jhbm24ParticipantWill he be able to transition to the PG in the NBA?
I think he has all the tools to be a good PG in the league with good size and passing skills. A team like the jazz would be a great situation for him, imo, so he can get a lot of pt.
what are your guys oppinion on him and where do you think he’ll go in the draft?

jhbm24Participanti think the team is gna have to change its pace for the future.
Wroten
burks
hayward
favors
kanter
i think this team will able to play on the break and half court

Lotto StudParticipantWhy the Jazz? They are slow paced, Wroten excels during transitional situations more then he does in the halfcourt. He see’s the floor better during the break.

jhbm24Participantthe jazz dont want darren collison. i dont think hes better than what wroten will be. or even marshall atthat.

The Scare Crow RisesParticipantDrafting Wroten or Marshall seems fine but they’d be better if they jump started the Rebuild and traded for a Pass First PG like Darren Collison
Tony Wroten doesn’t fit in with The old Jazz system, but this is Tyrone Corbin’s team now and he could like a flashier guy like Wroten over a slow but steady Pg like Marshall
I’d like to see what The Pacers think about Collison, is he their Pg for the future?
Would or Could the Jazz trade their draft pick for Darren Collison?
0 - Posted on: Sun, 04/15/2012 - 11:58am #659695
SwatLakeCityParticipantPossibly, but I think his skill set is more for a SG but not a PG. He’s more like Tyreke Evans or like Andre Igoudala, he may clash with Burks, just like Turner clashes with Iggy in Philly. I don’t think that would be good for the Jazz.
However, I do think he would fit in well with the Nets. If the Nets lose Dwill during the offseason (which is very likely) they are going to need someone to fill his shoes and hopefully entice Brooklyn to start (or continue) rooting for them despite Dwill not being there. Wroten with his great passing ability can do that. Even if Dwill stays, Wroten will still get a lot of playing time at the 2 and Brooks can move to the 3, while Morrow comes off the bench. One thing is for sure he would get a lot more playing time with the Nets than he would with the Jazz.

jhbm24Participantsee, i dont think the nets would be a good fit, especially if deron stays. i think they are set at the 3 with wallace and green. brooks is stricktly a 2 imo. but i can see what youre saying if deron leaves, then wroten marshon and wallace would be a pretty solid backcourt.

The Scare Crow RisesParticipantBut why not trade for a Proven player?
I only brought up Darren Collison because I think he can play very good defense, hit open jump shots and effectively pass the ball in an Up Tempo or Hald Court system
And he won’t take 2 to 3 years to become a fulltime player, he’d come in and probally start over Harris, allowing him to become the 6th man
Collison and Burks looks like a nice backcourt defensively, Harris would be an Ideal combo guard off the bench
Was just thinking aloud is all…

jhbm24Participanthes 6” and not exact;y the best assist guy. and the jazz need someone whos gna get you at least 7 assists. and hes on a team that has a bunch of weapons and shooters everywhere so i dont see his assists going up any.

jhbm24Participantim talkin about future, devin harris isnt the PG of their future.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 04/15/2012 - 12:12pm #659702
OhCanada-ParticipantIn my opinion you cant demote Harris to a bench player after he has spent most of his career as a starter. That has morale issues written all over it. I would try trading him first.

bloodshyParticipantAs much as I’m intrigued by Wroten, Marshall, etc., I think the Jazz should hit the FA market and go hard after Dragic. Per ESPN, "As a starter over 17 games, Dragic has averaged 18.2 points and 8.7 assists per game, while shooting 51.9 percent from the field and 44.2 percent from 3-point range. During that stretch, as the sixth-seeded Rockets have gone 11-6…" And he’d have substantially better targets to work with in Utah than he has in Houston. I’ve watched him play in Phoenix for years, and he’s the real deal. The Jazz should offer him $30-40M over 5 years, with max money paid out in years 1 and 2. Because the Jazz have a $10M trade exception and so many youngsters, they can afford to pay big $ for two years. Then, as they need to resign their young players, Sap and Jefferson (starting in 2 years), they will have plenty of money available since Dragic will only be pulling $4-6M/year in years 3-5.
I’d be fine w/the Jazz also picking Marshall or Wroten or whoever as the backup, since I think they’re high potential players w/value in the range of the Jazz picks. But this Jazz team is ready to win now. They just need some help at the point and another wing shooter. Dragic could push the Jazz to contender status. No rookie pg in this class would likely have the impact Dragic could.

benny15Participantpersonally, i’d like to see wroten in a magic uniform. think he can do well playing back-up minutes in their system. heres a guy who likes to have the ball in his hands and slash to the basket, but when he can, he will pass the ball to shooters. The magic are loaded with catch and shoot players who can play well off someones dribble penetration like that. he also proves as a potential star level player for the magic if they do loose howard through trade or free agency by the end of next season.

