Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantIf the basketball Gods insured you of having a spectacular NBA career where you would win multiple championships and go down as one of the greatest of all time, which career path would you prefer?
Kobe Bryant’s? Full of glamour, showtime, dunks, magazine covers, rap songs, special guest appearances, Hollywood, big lights, champion, legend, criticism, hatred, arrogant, cocky, media-lit beefs with fellow superstar/teammate, sexual scandals.
or
Tim Duncan’s? Fundamental, champion, legend, best player at his position all-time, quiet, soft-spoken, not a household name, small market, not a global icon.

mikeyvthedonParticipantBut, that being said, Kobe Bryant is a better player on an All-Time scale than Tim Duncan. Still, give me Bill Russell’s career over any of them. Winning 11 rings in 13 years trumps any other basketball accomplishments out there. Michael may be the best player of All-Time, but no one was a better winner than William Felton Russell.

rileymcshea3ParticipantTuff question but I think another question in carreer path would be one that Anthony Parker made
Anothony Parkers Euro carreer making a little under 2 million a year
In five years with Maccabi, Parker won five national titles, five national cups, two Euroleague titles and one Suproleague title. He played a major role on that Maccabi team and won back-to-back Euroleague MVPs in 2005 and 2006, as well as the Euroleague Final Four MVP in 2004. And of course probably got alot of fame for doing all of that.
Anothony Parkers NBA career making over 4 million a year then 2,855,769 a year right now
Parker was a starter for the raptors and then a starter for the Cavs when they were good and had LeBron James. But Parker being no more then a guy averaging no more the 9.3 ppg 2.3 apg 3.2 rpg for his carreer average and being a starter no teams with below average shooting guards and not being famous at all.

B FreeParticipantI’m sorry rileymcshea3, but why would you want that carrer? I would also take the modest approach but I would want NBA titles and to be respected and one of the best of all time like the post said not win a couple Euro championships and make some money, this is your dream and you wanna be a journeyman backup?

RUDEBOY_ParticipantThe unfair thing about it is that Kobe will be remembered 20 or 30 years from now..Only the people that follow basketball will remember how great Duncan was…While people who dont follow basketball will know that Kobe was an ex-ball player…They’ll have to Google Tim Duncan…
I’ve always wondered how different Duncan’s career would’ve been if the Celtics had drafted him..Almost everyone will agree he’s in the top 2 all time at his position,he’s won 4 rings..But the Celtics and the Lakers are the nba’s 2 most well known franchises..Would the pub he had gotten playing with the Celtics might have elevated his career into the top 5 all time? If he had won those 4 rings playing with the Celtics?

boxn1ParticipantI’m a huge KB24 fan, and he will be remembered as one of the all time greats. But Tim Duncan is the standard for big men. Period. Possibly the most fundamentally sound player to ever do it. And as great as Kobe was/is, MJ will be in most observers minds as being the standard. Tim Duncan skill for skill is the best big to do it,and if not for Kareem’s 5 or Russel’s 11 there wouldn’t be much of an argument for anyone but him.

flybobbyflyParticipantI’d pick the kobe path. I could give a sh1t less how much respect I have or what other people think. I would want to have as much fun as possible while being a dominant superstar in the league.

M-DYMESParticipantDuncan.
I’d hate to constantly have people coming up to me and asking for stuff or just following me in general. I love my privacy at times and I wouldn’t be getting much of that at all in Kobe’s shoes. The money is great, but IDK if I’d be one for all the fame.

aamir543ParticipantI would take Duncan’s career path, and at times I can be shy, but feel like I am a cross between Garnett and Duncan. Sometimes I emotionaly get caought up, and treat it too seriously, but then again, I don’t pound my chest after every basket.

the I in winParticipantFor his entire career Timmy played in a very boring and slow San Antonio team, only in the last few years have they picked up the tempo. I couldn’t stand to stay in a half court set all game long so I choose Kobe.
