brodiejayParticipantAn article about Australia’s chances in Group A of the upcoming FIBA World Championships-

brodiejayParticipantI predict that Australia will finish second to Argentina. Even without Manu Ginobili and Andres Nocioni, Argentina will be too good for the Aussies. When they played their lead-up games, Argentina was pretty much playing their D-team.
I think Australia without Bogut are better than Germany without Dirk and Kaman.
I think it will be close but I’ll give Australia a slight edge over Serbia.
I’m going with
1. Argentina (5-0)
2. Australia (4-1)
3. Serbia (3-2)
4. Germany (2-3)
5. Angola (1-4)
6. Jordan (0-5)0 - Posted on: Thu, 08/26/2010 - 3:01pm #386533

brodiejayParticipantI don’t know, I’m Australian so I’m probably biased but I still think Argentina will be at the top of the group stage. Argentina still has three good NBA players in Luis Scola, Fabricio Oberto, and Carlos Delfino. Their team has played together a whole heap too. Our Aussie team hasn’t really played as a unit much before.
I still think Argentina will be better, but as an Aussie, I’m hoping Patty Mills tears it up!

omphalosParticipantAnother aussie here; if Patty plays well enough he may earn a spot on an NBA roster or at least some more playing time. I was watching the team practice for the Argentina game and they were looking pretty good; expect Patty to push the ball in transition and kick to shooters. Looking forward to the world champs, but it sucks we don’t have Bogut.

the_shamwow_guyParticipantLets add one more aussie here :). I think without Bogut they were writing us off but it is still a solid team. David Anderson is a solid role in the NBA so look for him to cover the hole that Bogut left. Matt Nielsen is getting old but a very good European style a 6’10 foward and Alek Mariç who was an all Euroleugue first teamer. If Patty Mills can pull out what he did in the Olympics two years ago I say we will make the second stage. Can’t I my wildest dreams see us winning a medal though (or advancing past the first round but still). Go Boomers!!!

brodiejayParticipantI think there’s a chance we could move out of the second round. Funnily enough, I think we’ll have a better chance if we finish third in the group. If we can avoid the US and Spain, I think we have a chance of beating most other teams. Brazil, Turkey, Greece, Lithuania and France are probably the next best teams but I think we could upset any of those teams if we play well.