SwatLakeCityParticipant@jbhm24: If Dwill leaves, I think Wallace is next in line. The reason why I say this is two fold, one: Wallace is not someone a team should build around yet the Nets will be forced too if Dwill leaves. two: if Dwill leaves the Nets will still be loosing a lot of games. Wallace has had to deal with losing for most of his career, with Charlotte, then got to taste the smell of winning with Portland for a little bit, now do you really think he is going to like losing again? Don’t think so. If Dwill does leave, Wallace will want to leave as well. Dwill is the key to Jersey winning. And the key to keeping Dwill is getting Dwight Howard. Slim chance of that happening, so once the dominoe of Dwill leaves, the other dominoes will fall, which means Wallace might leave Jersey too. So Brooks might still be called upon to play a little 3 next year as well.

jmarg25ParticipantWell if you have Wroten, Burks, Hayward, Favors, and Kanter as your starting lineup, you wont win many games with a starting 5 of young guys still developing. I think they should keep Jefferson and try to get a veteran point guard for Kanter and maybe their 1st round pick this year.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 04/15/2012 - 1:24pm #659744
PulseGlazerParticipantThe "needs veterans" doesn’t really work. They have several vets and OKC didn’t exactly struggle to start winning because they weren’t full of older guys. I really like the Dragic idea, but am not familiar with the Jazz’ cap situation. Perhaps a sign and trade of Jefferson for Dragic?
0 - Posted on: Sun, 04/15/2012 - 1:41pm #659758
i’m jus so offendedParticipantThe blazers should keep him close to home and comfortable, that would be the good move. I think he will thrive in the league. In college, the paint is clogged and in the NBA, he will have more room to work with and can find people, is physical, big and can get by anybody. If he falls out of the top 10, i think he is an absolute steal.

Future_Scouti think it would be nice if utah maybe portland can pair him up with terrence ross in the backcourt, if they both do good in the combine.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 04/15/2012 - 2:33pm #659783
PabloFiascoParticipantAs much as I like Tony Wroten I fear he’ll end up becoming another Rodney Stuckey. I don’t think the Jazz are a good fit for him. Marshall would thrive there.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 04/15/2012 - 2:39pm #659785
bloodshyParticipantThe Jazz have a very good cap situation right now–about $10M under. They also have a $10M trade exception and could cut Harris for $9M more. That gives them $29M in spending power for 2012-13 season above their current roster. The next year they won’t have the trade exception, but Harris will be off the books, so they’ll have at least $19M in spending power above their current roster. After that things get tricky. Jefferson, Milsap, Favors and Hayward will all be free agents in 2015 (Hayward/Favors restricted). Al will probably have a reduction in pay and Sap will probably have an increase (both by around $3M balancing it out). Hayward and Favors will both get a raise.
Bringing in Dragic in a well compensating (but front-end) long-term deal would make a ton of sense for the Jazz.

jazzfan1ParticipantBut will the Blazers make him a crazy offer? I can see the Jazz making a very good offer for Dragic, probably near the Blazers but not quite there. If I was Dragic, I’d want to play for a young and upcoming team like the Jazz. Perfect situation. Stability, playoff bound next year, nothing but blue skies for the Jazz.
And yes, I can see the Jazz drafting Wroten. I’m with the crowd thinking he’s gonna be a much better player in the NBA, with the more open court and his physical advantages. Sure needs to learn how to shoot, though.
Hello, Jeff Hornacek.

jazzfan1ParticipantDon’t know what it is with Marshall and the Jazz. I’m not sold on the kid, there are questions if he’s an NBA athlete at all. I’m sure the Jazz will bring him in and look at him, if they feel he can play decent defense and shoot a lick they might take a chance on him, but I like the chances of Lillard and Wroten better.
Could be completely wrong about Marshall. Hope so for his sake.

Pro 1ParticipantI can see Wroten Jr (6’5 w/o shoes, 6’6.5 w/ shoes) in Portland, New Orleans or Utah as all 3 teams currently have 2 Lottery picks and can select with their second Lotto pick in they choose to and groom him.
If NO can somehow draft both ADavis & Wroten Jr- watch out!!
Raptors would be a good fit as well.
Idealy it might be better for Wroten Jr to slip a bit and got to a better more structured playoff team or have a playoff team like San Antonio trade up for him.
If TWJr drops out of the Lottery he will be the steal of this draft.
The pre draft combine & workouts should let us get a better feel of who might go where.
He can be a NBA pg and a very good one if he’s cultivated right as he is a gym rat.

PulseGlazerParticipantI like the Wroten in NO idea. The Hornets are very good with young talent and Monty’s an excellent coach.
And yes, Utah should totally go after Dragic.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 04/15/2012 - 7:02pm #659871
jhbm24Participantthat is a good idea, but you never know whos gna overpay him "im not that high on him making the jazz contenders or anyone at that" but he would fit the system well as he likes the faster pace but can run a team especially learning from steve nash for a couple years. but if the jazz can get him with their secoond first round pick or maybe even trade down for him if no one really seems like they will take him, save some money and get him still.
