Who’s everyone’s favorite versatile basketball player currently?

For me, it has to be Shawn Marion.

The Mavericks are in the middle of a slump while slowly bringing Dirk Nowitzki back in the mix, but The Matrix has brought his game on a nightly basis in multiple aspects. When he’s not scoring, he’s rebounding. When he’s not rebounding, he’s leading a fast break and gets an assist. And when he’s not playing offense, he’s constantly defending and always guards the best player on the opposing team. And sometimes, he’s doing all of the above.

Players like AK-47, Nic Batum and Marc Gasol are obvious picks for favorites, but who is yours?

The past? Lamar Odom, now? It has to be LeBron. No player since Kobe or Jordan has been more complete, guys his size shouldnt do the things he does. I think he is one if the few players in league history that can guard all 5 positions.

Versatile players are those who can do a little bit of everything…what separated a healthy AK-47 were his elite playmaking abilities on defense. Obviously his value has diminished after several injuries but back in his hayday he was versatile and dominant.

The gold standard for versatile players was once Scottie Pippen, but I think we can all safely say that Lebron has elevated that standard.

Gerald Wallace is mine to. 2 blocks and steals per game in the same season at 6’7 playing up at powerforward. Those days are past but still 1+ from me.

Gerald Wallace is 1 of 3 players in NBA history to average 2 SPG and 2 BPG in a season…just insane!

I’m not sure why everyone is hating on this post. LeBron is clearly the most versatile player in the league. He can play any position besides Center effectively. (He could probably play Center if he had to)

If you are going to honestly say Josh Smith, Lamar Odom, Marion, AK47 or whoever else you can think of are a more versatile player than LeBron you’re nuts.

DJO for Marquette last year. He was undersized, but built like a brickhouse and just got things done.

Josh Smith is one of mine. He showed how versatile he is against the Hornets tonight: put up 23 points, 13 rebounds, 7 assists, 4 blocks, 3 steals, and 1 TO

If Grant Hill would have remained relatively healthy throughout his career, where would he be ranked all-time? I think it would be tough to keep him out of the top 5. He could do it all.

Magic was amazing, LeBron is a stud now..and am i wrong no one mentioned Scottie Pippen yet?

talking about versitile prospects i believe rookie MKG will be very versitile one day, Marcus Smart if he can play starting PG role will be triple double threat..

and talking about those 2bpg 2spg in the same year that GWallace did i believe the best chances to be the 4th one has Nerlens Noel guy is just sick so far with 2.7spg 3.6bpg

D-WADE: can be played at the 1, 2, and 3. Best shot blocking SG ever. Way more versatile than people think.

Ive.always been obcessed with versatile players I love em and always want them on my team. Lebron may be the.most versatile ever.cuz of his defense. So I think we should leave the discussion to versatile utility players or non All Star.

Lets give guys like Donyell Marshall, Robert Horry, Kukoc, Tim Thomas up to the Matt Barnes, and Jared Dudleys some love.

Im surprised more people havent mentioned Iggy and Chandler Parsons.

Right now my favorite is hands down Evan Turner. You really have to watch him play to understand how uniquely talented he is.
Turner has literally playerd every posiion on the court this year and hes dun it down thte stetch too on both sides.Turner this year has already started games at PG when Jrue was hurt, SG when JRich went out and SF every other game.

What makes ET so special is unlike Iggy whose a great point forward who makes amazing passes, Turner can control the tempo of a game which is something guys like Wall wit all there natural playmaking abilities have no idea how to do yet.

In the playoffs last year Collins started playing Evan at PF alot cuz hes strong defender and can score in the post on offense. Against Boston Turner would guard Pierce, Allen, Bradley, Rondo and Bass for long stretches in the same.game..

This year wit Iggy gone Collins has thrown ET at the hottest hands regardless of size. Against the Raptors Turner ended the gaame playing C guarding Bargs and was the only guy playing down low on offense.

Thad Young deserves mention too and versatility should be measured by how many positions a guy can guard on defense not offense.

Marcus Smart, Kyle ANDERSON amd CJ Leslie are my favs in college, Quincy Miller and PJ3 my fav versatile rookies.

    Tracy McGrady

Underrated passer for his career. Nobody remembers that he averaged 6.5 APG in a season once and about 5APG/6RPG in his prime along with 25-30 PPG.

Steve Francis was another, average 7 RPG (at 6’3″) in a season once and 7APG in another season. He was also 2PPG shy from averaging 20-5-5 as a rookie

I really like Gordon Hayward as a jack-of-all-trades type. He can handle the ball, he’s a good passer, he can get to the rim, he can catch-and-shoot, he can shoot off the dribble, and he can defend. I’d like to see him play in the post a little bit too, as his career progresses.

Noah is leading all centers with 4.4 apg, along with a double double and 2.1 bpg and 1.4 spg. He’s arguably the best center on the break in the entire league and a very unique player.

I really loved Chris Webbers game back then.
He wasn’t playing multiple positions like many others above but he basically had unlimited moves on the offensive end.
Besides KG who was considered a SF in almost his whole Sota career Webber was among the best passing PF ever and the best of his genertion imo.

If you watch some of his highlights or some sacto highlights you have to Love the way he played.

Remember Orlando drafted him and traded his rights for Penny. This could have turned out even better than the awesome Penny / Shaq duo…

KG was a big man with handles and a jump shot, same goes for Chris Webber to an extent. Lamar Odom comes to mind. Hedo Turkoglu as well even though he isn’t very athletic. Charles Barkley as well.Anthony Dacis could also mold into the KG rype as well, guys who can do it all on offense, and guard every position, and handle the ball like a wing. Durant is also very versatile as well.
