Why NBA Super Teams Do Not Work!
you cant compare NBA and team USA. they play for a Flag not a paycheck, o and besides what happened in 2004 with their superteam,, Lebron, Melo, Dwade, Tim Duncan, AI, they only got the Bronze
The 08 celtics were bought almost soley by free agency though. Rondo wasnt as big a factor then as he is now. Allen and KG though....thats buying a championship.
Rondo wasnt a factor in the Celtics? He was a big factor, people underestimated before the season started but he was a big factor. Also KG and Ray were aquired from trades not from FA signing, there is a difference
Suns home grown only Amare, Lopez of the starters Nash was drafted by Suns but traded then signed back on.
Frye, Hill, Jrich aren't home grown.
Problem is not every team can get a top 5 or 10 pick.
Lakers home grown players really Bynum, Fisher
Kobe was traded for by the Hornets for Vlade even if you count him as home grown
Odom, Gasol, Artest were trades and signings basically the front line outside of Bynum.
Orlando home grown Howard, Nelson
Carter, Barnes, Pietrus all trades signings.
Celtics home grown are Rondo, Perkins, Pierce
KG, Allen, Nate, Sheed all trades or signings
As Ray Allen said, Champion team is built with 2.5 stars. You basically need two super star level players + all star level player + a bunch of role players that know their roles. If no injury, that's what it takes to be a champion.
When you have too many super stars playing together, if there's any ego, things won't work and the team would backfire. It takes a great coach and a bunch of high character players to create chemistry out of all the ego and personal agenda to make a super stars filled team playing together on a high level.

Everyone has fantasy about their team winning in Free Agencies, but the real winners are teams that built through the draft like Thunder And Blazers.
No team has won through big Free Agents, Yes they can help you get over the hump but you need homegrown talent to build around.
Look at the success( or lack of )of recent FA signing. Baron Davis, Elton Brand, Gilber Arenas.
Look at the Celtics, they made great moves adding from trades. Even when they made that trade for KG , they already had homegrown players Pierce , Rondo and Perkins.
Look at the top 4 teams in the league Suns ,Boston, Lakers, Orlando, equation= Home grown talent+ tactical trades/FA signings = success.. Taking a crappy team on giving big money to a FA doesnt equal sucess.
