Having heard about the alleged Waiters "pledge", as a Suns fan I have mixed emotions. I like the fit of Waiters at the combo guard spot, but I can’t help but be drawn to the flashier Austin Rivers instead.  Both solid combo guards, I just feel Rivers would have a bigger immediate impact on the team. Thoughts?

Both would be great for phoenix. Waiters has a Wade type body, plays good defense,  plays both guard positins which means he can move without the ball, pretty good shooter and 3 point shooter.

Rivers measured at 6’5 in shoes, is a flat out scoring machine. Can handle the basketball like a point guard. Wants to be a star and take the clutch shots. Needs to get more bulk and strength and work on his D this summer, maybe prove to us in the summer league he can guard.

Both would help Phoenix instantly but i just cant help but go with Rivers, he’s not even 20 yet, he knows the nba game because of his dad, wants to be a star (something Suns need now) and would be that go-to 20ppg guy possibly.

Both are great fits. I honestly think one of them will be gone when the Suns pick and they will pick whoevers left between the two and be extremely happy.

I agree with Tyrober. It is possible that both will be gone before the Suns pick.

Rivers will most likely be the one gone between Toronto Portland New Orleans.

…but damn, does he need a ton of maturing.  I get the Allen Iverson vibe from him, despite his bloodline.

I’d love Rivers for the Suns but if we end up with Waiters then I won’t complain.

He has a better midrange game than Rivers and a better long-range game than Waiters.  He can go to his left or right and has good defensive instincts and IQ.

too much is made about Rivers bloodline.  he said himself, his dad didnt train him or mold his game, his dad gave him space to be what he wanted and he is the player he developed himself into.  watching Doc Rivers play and watching Austin is like night and day.  Austin seems easily discouraged and he is kinda stuck on himself.  He only seems confident when things are going his way.

anyway…both of these guys could be gone, and its hard to tell which one would fall to the Suns….there are things about both of them that suggest they both could go in the top 10.

Doc Rivers never gave himself a douchey nickname like "Sub-Zero". Doc Rivers is a stand up guy, well mannered and highly respected.  Their games and attitudes are worlds apart….
