McDunkinWe’ve heard a few dispatches about Wolves GM David Kahn‘s pursuit of an additional big man in recent days, and Darren Wolfson provides further detail on 1500ESPN.com. We’ve got the highlights here:
- Though earlier reports seemed to indicate the Wolves weren’t seeking to trade for a big man, Wolfson hears the team has asked Anthony Tolliver to be patient as the team seeks a trade to free up more cap room. Tolliver’s agent has said his client is not interested in the minimum salary, which is all the Minnesota has to offer free agents. Even though Tolliver has been with the Wolves the past two seasons, the team renounced his Early Bird rights earlier in the summer to clear room for Nicolas Batum‘s offer sheet. Tolliver is reportedly in "constant contact" with a handful of teams, including the Wolves.
- We heard yesterday that Andray Blatche and Hassan Whiteside worked out in front of a Wolves scout, and according to Wolfson, Blatche is "said to be open" to signing for the veteran’s minimum.
- Mehmet Okur is a "long shot" to sign with Minnesota, a source close to Okur tells Wolfson. The 6’11" outside marksman is seeking more than the minimum.
- Wolfson reported last week that Josh Harrellson isn’t in the Wolves’ plans because the 6’10" former Knick doesn’t possess the requisite length. Chris Andersen, who’s the same height, apparently possesses a wingspan that fits what Kahn and company are looking for, but the Wolves aren’t considering him, either.

CodySLCParticipantThe Wolves are set at the 4 spot, and at 6"8 i think Tolliver is better suited at the 4. So i dont think he will be resigned. They already have Love, and Williams and A.K. who can play some 4 and the 3.
At center the Wolves have Nikola Pekovic who’s a good quality starting 5, and Greg Stiemsma as his back up who is a terrific shot blocker. So they’re probably looking for a 3rd string center. Depending on where they’re minds are at I’d give either Whiteside or Blatche a shot.

Chilbert arenasParticipantSomeone’s gotta pick up Whiteside and Blatch. I’m surprised the Heat haven’t showed more interest in them. Wolves at this point are dealing with house money because they don’t NEED either so they can take the risk.

tonyl33ParticipantI think Blatch to the wolves would be a real good pickup for the mininum. If he stops being such a knuckle head he could be a very good pick up. He has the ability to play the 4-5 position and a very mobile big who can knock down the mid range. Has decent handels for a guy his size. He should go work out with the Dream to make teams look at him seriously.

WolfRobParticipantI don’t think Blatch can afford to workout with the Dream… Haha
& when big men have "a good handle" it usually means they think they are a guard and play too
Much on the perimeter.
