“Thank You Based God” is a common phrase used in image macros, referring to rap artist Lil B.
Origin
The term “Based God” is a nickname for The Pack member Brandon McCartney, better known as “Lil’ B”. McCartney refers to himself as the “Based God” in several of his songs. The nickname may have come before from The Pack’s debut album, “Based Boys”.
The text “Thank You Based God” appears within an image or gif. of someone crying or seemingly praising God. Other variations include text that is “thanking based God for a &$#%#&@!”, or asking based God for a &$#%#&@!. Lil B has received a lot of attention recently for his vulgar and uncoordinated rapping style (which he has dubbed based). This may contribute to his recent viralitity across the internet. He himself attributes much of his success to the internet, creating over 100 myspaces to help him along, and creating dozens of videos for each of his unorthodox songs. He only seems to becoming increasingly popular, Lil B himself made his way onto MTV recently.
Lil B and Social Media
The reason why “Thank You Based God” has caught on is because of Lil B’s mastery of social media. through twitter and youtube, he keeps in constant touch with his fans. Because of his online activity, he has a growing and incredibly loyal fanbase.
What is “Based”?
In an interview with Complex, Lil’ B was asked what “based” meant.
“Based means being yourself. Not being scared of what people think about you. Not being afraid to do what you wanna do. Being positive. When I was younger, based was a negative term that meant like dopehead, or basehead. People used to make fun of me. They was like, ‘You’re based.’ They’d use it as a negative. And what I did was turn that negative into a positive. I started embracing it like, ‘Yeah, I’m based.’ I made it mine. I embedded it in my head. Based is positive.”

I just listened to the Age of Information all the way through (just listened to a snippet a couple times in the past) and I must say I am quite blown away.
Based God is a legend because he gives us glimpses of his genius and then backs away.
They call this restraint. Very, very powerful stuff.
The man is a true artist and has a level of self-awareness that few people ever realize.

The lyrics and his flow are horrendous...he is funny at times, though.
