As a UNC fan this has to be one of the mos stressful games to watch, we played great the first half but now it appears the whole team has butterfingers and can't hold onto the ball in the second half. Throw in the fact McDonald,Strickland, Mcadoo, and Johnson are airballing EVERY damn shot, it has me pulling my hair out over here. Anybody else watching this ugly game?
Yeah my friend is a big UNC fan, and absolutely hates James McAdoo. Doesn't sound to good for someone who had a chance of going top 5 in this years draft.
I wouldn't touch James in the top 15, guy has zero skills and looks like a rotation big man that will only get buckets off pick and rolls and cleaning the glass
Yes they had a stretch where they were panicking and just forced up shots but this is finally some passion from this team. Finally Roy put Hairston in the starting lineup. What lost them this game is the horrible free throw shooting. Missed 8 free throws in the 2nd half, you gotta make free throws if your gonna win a close game and duke made theirs while UNC didnt.
Roy Williams didnt call one play for JMac in the 2nd half with plumlee guarding him. Plumlee basically was giving him layups, so he wouldn't pick up that 4th foul...Yes JMac isn't anything close to lottery pick.
Sorry I needed a place to put this. The hottest mom in sports.
That was the highlight of the game.
Can't blame for Roy for this one. The guys just gave the game away in the second half. Reggie and PJ missing key free throws down the stretch. When Plumlee was in foul trouble it was a combination of the guards not getting McAdoo the ball because he was open for a few easy slams and layups but never received the ball. And when he did get the ball he was taking jump shots instead of attacking Plumlee.
The focus in the first half wasn't there in the second half. It been the same thing all year one good half, and one terrible half. If we ever put together a whole game against good competition we may just win. Roy has not done a spectacular job coaching this year to me, but this game wasn't his fought. He made the necessary change in starting PJ to match up with Duke small lineup, he actually made smart substitutions throughout the game for the most part. I hate to say it but It just cames down to the fact this team doesn't have heart and can't handle it when a team makes a run on them. Simple as that.
Thought Roy did a good job coaching this game (although he got lucky that the Joel James injury forced him to go to the small ball lineup he should have been using all year long)
But it really just came down to free throws. Duke played like sh!t except for probably 5 minutes of that game. Only difference was that Duke made their free throws and UNC didn't.
Roy couldve call a couple of ISO plays for MacAdoo, Plumlee was inviting players to take wide open layups during his three foul stretch
James McAdoo SUCK
Roy......hasnt been developing guys much here. Has 5 MCD'ers on this roster, Mcadont was suppossed to be a stud, last years team and all the studs. More of his system and not making it work for the talent he has.
I'm a huge Unc fan and stick with them through the good and bad times (actually made myself watch both Butler and Miami beatdowns this year) but I've noticed a few things with this team that makes me want to smash my TV everytime i watch them.
1. Low basketball IQ as a whole.
When you have people like Dexter Strickland, who is sucking worse than anybody this year, jackin 3s...hell mid-range shots, we are going to have problems. He is not a shooter and never will be. This is when Roy as the coach should sit him down and let him know his strength is penetrating not shooting. Layups only for you D-Strick.
Mcadoo also falls under this category of low basketball IQ. He should be attacking to rim and getting as close to the basketball as possible. Sure, he will occasionally hit the mid-range 12-15 footer, but I'd take him scoring on the block anyday. Macdoo is probably the biggest bust of a recruit that I've ever seen at UNC. At this point I'd say stay all 4 years kid because your skill level is no where near ready for the NBA.
2. They don't have a true point guard. Yeah, Marcus Paige was the top ranked PG coming out of high school and has shown flashes a few times of what he could be, but I definitely can tell that he is a shoot first PG and doesn't see the floor well at all. This is why Kendall Marshall leaving early for the draft might of been the biggest blow out of all 4 starters that got drafted last year. Paige has basically been thrown in the fire and doesn't have a veteran there to teach and guide him along the way...but with that being said Ray Felton and Ty Lawson were in the same situations and did great. With Dex being the backup PG UNC just doesn't have any decent options this year to run there offense sucessfully.
3. Pride and Leadership. They have 0 this year, enough said.
4. Lastly, Roy hasn't really developed anybody this year and his coaching has been sub par at best. The last time I remember UNC being this bad was when Larry Drew was in the house trashing it up...God I couldn't stand him...but for UNC to be sucessful I think Roy needs to go back to the basics with this team and stop trying to run his system when it is clearly not working.
*close to the basket as possible
I'm not sure getting as close to the basket is the remedy for McAdoo's game. Not only does he struggle overall to finish around the basket but he's liable to be turned back in excruciatingly embarrassing fashion on any drive. He's been resoundingly stuffed or swallowed up more than anyone I can remember.
I don't think shot selection is the problem with him. He doesn't take too many long jumpers and ones he takes aren't eve all that long. He just has terrible touch in the 5-8 foot area in the paint.
