i dont like talking about players or teams this early i am not that much of a knicks fan but damn…its been a long time since they have been playing with this much heart and effort. i dont know if its the vets on the roster or mike woodson,…prob both but they are really playing hard and well. they are one of the few teams starting the season by actually playing some defense. also the fact that they have put some discipline on jr smith and he is playing up to the level that he can play this is a scary team and darkhorse in the east…ppl talk about the celtics and heat as well as the sixers (with bynum) and bulls(when rose is back) but this team is ready to play.

if they can stay healthy and continue to get better the playoffs will be more competitive than it has been in a while. also, i think passing is contagious because i have never seen jr smith and melo passing up shots this many times in a game…

oh right, camby hasnt even played yet and wallace seems to be coming back to form…

what are your thoughts about this years knicks and how they will do?

They are the real deal and Stein needs to put them number 1 if you can make it to next week undefeated.
I am surprised and I did not expect this. This win was big also considering Melo only had 9 points.

JR Smith is showing that he is severely underpaid. It is his own fault though but right now he is making himself a ton of money if he can keep it up.

    Jamal Crawford 2.0

JR Smith should be an All-Star if he continues to play like he is doing.

All Star may be a little high but i get your point. JR Smith is playing like I thought he could and should play.

I got clowned and reasonably so for think he would be better when he was still young and immature. He may be still immature to some degree but his game has matured some and if he continue to improve the sky is the limit.

They are the real deal, but most contenders are kind of in cruise control right now. After the all star break most teams tend to turn it on. Knicks have yet to go up against any adversity too, so we shall wait and see what the season has in store for them.

It’s more than just scoring off the bench that JR Smith is providing this season, he runs the PG spot at times for the Knicks and initiate the offense. You can argue that he has been their most valuable player, even though Carmelo carries the scoring load. That’s how well Smith is playing this season.

They’re making 3’s but there will be games when the shots wont fall and lose some games in a row and all of you will hop off the bandwagon

The Knicks have three point shooters though, Most of our offense, JR, Novak, Felton, Kidd, and Carmelo are all capable three point shooters with Novakane and Earl being lights out from deep. They will be hitting their shots more often than not because they have shooters.

Last night, the Knicks showed what they showed against Orlando, and uts been the difference between a decade of futility. When the Knicks have their backs against the wall in the fourth quarter, they finished with a 25 to 6 run, getting out in transition, playing fabulous defense and sharing the ball. This team has chemistry, camaradere, veteran leadership and depth. When Camby and Shumpert return… These team has all the keys you need to compete with anyone.

And I’m cheering for the Knicks like its 1999!

I’m starting to become a believer, Melo didn’t even score double figures today and they went into San Antonio and got a victory. The Spurs are a legit top 3-5 team, and to beat them is huge. Ray Felton is playing like it’s 2010 again, and they’re really clamping down on D. And I know everyone is worried about how Amare is going to fit in but if he can somehow mesh into their offensive groove, than he might just be another additional weapon, but yes, you need to bring him off the bench.

very good point about amare…his style of play may break that flow they are playing with currently…it will be very interesting to see how woodson will put him in…knowing his coaching style being very disciplined he wont care about amare’s ego being damaged if he is to come off the bench.

Magic said it the other night that Amare needs to come off the bench when he gets back.  He will still get 30-35 minutes a night.

Happy for Felton because despite some of the weight issues the guy is really tough and a good leader.  Not a super vocal leader but unselfish and leads by example really well.  And people forget that he is an excellent passer and his assist numbers for his career don’t look as good as they could because he played on crap teams.  The one season or so that he had good players around him he averaged 8-9 assists a night and he will always give you good hard nosed defense.  Knicks are for real it seems!

This team is rolling, and not only are they 6-0 but they have beaten some legit teams this season.

They’ve beaten the Heat, Spurs, Dallas, and Philly twice.

As a matter of fact, without the losses to the Knicks, those teams combined record is 25-12.  That’s not half-bad.

Now, Carmelo, Felton and J.R. Smith’s biggest problem is consistency.  Can the Knicks continue this hot start?

I view the Knicks just like I viewed the Cowboys and Chargers the past few years. They are a team that everybody loves to jump on the bandwagon for when they get hot and are seen as a team with so much potential, and then they always end up disappointing you. Until we are at least 25-30 into the year, I won’t view New York as a threat to Miami or Boston. Depending on when Rose comes back I may have Chicago ahead of them as well.

