NbanflguyParticipantThis will be the thread to post your upsets or seek help on picking upsets. Remember when seeking help, dont be afraid to just go with your gut if people disagree with you. Last year I went with Ohio over Michigan even though many didnt agree with me here.
So far I have Minnesota as an 11 seed over UCLA. Hopefully the good Minnesota team shows up

Malik-UniversalParticipantI really like Minnesota on paper… but even im still puzzled how they flopped in the big ten season
0- Posted on: Sun, 03/17/2013 - 1:00pm #755580
NbanflguyParticipantNo one knows. Minnesota is just a bipolar team. Can be amazing or terrible.
They match up really well against UCLA though. UCLA is horrible at defensive rebounding and Minnesota is the best offensive rebounding team in nation. Minnesota is more athletic to0

Malik-UniversalParticipantim just confused how UCLA is a six seed and Oregon is a twelve seed and UCLA didn’t even win the conf. tournament.. but yeah im expecting an early exist for UCLA whether against Minnesota or in the 3rd round

Dale WorthingtonParticipantThe funny thing is that Minnesota (11) is a BETTER team than UCLA (6).
All the recent losses are a bit of a concern but the Big Ten is an absolute GAUNTLET!
I like 15-seeded Florida Gulf Coast to beat 2-seeded Georgtown.
Georgetown is a one man band with Otto Porter…outside the top 100 in offensive efficiency, rebounding rate, is weak at the point, and has no post.
If they get past FGCU, then they will go down to San Diego State in the 2nd round, although SDSU is kind of a carbon copy of Georgetown (weak at the point and post, relies heavily on ultra talented wing Jaamal Franklin).

llperezI don’t think minny over ucla is an upset at all. I have to do some research on minny, but ucla is capable of losing to anyone especially now without Adams
0- Posted on: Sun, 03/17/2013 - 1:17pm #755588
NbanflguyParticipantYeah if UCLA and Minnesota played in the regular season it would not be an upset at all, but an 11 over 6 in the ncaa tourney is considered an upset.

aamir543ParticipantThat Ohio St-Gonzaga elite 8 game is going to be a GREAT game, but it’s killing me over who to chose, I really like Butler this year as well, they shitted against VCU but other than that I think they’re built to go far. Wisconsin to me seems legit, I also like Ole Miss to get a couple upsets, I have a feeling Marshall Henderson can become the most popular basketball player on the planet for the next two weeks. I really want to see Aaron Craft excel this week, he can take a game over with his defense, it’s been a long time since we’ve seen a player like that.

mcbaileyParticipantI honestly think the winner of Boise State/La Salle could beat Kansas State.
I also think St. Louis could do some damage this year. With the way this year has gone, I wouldn’t be surprised if they made the Final Four.
0- Posted on: Sun, 03/17/2013 - 1:56pm #755609
Dale WorthingtonParticipantYup, I have Boise, with their great perimeter play between Marks and Drmic, in the Savory Sixteen!
This Saint Louis love makes no sense to me, to be honest.
They’re weak at the point, exceptionally weak down low, unathletic, and they’ve played 1 high-major opponent all year: Texas A&M, who is awful.
Saint Louis has more holes than a slice of swiss cheese.
0- Posted on: Sun, 03/17/2013 - 4:31pm #755651
JoeWolf1I agree, Dale. I think the Bilikins are out in the 1st round.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 03/17/2013 - 4:37pm #755650
mcbaileyParticipantYou’d be hard pressed to find a team that doesn’t have holes this year. Saint Louis won a very competitive A-10 conference and have a lot of momentum heading in. They’re playing with tremendous confidence, and they remind me of the Butler teams that made the finals.
That said, I didn’t say that it’s a lock to happen. New Mexico State isn’t bad, and we all know about Oklahoma State and Marcus Smart. I just said it wouldn’t surprise me, because they have momentum and play some pretty solid team defense.

Lotto StudParticipantI think NC State can upset Indiana in the 2nd rd.
0- Posted on: Sun, 03/17/2013 - 1:53pm #755610
Mr. 19134ParticipantThey gotta beat Temple first whose a very dangerous team.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/18/2013 - 5:54am #755730
surveParticipantI have Memphis over MSU and Duke. Crazy, but true.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/18/2013 - 5:55am #755731
surveParticipantthis is the 1st real upset that I have on my bracket…provided they can get past Temple, which will be tough. I have a lot of lower seeds beating higher seeds, but when they are one-three seeds apart I dont call those upsets. Other than that, I have K-State getting to the Elite 8 by beating the Zags.

Mad MaxParticipantValpo over Mich St?

