What are your thoughts on the game? Brandon Triche has been lights out but MCW has been absolutely harassed by Russ Smith and Louisvilles zone defense, coughing up the ball 7 times!

I have seen MCW play 4 times this year……..he has not went crazy once. He didn’t look way better than Ray being MCW is a projected lottery pick this year and my man from Temple was killing him! I mean shining on him. Making BIG plays. I see some potential but I look past the stats at what I see. Watching him play he doesn’t really stick out like that. A couple good passes here and there, jump a passing lane or two, throw a oop. Now that Tre Burke……..

First time watching a complete MCW game. Looks good, but I think he needs to stay at least another year, if not 2.

I agree, but he will leave seeing he is 20 and his stock is pretty high; I always though he wasn’t athletic but that last dunk in the final seconds was crazy

MCW will be 22 by the time the next NBA season starts. As for what a team is getting in him here’s his pros and cons:

Pros: athletic 6’6 PG, great court vision, great passing ability (first in assists in D1), excels at finishing around the rim, great defense (fourth in steals in D1)

Cons: won’t suit up until he is 22, streaky jump shot, tries to force passes and shots when offense is stalling, only 185 pounds, can occasionally get sloppy with ball handling

I think he’s a lottery prospect, especially if he adds 5-15 more pounds as well as an improved jumper. His ball handling is usually fine, but you could see the Louisville press was giving him some trouble, and even let Triche bring it up a few times, which has never happened this season until today. I’m wondering how he’ll adjust when he faces a top NBA defender like Chris Paul. His height brings more pros than cons, but it can be a slight disadvantage when going up against the top pickpockets in the NBA.

This game showed why MCW is so well regarded. He was forced into a bunch of TO’s by Louisville’s D and he continued his streak of poor shooting but when the game was on the line- he found a way to win it by playing excellent defense. If he can get his shooting/scoring together then the kid is going to be a monster. His passing, rebounding and defense are excellent but as a scorer- he’s sub par at best.

Triche (23pt-6reb-2ast) was absolutely unstoppable in the first half. 7-7 shooting, 4-4 from 3, for 18 points. I’m hoping a team takes a look at him for this upcoming draft. He’s started every game in his Syracuse career and deserves a shot at making an NBA roster.

MCW (16pt-7ast-4reb-4stl) had a few stupid turnovers in the first half, but ended up having only 1 turnover in the second half which was a good bounce back. He also had a timely lineup and three pointer on consecutive possessions that got us back in the game. His defense down the stretch was the difference. He picked off Siva’s pass and took it to the bucket to put Syracuse ahead, and then the next play he ripped the ball from Dieng with 10 seconds left and sealed the deal. He persevered and overcame a difficult start to lead us to the upset win.

And as for MCW’s draft situation, he’ll definitely be leaving Syracuse this season. He’s a 21 year old sophomore. He needs to add some more strength, ball handling skills, and more range on his jumper, but he looks to be a lottery pick with his court vision and potential.

As for Louisville, I was impressed with Russ Smith (25pt-2reb-1ast-4stl). I’m surprised he wasn’t handling the ball in crunch time since he was on fire, but I can’t blame them for going with the Senior in Siva and trying to work it inside to Dieng since Syracuse was using Baye Moussa Keita down low for the majority of the second half.

If you missed this game, you missed one of the best college basketball games this season. Easily in the top 5, if not the best. It was going back and forth the whole game. Can’t wait for the rematch on March 2.

Peyton Siva has so much potential but I doubt he ever reaches it, he makes terrible terrible decisions at the wrong time.

I wish Russ Smith was just a couple inches taller, he’s a dynamtie scorer but only stands 6’0 and has no point guard in him what so ever, plays out of control toooo much.

MCW- reminds me of Shaun Livingston a bit, I seen some of him today and all of him against UofD(Ray McCallum) and he’s ok, but I think his size for his position is what gets the GM’s juices flowing.

Siva has so much potential? Based on what? He’s a small senior PG with a below average IQ and limited skill.
He still aims his shots and he can only dribble with his right hand. He’s only as good as he is because Pitino’s a great coach and because he plays with toughness.
He’s a college system PG with very little pro potential.

For what it’s worth, one of the NBA scouts apparently has MCW in his top 5 right now for this years draft.
