As a Raptors fan I hate this signing. Hansborough has to be one of my most hated players in the league. I even remember Jack Armstrong saying how this guy was a "hack" on live tv when he threw JV to the ground fighting for a rebound.
I hate his face too, but I think you'll like him more when he's on your team. He's rugged, physical, irritating, he'll stick the mid-range J and he'll draw fouls. They need some physicality in that frontcourt and he fits the bill.
Even if he contributes and earns some wins its gonna be so hard to cheer forthis guy. Cheering for primo pasta was easier than it will be for psycho T
That's fair, you don't have to like him, but unlike Bargs, you won't have to worry about Tyler dogging it and playing soft.
I hope Miles Plumlee is ready... He'll get those minutes.
Story time is going to be so hype
a corn fell
I would imagine he meant to call him a hacker...not a hack. I don't see how Jack Armstrong whose best moment in basketball was leading Niagara to a 23 win season could consider a 4 time All American and ACC all time leading scorer a "hack".
He can still play as well so although it doesn't always look pretty I would be excited to have him on my team.
I'll never forget how pissed I was on draft night when Larry Bird picked Tyler Hansbrough when Jrue Holiday and Ty Lawson were on the board. Imagine one of those two starting at point guard instead of George Hill.
I thought he was a solid player for the Pacers though... I think he stopped improving. Don't ever expect him to pass the ball.
He called psycho t a hack after he went out of his way to grab and twist big Val's hand after he came back from a hand injury (first game back I think and it was in a brace). I'm surprised the Raps picked him up after that too. It was a dirty play against the raptors best young player. I dunno how I feel about him. I like hustle players that are gritty but I just have a hard time liking him.
There are very few players I can not root for and he is one of them. I love hard physical play as much as everyone else and even play like that myself, but I always feel like Hansbourgh takes it to far. I classify myself as a raptors fan but I think I\m going to have a hard time watching any games while he is on the team.
I just want to know if the Raptors are actually going to tank or if they're trying to compete this year. We aren't good enough to contend for anything so I hope that's not the plan.
He gets into it with everybody but that's a good thing when he is on your team. I personally refuse to hate any player that goes hard, even if I really want to. KG, Westbrook, D Rose and even Psycho T. He has been on my All Go Hard Second Team for like 5 seasons. I have showed players his highlights from UNC were he would "post, post and re-post" relentlessly in the same possessions. The Heat and their always front the post scheme is the only thing that neutralizes his unique abilities but most teams will let him get touches down there. In 16 to 22 minutes a game he is a steal at the right price. Before the Jefferson signing I thought Charlotte would be a perfect fit for the MLE. He would be a fan favorite automatically and provide a grinder inside.
I had to ask myself, what does it say about me that I hate a guy that actually gives his all? He is one of the few guys in the League that gets on a plane after a game and can say honestly "I could not have played harder, maybe smarter or somehow with more skill but not harder".
I must confess that even though Battier fits the most of those same very tangible intangibles as a guy that tries way to hard, I still can't like him. I have grown to respect him but I still don't like him, so I get it.
I really dislike the aspect of our culture that hates the idea of trying hard. Like somehow trying hard is a bad thing. Even great players like Lebron, I hated when he was the taking pictures with his hands and throwing 3's and air guitar playing. When he developed that killer instinct, bulls eye stare, I became a fan. Why in the h3ll should anybody get paid millions to play a game so many people love if its all just smiles and giggles.
If basketball (NBA) is not hard and exhausting then you not doing right.
Jo Val and Hansbrough on the same team means there is going to be a potential hard pick on the court at all times. Even off the ball with slashers like Derozan and Ross expect some bone shattering blind back door picks.
I respect hard play, believe me. Everybody has those few players that they cant stand, that is in every sport. Like I've said before in prior posts about Hansbrough, I just feel that he takes the physical play to an extreme. When he is on the court i feel that any guard has a chance to be seriously injured going down the lane and always the Andrew Bynum play on Barea comes to mind (by the way no fan of Barea either he and Hansbrough are the only players I can't root for) and I just can not justify for any play or player that has been part of plays like that. Hansbrough is always teetering on that edge and thats why I cant root for him. Also Toronto has a hard time getting free agents to come to the city and I hope when we have the chance to bring in anyone who is willing to come to Toronto that the dislike around the league for Hansbrough isn't a problem.
So much for tanking. Have fun in Philly, Andrew Wiggins.
Toronto was still too good to be able to tank for Wiggins, they didn't have a shot before hand.
Great pick up. Psycho T is a relentless player who can get buckets downlow. If his midrange jumper is going he can be a real threat. He also adds a tough element management hasnt brought to the team in years past. I guess Ujiri wants to win this year cant wait to see his next move.
He could even play for the Leafs if he doesn't get court time. Apart from the skating, i think he'd do well!
Lol....I hated Hansbrough at UNC but I always thought he was a solid player who'll do some dirty work to help his team win. The guys tough I'd want him in my rotation
The Pacers key in beating the Heat was their size. Losing their best big off the bench (which was already thin to begin with) is a huge blow.
Bigger than people are talking about.
Miles Plumlee has way more size and length than Tyler Hansbrough.
I don't think losing Hansbrough is that big of a blow. He gave the Pacers very little vs the Heat in the ECF's.
Personally I love Hansbrough, he reminds me of a younger Nick Collison. I really don't think all the hate towards him is warranted, he's a very hard worker, doesn't back down to anyone of any size. He can give you a handful of double-doubles in limited minutes. He can be a bit inconsistent at times, having a great game followed by a terrible one, but he's one of the best big men off the bench in my opinion.
very agree with TheArtist ... Why everybody hate players like battier psycho T, Noah, KG, Evans ... ?
I can understand you don't like them but you have to respect them, the way they are giving everything on the court just to win. They are REAL BALLERS. More than talented divas.
When PO arrives... they are the players who make you win.
He's probably one of the stronger players in the league. I once watched Al Horford lower his shoulder in to Hansbrough in a one on one post up situation. Hansbrough literally took the impact and didn't move an inch. It completely threw off his post up and he launched a bad shot. Big, strong, enforcer types are always good when they're on your team. If Tyler could curb his chucking he'd be absolutely ideal in that role, but as he is now, he's still good.
Raptors needed a toughness and physicality which Hansbrough provides in abundance. The next course of action for the Raptors would be to target a back-up point guard, Beno Udrih would be a solid addition.
TO fans will recognize and appreciated a hockey style goon when he is on their team.
Part of me loves this kid. Part of me thinks he is a complete hack as Jack called him.
On your team you will only see the upside. One more reason for other teams to hate playing Toronto.
Hansbrough / Acey / Amir / Gray makes for a lot of bruises the next day. Will take some of the physical preasure off of JV. They will look out for their young star.
Bargnani is going to get punished first game at the Air Canada Centre.
Tyler Hansbrough has always been one of my favorite players. I think he's better as a starter than coming off the bench for just a few minutes at a time as he did with Indiana. Why? Because over the course of a game, he wears down his defender and eventually gets him into foul trouble. TH really doesn't have that opportunity when playing only a 4-6 minutes stretch.
You know exactly what you're getting with Hansbrough. He will never be an All Star but he's definitely the kind of hard working, reliable guy I want on my team. If he starts for Toronto and plays 28-30 minutes, expect him to get around 15 ppg and about 7 rpg. No they aren't star numbers but that's not too shabby for a Power Forward.
And you'll never have a problem with his effort and/or fitting in with his teammates.
I wonder what this move dose for Quincy Acy? Both play the same kind of basketball except Hansbrough is just a unlikable basketball player!! I hope the Raptors keep Acy on the team!
