Dudley
    Barbosa
    Dragic

Almost any rookie wouldn’t have had much playing time on that team. Especially considering the fact that Nash, Stoudemire, Barbosa, Dragic NEVER get tired! Lol

It’s his first year.. Remember a guy named Kobe? Check his first year. Not saying Clark is going to be the next Kevin Durant or anything, but he’s not suppose to be a star, he was the 14th pick for god’s sake, give him some time to be a role player.