The spurs game was a real test for the knicks and they didn’t dissapoint on the road with one of the top team teams in the west and in the nba. they’ve been a pleseant surprise this season  i didn’t expect jr playing at this high level , sharing the ball was great and their defense is elite ( the jason kidd effect ) . although i’m a knicks fan and very happy with the team form i wont get too excited so i’ll be disappointed later , the season is very long and they have many challenges to pass ( how to deal with injuries and the amare situation ). They have another test today with memphis another top team in the west lets see what happens.

I love the team and how the roster has been developed for the last 2 years or so. I saw a lot of potential during around the time they got Melo but have been disappointed with their playoff performances.

With Woody settling in, the added veteran experience of Kidd (and to a lesser extent Thomas, Wallace & Camby), the return of Felton etc I am more concerned with how much better they fare in the playoffs. Because they ought to be looking at being a lot better than last year.

English, the Knicks are built pretty nice for the playoffs. I don’t see how Kidd can keep this up all season. He played 34 minutes. He racked up 2 steals and 3 blocks! He shot 4 for 6 from three! He just can’t be this effecient and play this many minutes all season at nearly 40 years old. But in the playoffs, with a day or more off between every game, yeah, I could see him playing 35 quality minutes each game.

I know they are built nice for the playoffs and I’m sure Kidd will be fine regardless, I have no doubt he will step up come end of April.

But how much further do you think the team can go this year? Can they beat a team like Heat or Celtics if they run into them in the 2nd round? That’s how I’ll judge them to be honest cos that’s as far as they’ve been since their main man came to town.

If they keep shooting threes at this rate, then yes they can beat anyone. But these percentages from three seem a little unreal. That can’t keep this up all season. But over a seven game series. I guess they can.

Also, we have to factor in Amare. What if he is a little worse than last year (just cause he is one year older) and yet still gets 30 minutes a night? I don’t think that helps you against the Heat.

If possible the knicks need to trade Amare, they will not get close to equal value, but if they can atleast get a bench player and a 1st round pick I think they would have done a good job. Carmelo is thriving in that Power Forward role and we saw he do the same last year. The addition of Jason Kidd has been great and J.R is playing the best ball of his career. Amare will not be satisfied coming off the bench and taking a lesser role. Rather than disturb the chemistry and have internal problems, they should trade him.

too bad no one is willing to take on his big contract…hes also 30 now and doesnt have the same jump to his game or quickness. i cant imagine any team wanting to take on a contract like that. hopefully he just comes to realize that winning is more important than being "the man"…certainly melo and jr have come to realize this now.

The team has veterans but with a deep roster, Coach Woodson can rotate the guys, let people sit out games. E.g one of  Thomas, Camby, Sheed maybe even STAT and Chandler. Most people have the Knicks as a solid play off team maybe in 5th to 7th seed range, but now they look a bit better than that, I’m not saying they are the best team out East, that is still Miami in my eyes but they have to be considered contenders. E.g the ability to have a play off run rather than making up the numbers.

If they get to post season in a good position with all the roster fit, then they will be an awkward match up given their mix of match winners, shooters, experience and Championship winners.

I think Amare will fine for now but I think if there is any drop to the team overall, he will be moved now or when he is an expiring contract. Also anyone can be traded but Knicks will have to settle for less talent and average draft picks coming back.

JR Smith is now doing what many of his former coaches had been begging him to do..And thats put the ball on the floor and drive toward the basket more….That was that the main reason why he could’nt stick around with the same team very long……Up until this season,he only did things that made the highlights on Sports Center..That was dunking & shooting 3s…….

Knicks have been playing great…But their winning steak will come to an END tonite when Memphis put the SMACK DOWN on they A$$!!!

Rudeboy is right, their streak comes to an end with Memphis, Melo Vs Z-Bo? Z-Bo will keep him out the boards, this Time Candler will have his hands full with Little Bro Gasol! Hahaha, Memphis is a better team plating at home, however it’s good to see this Knicks kicking some A$$ to good teams early in the Season, just make you watch their games!

JR Smith should be an All-Star if he continues to play like he is doing. —————————————————————————————————————–

Him and Jamal Crawford at least have to be the front runners for 6th man of the year
