"Gordon Hayward is a poor man's version of Adam Morrison.Yes, it's that bad."
You've seen him play what... Three games lol? I've watched him in person majority of the season and he and Morrison aren't even similar players. Other than being white, 6' 9" and shooting... You can't compare the two players at all. Gordon is a much better ball handler, has better body control, better rebounding... Better playmaking. And at 19 years old. Kid still has room to grow. He didn't play well today. You don't have to be high on him, but throwing out whack comparisons is kind of lame... Especially when you haven't seen him enough.
Shout out to Butler though... Beating the more "athletic" team. And shout out to my boy Armon lol. We go back to open gyms at Indiana State and the Height Center in Terre Haute lol.
Lol... He and Morrison aren't even similar. Hayward is actually one inch taller and way longer... The only other comparisons are that they're boy white guys who can shoot, Morrison being the better shooter. I mean, I can understand not being high on him, but that's a comparison that just doesn't even make sense. Their games aren't similar at all. Hayward is much more versatile... He's only 19, and is still growing into his game and his body.
And Llperez22 you called that Butler game perfectly! You said Mack would get hot and he did lol.
Hayward never plays good against guys that have quality athletes or good length. He's really not that good. Nothing about him is great at all, outside of him being like 6'8" and playing SF. And even that's not great. Put him against UW-Green Bay and he looks like the shiit that can't be flushed, but against a team that has length, athleticism, or a mix of both and he has a bad game. I saw it today against UTEP, against G'town and Minnesota earlier in the season.
He averages 2 assists a game. And 2 TO's. I haven't seen ANY of this playmaking you speak of watching him play either. His playmaking skills on the EXACT same as Morrisons, who averaged the same 2 assists and 2 TO's when he declared. Morrison's passing stats where even better at the same stage of development.
He never even shoots that good either. He's not even shooting 30% from 3 point range in the Horizon League. That's troubling for someone that's going to have to be a spot-up shooter in the NBA, where the range is at least 3 feet deeper. In comparison, Morrison is a much more lethal shooter.
His ball-handling is not that great, it's about average for an NBA player at best. The same can be said for Morrison.
Morrison probably wasn't the best comparison, but a poor mans Mike Dunleavy Jr is. A poor man's Mike Dunleavy Jr is when he played for Golden State. Back when he was a below average player. That's exactly how I see Hayward if he makes it to the NBA.
To get of this topic..
since there were a lot of upsets yesterday, which double digit seeds do you see winning today?
of course anyone can.. just like ohio did yesterday and robert morris almost did..
but i see cornell, siena, utah st and new mexico st pulling off upsets. and also dont count out hte nations leading scorer in aubrey coleman from houston
I have 2 "upsets" today. I picked Mizzou, a 10th seed, over 7th seed Clemson. I also picked GA Tech, a 10th seed, over 7th seed OK State.
I had Cornell over Temple, but I changed my mind.
There is no getting off this topic. This is THE topic! This is it, Jabronski!
I picked Cornell over Temple, but I'm beginning to regret that decision. I also picked Missouri over Clemson. I think it's gonna take a BIG day out of Trevor Booker for Clemson to escape with a win.
i meant the hayward topic if anyone was confused haha
Clemson could win, but Andre Young and Demontez Stitt have to handle the ball better than they have all season..Young is a solid shooter, but Mizzou has the quickness in the backcourt to crowd them and make them drive the lane, where the length of Mizzou's frontline could pose a problem for both of them.
And yes, if you want to talk tourny basketball, this is THE topic! lol
its the madness.. ANYONE can win!
I think I picked Utah State in quite a few of my brackets. Other than that, there were no upsets I went with consistenly from bracket to bracket.
I wish I had access to our yahoo tournament league, my work blocks way too much stuff.
"Hayward never plays good against guys that have quality athletes or good length."
