This sucks for UCF since they were a bubble team coming in to the season and now cannot even play in any postseason tournament, if I interpreted the article correctly. Also, their two best players, as mentionned in the article, could transfer and play immediately. Written by Andy Katz of ESPN.

Central Florida received a one-year bowl ban and a one-year men’s basketball tournament ban from the NCAA due to recruiting violations in the two high-major programs, a source told ESPN.com Tuesday morning.

The NCAA committee on infractions had called an 11 a.m. news conference to announce the findings.

A Conference USA official told ESPN.com Monday that the Knights would be prohibited from playing in the Conference USA tournament in Tulsa if they had received a postseason ban. That means the Knights have played their last postseason tournament as a member of C-USA since they are leaving for the Big East in 2013-14.

Central Florida finished 22-11 last season, 10-6 in C-USA in men’s basketball and lost to Drexel in the NIT first round. The one-year ban could allow leading scorer Keith Clanton to leave immediately under NCAA rules. Clanton, who averaged 14.5 points a game, could leave and play immediately if the postseason ban is equal to his remaining eligibility. This would also mean that the team’s second-leading scorer, senior Marcus Jordan (13.7 ppg), could leave and play somewhere else immediately, too.

Central Florida’s football team finished 5-7 overall, 3-5 in C-USA last season. The Knights’ season will end Saturday, Nov. 24 against UAB. The Knights were a projected football favorite to win the C-USA East Division but now aren’t eligible for the C-USA championship game.

Central Florida went in front of the NCAA’s Committee on Infractions in April in Indianapolis for allegations that the school was involved with runners for sports agents and cash payments as well as gifts to recruits.

Central Florida also received a lack of institutional control charge.

    Other penalties are:

•One finding of unethical conduct for former assistant football coach David Kelly.

•One finding of failure to monitor compliance for men’s basketball coach Donnie Jones.

    •Five-years’ probation for the school.

•Limit on scholarships in football and basketball for two seasons that were already self-imposed.

•Financial penalty of $50,000 for the school.

•Vacation of men’s basketball victories from 2008-2011, which was already self-imposed.

•Acceptance of Jones’ three-game suspension last season to open C-USA.

•Reduction in football coaches who can recruit off campus from seven to five and for men’s basketball at any one time from three to two.

•Jones and assistant Darren Tillis will not be able to recruit on the road in July 2013.

•Three-year show cause for Jones but with specifics that he has to attend a regional rules seminar in 2013 and ’14. Any school that hires Jones in the next three years has to find out if he has done these things before hiring him (although there is no indication that Jones’ job is in jeopardy).

•Former athletic director Keith Tribble received a three-year show cause penalty and cannot contact by phone or in person any prospective recruiting. Tribble resigned in November as AD.

•One-year show cause for Kelly, who is not employed by a school at this time.

•No sanctions were levied against football coach George O’Leary.

The initial report from the NCAA alleged that runner Ken Caldwell and Brandon Bender tried to help get players to UCF, including six men’s basketball and five football prospects. The allegations included Tribble’s involvement of trying to land jobs for recruits

Do you think Marcus Jordan and Keith Clanton will leave the program?

UNC could use a guy like Clanton next to McAdoo for a year to help the front court.

I think they both could play high major so they probably should move up. I know Providence, Temple, UVA, Ohio St, and NCST among others, are after this kid named Jake Obrein from BU and not only did Clanton play at a higher level, but he performed better and has a similar game and skill set. Clanton could hear interest from EVERY team with an opening.

Jordan could definitely hear from teams who are rebuilding and need a little scoring from the guard spot like a Seton Hall, Virginia Tech or Northwestern. He is also a good assett and should be hearing from many schools as well.
