Luke Hancock out vs. Charleston

Louisville's Luke Hancock, the Most Outstanding Player in last season's Final Four, will miss Saturday's season opener against Charleston because of a nagging Achilles injury.

Cardinals coach Rick Pitino told ESPN.com that Hancock has yet to practice and he isn't certain when the 6-foot-5 senior will return to the court.

"It's tough to tell until he is able to practice," Pitino said.

Hancock missed much of last preseason and struggled early in the season with a shoulder injury. He averaged 8.1 points overall and shot 40 percent from beyond the arc.

Hancock, who told ESPN.com last month that the Achilles injury began bothering him last season, had 20 points in the national semifinal victory against Wichita State and 22 in the victory over Michigan in the title game.

With the injury to Hancock and the suspension to starting power forward Chane Behanan, Pitino likely will start Wayne Blackshear at small forward, Montrezl Harrell at power forward and Mangok Mathiang in the middle.
