So the Mountaineers opened their season with a nice preformance against Mount St. Mary’s at home. The won the game easily and preformed well with a slew of new players. Idk if yall know the situation but WVU only returns 5 players from the team last season. Its a nice 5 but everyone else is either a freshman or a juco transfer.

Here are a few high points:

Juan Staten – JR 6′ PG –  22 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assist, 2 steals, 1 TO, 40 min.  He is a returning starter that spent a lot of the offseason with a trainer in Florida.  He seems to be working harder and extreemly motivated.  He claims he wants to be a leader and he showed it in this game.

Eron Harris – SO 6’3 SG – 19 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, 1 TO, 39 min.  Harris is our most dynamic player. He is the returning leading scorer from last year and he has improved.  Last year, he was a 3 point shooter that would occasionally get to the line but this year, he has shown an improved ability to create off the dribble and finish at the rim. He is good enough and will get the touches to average close to 20 a game this year.

Nathan Adrian – FR 6’9 SF – 11 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal, 2 TO, 25 min.  Adrian is a hometown kid who played his ball at Morgantown high.  This year, he will end up being just a long range shooter but he has a great BBIQ and will be more than that soon.  Adrian is gonna be a nice player in time.

Devin Williams and Brandon Watkins are promising freshman too.  Watkins had a nice game with 10 points but Williams was disappointing because he was brought in to rebound and only grabbed 1 board.  They will come around though.  Remi Debo will provide something for us as the year goes on too but as of now, he is just finding his way.

Terry Henderson was out with a shin injury that looks like it could hamper him all year.  I hope not because he is another dynamic guard that knows the system.  He is capable of putting up 20 on any night.

2 new guys, Elijah Macon and Jonathan Holton wont be eligible this year.  It hurts us because they both projected as big time players for us.  Hopefully they can be ready for next season or possibly midseason.

Look out for WVU this year.  They will quietly be a factor in the Big 12.
