Terrence Jones‘ 35 points against Auburn on Tuesday broke the Kentucky freshman single-game scoring record and was just the latest huge game in a season of standout performances for the flashy freshman from Portland, Oreg. Jones added 8 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 blocks against the Tigers. Earlier this season, Jones posted a 16-point, 17-rebound, 4-block performance against Washington in the Maui Classic and a 27-point, 17-rebound, 2-block game against Notre Dame.

The stat-stuffing Jones might have an awkward looking jump shot, and doesn’t move around the court as athletically as some star-caliber players, but there’s no denying his incredible production as a true freshman at Kentucky this season. ESPN’s Chad Ford currently has him rated the No. 5 player on his Top 100, but Jones could rise even further up the draft board given that none of the players ranked ahead of him except Duke’s Kyrie Irving have played up to their potential thus far.

NBADraft.net compares Jones to Lamar Odom and another Pacific Northwest product, Marvin Williams.

Question are peopel getting there comparisions from this site when they said oOdom/Marvin Williams or is this site gettinng it from the posters or they all just see the comparison’s from watching this kid play?..Thats a good shout out by ESPN though

I’m pretty sure everybody that has talked about Jones has seen him play. Kentucky has been on national TV at least 5 times this season.

The Marvin Williams/Lamar Odom comparision has been on this site for as long as Terence Jones’s profile has been on here I believe. Hopefully Jones could be a heavier scorer than either Williams or Odom have been across their careers but if he can have the solid all round game of Williams and be as solid a player and have the longevity of Odom then he’d be a fairly solid draft pick. If his scoring could edge towards 20ppg in the NBA rather than say about 15ppg like Odom has been across his career then Terence Jones will be a very solid pick if he goes into the right situation.

I don’t see him being the sort of guy you could expect to carry a team but he could make a team a lot better, for example if he went to Washington, he’d be a very good running mate for John Wall, putting up useful points, rebounding and helping the team’s all round cause. If for example Cleveland took him thinking he could be a successor to LeBron then that would not be such a good role for him.

Jones reminds me of a mix between Williams and Green. He’s more like Williams though, because he isn’t the passer Green is.

When Jones has a mismatch, he can be electric at the college level. I just don’t see how a 6’7" 240 lbs. small forward finds those kinds of mismatches in the NBA. I think people constantly undervalue the size, athleticism, and skill of Lamar Odom, and I think it is mostly because Odom isn’t a guy who is all about numbers. He is willing to come off the bench. He’ll take whatever role his team needs him to take. It doesn’t make him a lesser player, it makes him a better teammate.

If he can be quick enough to defend NBA 3s, I think that he could be a mismatch on the perimeter.  He is not a great ballhandler, but he has a quick first step and attacks the rim aggressively.  With his strength, I think he should be able to get to the rim in the NBA.  He also could develop a good post game against 3s.  His offensive game is suited to play 3 in the NBA, as long as he continues to improve his perimeter skills.  His problem is that his defensive game is best suited for the power forward position, as he doesn’t have great quickness.

I believe Jones is a legit 6’9"at least he looked it when I saw him play. If he can get his lateral quickness a little better he could play a lot of sf. If not he’s a lot like Jeff Green except he’ll try to play in the post more. One thing that helps him is that he’s very strong and has good rebounding instincts. I think this will help him play pf successfully.

The Correct Answer is Al Harrington.

I quite like the Jeff Green comparision for Terence Jones going forward along with parts of Lamar Odom and Marvin Williams. Overall you get a guy who should be drafted in the top 5 who gives you probably more on court than his pure stats may show. Personally I always saw Al Harrington as more of a scorer than an all round players like the others mentioned.

Lamar Odom is almost a glorified intangibles player like a Shane Battier who fills up the stats column more, people may see him as 3rd/4th option on the Champions but his contribution is huge to the Lakers cause and is the sort of player that his team mates and the coaching staff rate very highly. He is perhaps almost higher rated by the team than by the less die hard fans, he’s the sort of guy that the likes of Kobe would always push for to be extended and stay on the team. After leaving LAC and going to the Lakers from Miami in the Shaq trade, he finally found a role that he suited with the Lakers and has been a key running mate to Kobe and co over the last few years.

I like Al harrington/LO/Marvin Williams comparison best.  The aggressive scoring mentality of Al along with the combo forward type of offensive game, LO’s versatility, not quite the ballhandler or passer probably more like Green in that regard, and the athleticism of Marvin. Could develop into an All-Star or could end upp just another cog the way LO,Marvin, and Green all have due to their chilled approach.

The one thing Terrence Jones has going for him is NCAA production. I agree that he wont be anything special phsyically at the NBA level, however, there are many potential lottery picks that look lost on a college court, let alone an NBA court.

ey… i thought he was right handed, like i said, i really haven’t seen him play a lot. but he does remind me a lot of josh smith. i saw him miss that half court shot vs alabama and realized he is left handed lol
