yes more than likely if Phill leaves Brian Shaw who has been an assistant for a while now will be the coach and will do the same things that Phil did like Al Gentry does in Phoenix and maybe even better like Gentry does over Mike D.

Lakers are still talented and should win another one

I don’t think anyhing major will happen to the Lakers if Phil Jackson. They have all of their key players like Gasol, Artest, Bryant, and Bynum locked up until 2013-2014, so they don’t have to worry about them.

If Phil Jackson retires, I think the leading candidates to become he Lakers coach are Brian Shaw and Byron Scott. I think the Lakers will choose Byron Scott because he has experience as a head coach, and he has said that it would be his dream to coach the Lakers.

It’s really tough to predict whether they will win another championship. To me, i all depends on hwat happens during free agency. If a team like Chiicago or Miami signs two great free agents, I think they instantly become championship contenders. If there is no major movement and the basically stay the same from last year, I think the Lakers would win the championship.

Let’s not underrated Phil Jackson and say that if he retires, nothing major will happen. Even with their core locked up, Phil would be a significant loss. You can’t say after losing arguably the greatest coach of all time that nothing major will happen. That’s like saying that if the Celtics lose Doc Rivers, nothing major will happen. They both will be tremendous losses.

To be honest… I think this is about money. Phil made $12 million this year… $14 million when you consider the $2 million bonus for winning the title. Jerry Buss wants him to take a $6 million pay cut next season. It’s not going to happen. I’m sure if they up the pay, he’ll return. If not, he’ll retire.

IF he does retire, then I think Byron Scott and Brian Shaw would be the main candidates.

Obviously they have a chance to win it next year, but I think it’d be that much more difficult without Phil on the sidelines.

    They’ll have options:

    Steve Blake
    Jason Williams
    Luke Ridnour
    Earl Watson
    Anthony Johnson
    Rafer Alston
    Chucky Atkins
Will Bynum (could be a free-agent)
    Chris Quinn
Keyon Dooling (could be a free-agent)

Just naming off free-agent point guards above. There are quite a few point guards that will be on the market. It shouldn’t be a problem to find a backup.

I think Ridnour would be a perfect backup to Fisher with the Lakers.

I agree. I was thinking Ridnour or Blake.

Yea he would but chances ate fisher is coming off the bench so we need a starter and Thad where Blake comes in IMO. It will be harder without Phil
but less harder is shaw coachs and keeps the system in place. I don’t think the free agent stiff matters much if we are healthy because a healthy bynum matchs up with any big man free agents and there will
    be a problem
both ways, gasol is the most skilled big man in the leauge and Kobe the most skilled guard. Add in Lamar odom and that trumps other teams fourth options and maybe raja bell. Health once again is the key. Add in a Kobe who has the first summer rest in years and surgery to repair that finger. I’m still
liking our chances. Of course the same people who had us losing this year and who jumped from phx bandwagon to Cleveland to Orlando to Boston as far as teams that they thought would beat us are just waiting to jump
    on whatever team
bron and the other free agents go to