Stevenmy bracket is done, and boy if you saw it you guys would think im crazy. anyways, i went… BIG this year with…. SAINT LOUIS winning the NCAA tourney babyyy (DICK V voice)
0 - Posted on: Sun, 03/17/2013 - 1:57pm #755613
Lotto StudParticipantI also believe Minnesota gets past Florida in the 2nd rd.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 03/17/2013 - 2:18pm #755616
Malik-UniversalParticipantI just hope ole miss loses asap so marshall Henderson can cry

Forte IVParticipant#14 Davidson over Marquette. They’ve won 17 straight, pretty hot right now going in
0- Posted on: Sun, 03/17/2013 - 4:34pm #755652
Dale WorthingtonParticipantI could see that, and quite frankly, Marquette got the most generous seed of anyone in The Tourney. Weird because the exact opposite happened 2 years ago when Marquette got an 11 and should have gotten a 7 or an 8.

i’m jus so offendedParticipantI could see all the #1 seeds losing. This could be an absolute crazy tourney considering how the year has played out, it would be fitting. I’m not sold on anyone. Period. The people doubting St Louis though have no idea what they’re talking about. They beat Memphis last year in the first round and played Mich St great.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 03/17/2013 - 6:44pm #755671
Forte IVParticipantMy final four has no #1s for the first time ever. I don’t see Ohio St getting past the round of 32. First game they got Iona which is 2nd in D 1 in scoring. I have Iowa St getting past Notre Dame, and they’re #4 in team scoring. I just don’t see Ohio St. being able to deal with two high powered offenses twice in a row. First UCLA v. Minny. The key stat going into the game is not only rebounding, but offensive rebounding. Minny is third avg 14.9 offensive boards a game.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 03/17/2013 - 7:13pm #755672
SubZeroParticipantI’ve barely been able to watch any of the teams not in one of the power conferences…..my bracket is gonna be effed
0 - Posted on: Sun, 03/17/2013 - 7:14pm #755675
llperezFor all the doubters of ucla, I admit the team isn’t great and could very easily lose to mizzu. But people evaluating ucla based on numbers need to realize ucla is a unique team. How many squads have two 6-10 bigs that are sharmin soft down low but can drill threes all day? How many teams have their sg as the teams best post up player? How many teams have a 6-9 wing like Kyle Anderson who gets 9 boards a game while being a finesse gaurd type player at the pf position? underestimate the bruins if u want. The best type of opponent the bruins could play would be a full court defensive pressing and trapping team. The bruins have looked their best vs teams that want to pressure full court. Larry drew is as quick and capable ball handling wise as any pg in America and guys like shabazz and Norman powelll thrive in that type of play.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 03/17/2013 - 8:00pm #755679
Forte IVParticipantI’m just saying they aint winning that game if they allow Minny to get 15 offensive rebounds

JoeWolf1I think Bucknell is going to top Butler, and I think they’re a legit sweet 16 threat.
0- Posted on: Mon, 03/18/2013 - 4:59am #755715
dmo21ParticipantI was just going to make a comment about Bucknell. I watch very little college hoops and have just been doing some reading up on the teams and matchups. Bucknell seems like they go as far as there big Muscala can take them. And then I read the scouting report on Butler and it says they don’t have much size, which gives Bucknell a good chance at upsetting.
0- Posted on: Mon, 03/18/2013 - 5:34am #755723
JoeWolf1Yeah, Butler has a 7 footer, but he’s Charmin soft. It will be a close game, but I like Muscala to go for 25/12 + and the Bulldogs haven’t looked that great down the stretch.

SubZeroParticipantDoes anyone think Davidson can top Marquette or Belmont over Arizona? I read the ESPN reports on their bracket, and it said Davidson is a great shooting team and Marquette has one of the worst 3-point shooting teams they’ve had in the past decade. Also, Davidson is 12-0 in their last 12 games so they have momentum going in
Belmont shoots almost 50% and 40% from 3 and Arizona apparently has a bad 3-point defense. But it says that Belmont lacks size and could get beaten up on the glass. It sounds like it could be an interesting game
Also, how does everyone see the #1 seeds going down? I’m awful at picking upsets so I’m having a hard time figuring out where they would have a hard time advancing. The only #1 seed I don’t have in the Final Four is Kansas. I have them losing to Michigan (then Michigan losing to Georgetown)
0- Posted on: Mon, 03/18/2013 - 5:51am #755728
Sewok15ParticipantYes both of those could happen. Im actually an Arizona fan and on my first bracket I took Belmont. I think Marquette could be an Elite 8 team and is much better than Arizona but they still have a chance of being upset as well.
I think Akron over VCU is a potential first round upset. VCU has always been the hunter but let’s see how they play against a tough Akron team as the hunted.
Syracuse going down in the first round to Montana wouldn’t shock me either. Kareem Jamar and Will Cherry can play. If the Orange don’t come to play they will be making an early exit.
My 2nd round games to watch out for are Iowa St. over Ohio St. Creighton or Cincy over Duke. Pitt over Gonzaga and NC St over Indiana. I am not saying all of those upsets will happen but wouldn’t be surprised if any of them did.

PurpleMonkeyDishwasherParticipantMinnesota can’t hit from the outside. It’s painful to watch as a Minnesotan and Gopher fan. Tubby removes every player that gets their 2nd foul and they sit for the rest of the 1st half no matter what’s happening in the game. Lost chance to win vs. Ohio St and Illinios because of it.
