is timberwolves a couple pieces away from a playoff team? and a few more away from a competitive team in the west?

i know the season is still young, but it seems like these young wolves players are coming together nicely. i know they are only 2-4, but all 6 games were against teams that many ppl believe to be playoff-bound: OKC, MIL, MIA, DAL, SA, and MEM.

they lost to OKC by 4, MIL by 3, MIA by 2, and won against DAL and SA. Tonight, they lost against Mem. i know MEM is without randolph, but Minn looks like they just lack the fundamental: they missed FTs and commited too many TOs…

i believe if wolves may acquire a good defensove big man to go with Kevin Love on the inside, and everyone continues to develop, this team might be a playoff team come next season.

The Wolves r one of my fav young teams. From what ive seen with a strong shot blocking center and further development of rubio….they have defenitely a chance in a very talented west in a few years. wolves done a very good job with their rebuild!

I think it’s less of the idea of adding pieces, but more of just gaining experience.  Give them one more year with these players, I’m thinking playoffs.  They could very well be close this year once the team is given over to Rubio.  He reads the floor so well, esp. considering he hasn’t had much time with this squad at all.  They still could use a true starting SG (idk if that will ever be Wes).  But Love and Rubio are for real, as well as Derrick Williams IMO.  They should look to move Beasley and/or Randolph while they are still under contract.

But again all this team needs is experience IMO.  They have the coach and talent, just give them time to bond and fully develop as a team.

We are 2-4 right now, but our next 3 games are against the cavs, toronto, and washington. We could get to 5-4. We could definetly be a playoff team soon. We need a SG who can create his own shot.

OJ Mayo comes to mind because right now he is on Memphis Bench but could give Timberwolves the scoring they need.  Wes Johnson is a small forward to me.  Beasley is playing well but Derrick Williams needs minutes.  Beasley and a 2nd should be moved for Mayo.

Honestly if we cut down on our turnovers and gel throughout the season. I could see us competeting for the playoffs. Not saying we will make the playoffs, but i could see us fighting for and staying in the running for a 7th or 8th until the very end.

They will definitely benefit at the end of the season when they don’t lose their legs and teams like LA and San Antonio do.

Once Rubio gets put in the starting lineup that should help to. We usually start out games slow and then go on a run once Rubio enters the game.

They need to toss Beasley and find another scorer that isn’t a black hole. BTPH was right…again.

I still think if the Wolves got Emeka Okafor (Tyson Chandler would be ideal but they won’t be able to pry him away from the Knicks), they’d be able to be competitive and make that leap to the playoffs. If not this year, then for sure by next year. Remember Emeka played with one of the game’s best PG’s in CP3 so he knows when he should be expecting passes and lobs..

I don’t see any reason why the Wolves will aquire a good fit for the team. It’s taken them about 5 years of multiple top 5 and top 10 picks to be even showing some flash…. The GM is too obsessed with small forwards, point guards and Darko. They will not contend. They do have some talented players though, but that should be expected if you’ve had dozens of top 5 picks.
