i may be a little late on this post, but i was in vegas for march madness and missed the weekend’s forums.  after watching creighton vs. ul-lafeyette, 2 players from the ull team really caught my eye.

the obvious is elfrid payton.  pg with great size and appeared to have the potential of being a great defender with his length.  also, came up with some big rebounds and assists.  jump shot looks inconsistent however.  i think he jumped up 10+ spots after the weekend on this site.  kind of has some rajon rondo to his game.

the other guy is shawn long.  6-9, 245 lbs.  average 18+ ppg and 10+ rpg and shot 42% from 3s.  he’s only a sophomore but i imagine with those numbers, there’s not much more to prove at the college level.  really stepped up on the big stage against creighton with 15 pts and 7 boards but hit some clutch 3s to keep them in for a while.

any thoughts on payton and long?  anyone got payton getting all the way into the lottery?  any thoughts on long?

I came away reay impressed with Long even though he got in foul trouble. Huge body, but great shooting stroke and athleticism. Maybe it was the lack of size on the floor but he looked bigger than 6’9". Payton is real nice, great handles and plays pretty stellar D. My problems with him were his shooting and lapses on D. Creighton sagged off him hard and it clogged up the paint real bad. He wasn’t even taking open jumpers from the free throw line. On D, McBuckets slipped by him multiple times on back cuts and fakes but the fact he could he even be matched up against Doug is impressive
