This trade would send both Pau and Dwight to the Hawks for Josh Smith, Horford and Devin Harris.
I think this helps both teams because Dwight could go back home and resign with ATL over the summer. They have a lot of cap room after trading Joe Johnson so they could try to bring in another FA like Chris Paul or a scoring 2 guard like Mayo or JR Smith who will most likely both be declining their player options this summer. Pau is just a throw in to make salaries match but he still has value and could be good trade bait himself. This could even be worked in a 3 way deal somehow so they don’t even have to take on Paus salary for next year.
The Lakers would instantly get more athletic with the versatile Smith who they would have to resign this summer. Add one of the more underrated big guys in Al Horford who is under contract for 4 years currently. Devin Harris could be a good 6th man and eventually take over the starting job after Nash retires. I am not saying this is a great deal for the Lakers but it sure beats losing Dwight to free agency.

Sewok15ParticipantI know any trade proposal gets negged beyond belief but I am not here for the points…unless there is some kind of reward associated with them that I don’t know about?

Mr. 19134ParticipantI cant get over Pau being just a throw in.

Sewok15ParticipantThrow in was a bad choice of words. He is a bench player now so I think my mind automatically devalued him. What I meant is Pau makes the trade more even. I think a trade that gets you Smith, Hordford and Harris is a lot to gain for an ailing Howard on a half season rental.

sheepish_moParticipantBut Pau and Dwight don’t work together in L.A what makes you think they’ll work together in another city??

Sewok15ParticipantThat is why I used the term throw in for Pau although it wasn’t exactly what I meant. I am thinking it would make more sense as a 3 team deal since Pau does still have value and quite a few teams seem to be interested in him…I actually do think Pau and Dwight could work well together because if you watch the Lakers half court offense is pretty decent. Pau hitting mid range jumpers and working the high/low game with Howard could actually be deadly if D’Antoni had any idea how to utilize his players strengths. Pau is a very good passer for a big guy much like his brother but he doesn’t really get the chance to show it since they have ball dominant players like Nash and Kobe surrounding him.