- 13 points and 10 rebounds vs Minnesota
- 11 points and 8 rebounds vs UCLA
- 18 points and 12 rebounds vs Clemson
- 24 points and 8 rebounds vs Georgetown
- 24 points and 8 rebounds vs Ohio State
- 22 points and 14 rebounds vs Xavier
- 12 points and 15 rebounds vs UAB
- 15 points and 12 rebounds vs Sienna
I won't say he played great in all of those games, but he clearly held his own... In the three biggest games of the season (Georgetown, Ohio State and Xavier), he averaged 23.3 points and 10 rebounds... Butler winning two out of the three games. Now... What are you talking about?
And just like I said above... You've seen him three games lol. I've watched him for two seasons. "He never shoots that good." He may be shooting 30% from 3-point this season, but he shot 45% from that range last season. The kid can shoot... But you wouldn't know that if you've only seen him in three games and are going by just percentages. You say you want to be a pro scout... You can't even scout at the YMCA if you judge somebody off of three games.
And as I said... He and Morrison aren't even similar players. Morrison was strictly a scorer. He was never the rebounder at any point of his college career that Hayward is. Neither are great defenders, but Morrison wasn't even a good defender. Hayward at least competes at that end and shows decent fundamentals. And assist numbers don't always indicate how well a player can see the floor and get the ball to his teammates.
I just don't think you're right on this one, but you're entitled to your opinion lol.
Xavier up by 1 on Minnesota.
Cornell giving it to Temple right now. Up 11. Another game I shouldn't have switched. Man.
WVU has woken up from a slow start to take a 7 point lead over Morgan State with 2 mins left.
Jordan Crawford is not that good a prospect....He's a prototypical college volume shooter. He's not very quick, athletic, or a great shooter/ball-handler for even high-major college basketball. Nothing more than an above average college player. He did just make an impressive layup though.
Also, Tezo. Hayward shot:
38% from the field against Minnesota
Went 3-14 against UCLA
7-19 against Georgetown
4-12 against UAB
The only games where he was efficient from the field were against Clemson (6-13), Ohio State (9-16), and Siena (6-13).
I'm pretty sure I picked Temple in every bracket I filled out.
Hey JNixon-Iggy, are you in the Yahoo tournament challenge I put together? I was wondering if you could tell me what the standings look like, or if you could paste the link directly to the standings for that league? My work blocks everything fantasy related, so I'm trying to find others ways to get to it. If I could view my bracket for that group, that would be cool. I guess you could screen shot it and email it my way.
Do you know how to do print screens on a computer? I know I'm asking for alot, so feel free to decline.
Here's the Link to the standings...: http://tournament.fantasysports.yahoo.com/t1/group/80932/standings
Also, Jordan Crawford must've just saw what I typed about him lol. He's stepped up big making a few big-time shots. His teammate, Kenny Frease is pretty TERRIBLE though. Maybe even worse than Luis Colon LOL
Thanks anyways.
Does anyone know how to do print screens? Hit the print screen button on the keyboard? Then paste into an email and send it my way?
you da man
I thought you were going to send a screenshot. The link is forever blocked on this computer at work. There is no way around it.
The only way I could view it, is if someone does a Print Screen (button on keyboard) and copies it over to an email and send it my way. Or if that doesn't work, copy the image over to Excel and then attach the file to an email sent my way.
I appreciate your help though man. Thanks alot
Oh ok, my bad man. I knew it had to be more complicated than that lol
Mizzou v. Clemson is underway. Kim English playing pretty well, made a 3 just now and is defending well. As is the whole team in the full-court press. They've forced 2 TO's so far that have led to baskets. Young and Stitt are shaky ball-handlers for high-major PG's.
Purdue vs. Siena. Highly contested game so far. I picked Purdue to win. Not sold on Siena. They're good, but shaky at the same time.
damn, i knew i shouldn't have switched the cornell pick at the last minute. Moutain west and atlantic 10 both gots lot of love this year getting 7 combined teams in but they went 3-4 in the first round with all 3 of the winners struggling against lower seeded teams. Were they overrated a little as conferences?
