i really like your comparison, i think its spot on. i could not think of one. but i agree he has a massive ceiling and he just needs to find the right team. he can help so many teams with his defensive abilities athletic ability and versatility to play both forward positions.
I don't see why he can't just be a PF. He's strong enough and isn't afraid to mix it up in the paint. He's got great length and shot-blocking instincts. He doesn't have much of an identity on offense either, but I think his skillset and physical attributes play better vs PFs. Maybe he can be a Shawn Marion type on offense with straight line drives, o-boards, occasional deep 3, cutting off the ball and face ups.
I hope he doesn't become another Derrick Williams. He's a strong, physical jumping jack. He should be fine in the paint.
Yeah I don't know about that. I'd still want someone with his physicality, rebounding and shotblocking ability as close to the paint as possible. Nothing about his game currently says that he's a SF outside of shooting the 3 at a high percentage on low volume, which sounds a lot like Derrick Williams. He doesn't have the handle. He doesn't have the ability to create his own shot on the perimeter. He hardly has any experience guarding the perimeter. His physical atributes say that he's at best guarding and going at bigger players on offense.
IMO, he should perfect and build on what he's good at right now and not try to be something that he's not, otherwise he could end up like Derrick Williams....or look like T-Rob has early on.
everthing you said about him guarding the power forward is true, but he has the quickness and the lenth to guard the small forward as well, plus combined with his freakish athletic abilities. i think he is little quicker than d-williams.
i really love tony mitchell as a player. he is a sick defender for a wing, he is big, strong, and a sick athlete. his motor is always running hot and i think he could defend inside and out in the nba very well. he needs to develope his offence some more, but i think if he goes to the right team he will have enough time to do that or he will play with someone who can help him develope the offence faster. but i really beleive the tools are there for him to be a great all around player in the nba. thoughts?
