Who will take the Kings spot in the Pacific Division?
They wouldn't still be in the Pacific? Seattle is in Washington. That's a Pacific, Northwest state.
To me it would be silly having Seattle in the pacific division with GSW,LAL,LAC,PHX when it is on the other side of Portland. But that's just my opinion.
technically every team besides minnesota is more Northwest and more Pacific than OKC, which geographically could be in the southwest. lol
I say go back to Quicksilver's original statement and go with Utah to the Pacific if any change is made. Really one doesn't have to be made, since the team is just moving up the coast, it really won't affect traveling, but Seattle and Portland should be in the same division.
This would be some re-alignment but it makes sense:
Pacific Division: Blazers, Seattle, the 2 LA's, Golden State
Southwest: Phoenix, the 3 Texas teams, New Orleans
Midwest: Denver, Minnesota, Memphis, Utah and OKC
Think about it....
this midwest would be very very very competitive... 5 PO teams ! whereas the southwest would be a little bit weak.
but it makes sense from a geographic point of view.
Personally I think teams should stay as they are unless it would hugely affect travelling or there could be a straight like for like swap. I'm sure that the Lakers and Clippers would protest if OKC ended up in their division.
would it be terrible if the league did away with east and west conference? Possibly, two conferences with 3-4 divisions with teams irrespective of what coast they are on? Each division will consist of teams located near each other still. Like NFL or mlb does. Just to spice things up a bit.
I know it would make slightly more geographical sense if they moved to the Northwest Division, but I highly doubt a change will be made. The Hornets, Grizzlies, and Thunder all stayed in the same division after they moved from Charlotte/Vancouver/Seattle.
The play offs are based on Conferences rather than Divisions so you could maybe do away with them but teams want local rivalries and travel is a factor. Then if divisions went no doubt there would be calls for just one conference, remember it is all the NBA not like the NFL which is AFC vs NFC.
I'm sure some owners would love the NBA play offs to be the top 16 teams regardless of conference but if you do that the the bigger teams maybe just get bigger.