That is exactly how I felt...I changed mine to Temple as well....Silly mistake.
Mizzou v. Clemson is a SUPER entertaining game
Pitt v. Oakland and Purdue v. Siena are both hard, gritty games. WOuldn't surprise me if guys got technical fouls in those games. Especially in the Pitt game...Bodies flying all over the place.
HUGE comback by siena
Mizzou is getting the Clemson backcourt into trouble. Just like I called it. Kim English is hoopin...Andre Young for Clemson is shooting very well for Clemson. There are athletes all over the floor for both teams. Mizzou up by 7 right now.
Purdue up 5 vs. Siena with 36 seconds left. Purdue needs to hold on for my bracket's sake. Gritty game. It's going to come down to foul shots.
Wisconsin is struggling with a tough Wofford squad. Wofford up 1
Pitt is stretching on Oakland. Oakland has one of the more physically gifted teams that I've seen from a low-major school. Pitt up 17
wofford looking like they might continue the magic from yesterday.
wofford has no one to blame but themsleves. during the last 3 minutes, i saw 3 completely unforced turnovers and they gave up an offensive rebound that led to tom leur hitting the go ahead basket with 17 seconds left.
yeah, before that play even they were coming down and the ball handler paniced and threw it out of bounds. I think the announcers just said that wofford didn't score a fg over the last 4 minutes.
They also missed way too many freethrows...
15 more minutes then I get to leave this workplace. Should be able to catch the 2nd half of the aggies game. Who do you all have picked for this game?
I'd glad Wisconsin pulled that one out...They are a sleeper team in my bracket.
Texas A&M up 7 on Utah St. Donald Sloan is an underrated talent for Texas A&M. He's a "winner" who isn't flashy, but gets the job done.
As a K-State fan, I'm a little scared of playing Pitt in the Sweet 16. We may have trouble with them, especially as much as we like to foul people.
Might not be much of a game by time I get home. haha
i picked the aggies.
im pulling for the ucsb gauchos over ohio state. I doubt it will be close, but that school is like a half hour from me and i have friends there. So lets get them Gauchos!
Utah St. is overmatched. Texas A&M should win easily here... I have them beating Purdue in the next round, but losing to Duke in the Sweet 16. I expect them to play Duke really tough though.
And JNixon-Iggy9... Hayward is 19 years old. He's still growing into his body and his game. He's only scratching the surface and is going to get better, especially considering the amount of improvement he's shown in less than three years. I'm not in the minority... Read his profile on various websites and mocks. They tend to agree with me. He'll be a first round pick if he comes out next season. Watch.
I played against Kyle Korver in the MVC and I think Hayward is better. He's not the cocky/arrogant shooter that Korver is, but his shooting mechanics are just as flawless. If Korver can find a role in the NBA, I think Hayward can too... And will. Just watch.
What do you think about JuJuan Johnson's pro potential?
I think hes a solid role player in the NBA.. not a starter, or a bench warmer, but he can be a shooter/energy guy off the bench. Im not really high on him, but he is better than Morrison though lol
Johnson is pretty good as a collegiate. I don't like his frame of course and the fact that he's not all that talented is a problem too for his NBA future. He's also not a good rebounder or defender man-to-man down low. He has a worse frame than Kevin Durant. He's going to have to get a game facing the basket to be an NBA player. He's too weak and narrow to play back-to-basket like he does at Purdue. He's improved alot since he was a freshman though.
Lol he does have one ugly frame. They list him at 215 lbs now... I doubt that. In high school, he was 190-195 as a senior. I doubt he's gained 20-25 lbs.
I think he'll be an early 2nd round pick after next season.
Yea I think he's 2nd round worthy. Some team will take a chance on him if he just has a good season next year. He's got too much athleticism and he could have some mismatch value..

valiant effort from Montana. New Mexico vs Washington on saturday will be fun.
