Harvard's Saunders out vs. UConn

STORRS, Conn. -- Harvard will be without the services of its best player for Wednesday night’s matchup with Connecticut, as Wesley Saunders is out with a sore left knee.

With a nine-game winning streak coming into the nonconference matchup with the Huskies (11-3), the Crimson (13-1) will have to try for win No. 10 in a row without their leading scorer (15.7 PPG), second-best assist man (3.8 APG) and best perimeter defender.

Saunders first started dealing with soreness in the knee after the Crimson’s win at Rice, in which he scored 18 points on 8-for-13 shooting in 36 minutes of action. He was a full participant in Harvard’s shootaround Wednesday morning, but was ruled out for the game in Gampel Pavilion after experiencing more soreness.

Senior co-captain Brandyn Curry, who had missed nine of Harvard’s first 11 games with a foot injury, will replace Saunders in the starting lineup for coach Tommy Amaker.

Curry, averaging 7.8 PPG and 2.8 APG in 2013-14, is coming off his best game of the season, with 16 points in 19 minutes against the Owls.
