Al-Farouq AminuParticipantI think Jeff is clearly better than Elligton.
About a month ago, Teague was predicted as a top 10 pick, while Ellington was a early 2nd round pick.
But now, this site’s predictions have changed way too much, even draftexpress.com is not rating Ellington that high. Teague is a lot more athletic than Ellington, and the reason that Ellington has raised so high is probably due to the fact that UNC won the championship. But look at players in the past 4 years who won a championship, none of have made the All-Star team or have star potential:
Emeka Okafor
Ben Gordon
Charlie Villanueva
Marvin Williams
Sean May
Raymond Felton
Rashad McChants
Jokim Noah
Al Horford
Corey Brewer
Mario Chalmers
Brandon Rush
Darnell Jackson

nthegoodlifeParticipantI agree with you. I’m not to big on Wayne, I think he has many things he wont be able to do at the next level. However, as great as Teague can play, he can also disappear. Ask Cleveland State. If Teague would always show up and play to his potential, he has the talent to be the best in this class.

thefigsParticipantIts true that Teague has more upside then Ellington, but they also play different positions in the NBA . This will make it an easier transition for Ellington in their first year. He will be asked to be a shooter off of some good teams bench. While Teague will have a harder time running a team like Minnesota.

NBAdraftRoom.comParticipantI think Teague has a higher upside and will also be drafted higher than Ellington. He’s got a lot to learn and Ellington is certainly a more polished player that this point but if Teague goes to the right situation with the right coaching he could be an allstar for years to come. Ellington could have a great career too. He reminds me a bit of Allen Houston.

Al-Farouq AminuParticipantTeague is like Devin Harris/Ellis,
Ellington is like Cuttino Mobley/McChants0 - Posted on: Tue, 04/28/2009 - 9:13am #147617
ncballerTeague has more potential than Wayne, but Wayne pretty much imposed his will on any player guarding him in the last 2 months of his college career. I was one who was REALLY high on Teague after his tear early in the year. I even went as far to say on another message board that I would take him number 1 and not look back. (shows how much I know) Towards the end it didn’t seem like he cared. I am like most of you on this thread. Teague has the tools to be a better pro, but right now the safer pick IMHO is Ellington.

bluedevils12Participantits hard 2 compare bcuz they play different positions. I like both players and both players games are different. Wayne is smooth and jeff is a attacking monster. TEague is relentless and never stops when his game is on. I think both will be ok in the L but Teague will prob have a better impact

CitrusiswowParticipantTeague is definitely better, but you have Mario Chalmers on your list of not “all-star potential,” I totally disagree Chalmers is a good leader and the other night had around 14 points 5 steals and 5 assists. He has potential, but it might take a few more years to show.

billykParticipantAl Horford and Mario Chalmers are both solid young players so I think they have a chance to make an all star team. I think Teague seems to be scared in the big moment, but he does have the tools to be a good point guard.. Didnt Teague play SG later on in the season? I dont think Ellington will do much in the league he seems limited to me.

ncballerTeague is either non-existant in the big moment or a cold blooded killer in the big moment. (See Clevland State and UNC)

canesboy6ParticipantI think Wayne has a game that is very well suited for the pros. He does the most underrated thing, that tends to seperate the ok players from those who stick. He shoots it extremely well. Mid range, close in, long range he can flat out shoot. Teague isn’t ready for the NBA 3 yet, and isn’t ready to run point in hte NBA, so essentially he is another athletic 6’2 combo scoring guard, who compltely dissapeared the last half of the season. When Teague is on, he dominates, but why isn’t he always on? If he hit a wall in the college season, what the hell is gonna happen with twice as many games to play? I must say, his second half soured me on him. Teague has more potential to be a star i think, but a team in the late lottery who has a young nucleus in place to build a contender and needs a shooter should jump all over Wayne. He has alot of Allen Houston, Richard Hamilton, and Ray allen in his game. He is a proven champion, and that list at the begininng has a lot of quality starters on it so im not sure what point was bieng made. He has 0 bust factor, he will be a decent defender and great shooter in the league.

tkd720manParticipantTeague definitely needs another year of college – he’s just too inconsistent right now. He had a big early season, but fizzled down the stretch. That’ll fix itself with time.
Ellington is under-rated, though. His pull-up J off the bounce is much better than people give him credit for, as his ability to get to the basket. Those won’t be his go-to moves in the NBA, of course, but they’re good enough to keep defenders honest so that he can have room to get off his outside shot.
Ellington is also a GREAT rebounding guard. It’s an element of his game that goes almost completely un-mentioned whenever he’s analyzed.

nthegoodlifeParticipantYou believe Ellington is underrated? What do you base that off of? He had a great tourney and moved up nearly 15 spots (depending on which board- some more and some less). I think he got a lot of love for that. Living in ACC country, all I hear about is Ellington and how great of a pro he’ll be. Only time will tell…

JNixonParticipantI really REALLY like Teague’s game and talent, but he the 2nd half fizzle he went through is a result of his lack of strength. These bad stretches in college always happen to players that need to get stronger, and for that I think Ellington will be the safer pick and will probably have the better career,in my opinion. Teague reminds me of Keyon Dooling, except Dooling is a much better natural athlete. Ellington is 2 talented an offensive player to pass up, but just watch. Ellington will be the best player. I dont see Teague getting stronger, his frame is too narrow

Meditated StatesParticipantTeague will be the better overall player. Ellington is a deadly shooter, but teague can shoot as well and do things off the dribble. Give Teague Ellingtons squad so they cant double him he would run wild. He does show inconsistent play though.
