To the people who want Coach K to play Anthony Davis to play, well he wont.  Davis is too young and not physical enough  ( yet) for FIBA. These guys play dirty (chippy) and takes getting used to . They will knee you, grab your balls , trip you ect.  Tyson Chandler , the teams only true center ,wont get much time either, i think he only played 13 minutes,. When these team go to ZONE , he is useless because he has no offense.

If they ride Durant (IMO best player in the world) they should still be able to grab gold.,

Tyson Chandlers affect on the game has nothing to do with his offense, he is out there to block shots and rebound. Chandlers lack of an offensive game really has nothing to do with what defense is being played as he is really only able to score off of dump offs and offensive put backs. The fact that other teams are playing zone will actually increase Chandlers value because it is easier to offensively rebound out of a zone rather than man.

The assistant coach did have some comments in a recent article that suggest Davis is struggling with the "physical" international game.  That is about all I am taking from the original post:

"Finally, there’s Anthony Davis, the kid out of Kentucky. We switched to zone there for a while and he was really good, blocking four shots in the middle (while scoring 11 points) and then getting a couple of dunks at the other end.  He’s going to be a tremendous player; there’s absolutely no doubt about that. But right now he’s having trouble, physically, playing man-to-man against these 250- and 260-pound guys. This international game is so much more physical than college or the NBA. There’s just so much pushing and shoving out there. But we learned that if we want to play zone, Anthony can help us."

    To summarize:

Anthony Davis won’t play for the U.S.

He’s not physical enough to guard the Gasols

He’s sure to choke under duress

Especially when Darko makes a grab at his balls…

I know its at the end of games but Anthony Davis is actually 3rd in scoring per game averaging 10 pts / 11 min. He’s probably just as good if not a better offensive player then Tyson Chandler. It’s pretty clear he doesn’t choke too hard under pressure considering he won an NCAA Championship. No ones saying he should be in for the last 2 min but it’s not unreasonable to say he should get some playing time when Chandler is in foul trouble.

He’s young, it’s obvious he’s not going to be completely ready and I think we all knew he wasn’t strong enough.

I guess a lot of people forgot he’s only 19 years old playing with 28-32 year old guys.  He’s a kid, he’ll be alright.  Especially since most college players use this off-season to bulk up for the NBA, he doesn’t have that chance, he’s competing with Team USA.

As for Team USA, they’re having some trouble defending the pick and roll and they cannot hit a shot from outside (besides Durant).  And of course, the usual issue, too much isolation.

Once again, Coach K is a smart guy, he’s not going to show all of his cards at once.  I wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t play zone against Spain this next game.  Coach K is keeping his cards close to the chest and he’s not going to go all out in these exhibition games.

Carmelo is the biggest problem with team USA. I did not see him pass the ball once in the Argentina game. Everytime he touched the ball he would either shoot it immediately or jab step a couple times and shoot it. I know his game has traditionally been stellar in international competition but he doesn’t appear to fit in with this team. Durant obviously should be starting and I would argue that Igoudala should be ahead of Melo on the depth chart because he can help the team more with his defense and passing abilities. Carmelo can be one of the best scorers in the game when he is on but that is all he brings to the table. It appears to me that he is destined to score a lot of points on a medicore team for the rest of his career.

I saw Melo having trouble when defending Scola… I think Coach K should field Lebron (or somebody else, though there aren’t much options) at the 4.

Yeah, because Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh had nothing to do with the Heat winning a championship…

The notion that a player needs a ring first to be the best player in the league is rediculous.  Lebron’s been the best player since the 08-09 season and you can’t tell me MJ wasn’t the best player before his first ring when he was averaging over 30+ ppg and at the same time being one of the best defensive players.

Thats true. And imo Lebron is the better all around player with or without the ring. K.D. is probably #2 in the world.

That comment about Durant not being the best player in the NBA because he doesn’t have a ring is completely stupid. I guess Robert Horry is better than Michael Jordan because he has 7 rings while mj has 6 right? By the way I don’t know about you guys but KD showed up in every game in the finals which is outstanding for a 23 year old, he averaged 30 ppg on 55% shooting
