All of the basketball "experts" here are owned. I will give some pertinent info about Sofo in this thread.
Top 10 Euroleague Free Agent NBA Prospects
There has been so much discussion about the summer 2010 NBA free agent class, but hardly any mention at all about some of the Euroleague players that will be available. With all of that cap space that some of the NBA teams have, they would be very wise to not forget about some of the potential NBA impact players that are available in Europe.
These are 10 Euroleague players that will be free agents in the summer of 2010 that NBA teams should consider. These Euroleague players all have the ability to contribute in the NBA, provided they land in the right situation.
NBA teams should just look at how much the Milwaukee Bucks were helped by adding 3 Euroleague players to their rotation (Ersan Ilyasova, Brandon Jennings, Carlos Delfino - Delfino came from the 2nd tier Eurocup). These are some of the free agents to be had in Europe that could offer similar help to other NBA teams. I will include comments about each player from some NBA scouts that I know and talk to.
Vitals: 6-10 315
NBA Comparison: a 6-10 version of Shaq
Status: unrestricted free agent - draft rights held by the Los Angeles Clippers so another team would have to trade for his rights before signing him.
My Assessment: Big Sofo is an absolute beast offensively on the low block. He is virtually unstoppable one on one in the low post. Even if you double team or triple team him he can still score and he is good at passing out of double teams.
He is surprisingly athletic and quick down the floor for a man of his size. Stamina problems with him are overblown as he can give a team a consistent 15-20 minutes. Potential NBA starting center and at worst case scenario elite level backup center.
NBA Scout Assessment: An NBA scout said this of Schortsanitis, "He is the most dominant low post player in Europe. If he had the right mindset and training regimen he could be an all star in the NBA."
The 24-year-old center was drafted 34th in the 2003 by Los Angeles Clippers, which still own his NBA rights.
Sofoklis Schortsanitis, who is at the end of his contract with the Greek team Olympiakos, is considering to move to the United States to play in the NBA. The 24-year-old center was drafted 34th in the 2003 by Los Angeles Clippers, which still own his NBA rights. Schortsanitis is open to practice with the Clippers this summer to evaluate his incorporation to the Californian franchise.

Big Sofo.. the plot thickens..
No pun intended. Big Sofo's option seem to be getting more every day.
According to sport24.gr, Sofoklis Schortsanitis will have even more options this summer when his contract ends. Apart from the Clippers that are already in contact with the Greek center there is also talk of the Houston Rockets who are interested in signing him. The Clippers selected Schortsanitis in the NBA Draft of 2003 at number 34 and they still obtain his NBA rights to this day.
As Schortsanitis becomes a free agent in the summer, an NBA team will not need to pay a buy-out clause in order to sign him. Of course there is always the possibility of Olympiacos coming back with a new contract but the article says that it will probably happen after the end of the play-offs. The troubled player seems to have left all of his bad habits in the past and he appears to be in very good shape focusing on his career. Much will depend on Olympiacos' attempt at a possible 2nd Euroleague title and also his and the team's performance in the play-offs trying to win the Greek League. The possibility of Schortsanitis signing for another European team or for rival Panathinaikos seems to be a distant one..
Big Sofo Highlights
How are we owned?
I can't speak for anyone else, but I never said he would never play in the NBA, just that he won't be a dominant force. I know i've talked to you about him on a few threads, and I am familiar with him and I don't see him playing above Chris Kaman or Blake Griffin. I think he could be a good backup, but he's gonna have a hard time getting a lot of minutes with Drew Gooden, DeAndre Jordan, and Craig Smith all in their front court. I wish him the best of luck, but I just don't see him being much more than an experienced and solid backup.
where does it say that the clippers signed him? This is what we basketball "experts" here call a summer league invite
"He is the most dominant low post player in Europe. If he had the right mindset and training regimen he could be an all star in the NBA."
he still doesnt have either of these
The Clippers drafted him in 2003, they own his rights
I can't wait to see a shorter version of Oliver Miller.
Sofo + Late Night Taco Bell, KFC, 1$ Menus and 5 dollar footlongs = Big Sofo....Big Bad Sofo
European Baller if you like sofos game this much tiago splitter must be a god to you
You guys are a JOKE. That Motiejunas 32 points/21 rebounds thread is epically HILARIOUS. You guys know NOTHING about European basketball and nothing about European players. Splitter? Please............there are plenty of centers in Euroleague that are better than him.
I must say 100% this is the LEAST knowledgeable basketball forum BY FAR on the internet.
And it is also easily the most ignorant and arrogant basketball forum I have ever seen.
Quick question then....Why are you here?
But yet you keep coming back to give us updates on this future diabetes patient
Name some better centers than Splitter? ill admit i havent seen many Euro games, and besides Ricky Rubio, Jose Juan Carlos(who is underrated), and Fran Vasquez i havent seen many games, im just curious i have seen some youtube videos of Sofa and he looks like hell be a beast, lol and by the way Sofa is actually taller than Miller.
You post a couple of opinions from RANDOM blogs on Sofo, and you magically jump to the conclusion that he's coming to the NBA. You ever heard of the National Enquirer? They make up stories and say that they got the info from "sources," and all of those blogs can do the same. If Sofo is as good as you say he is, then he would have been in the league a while ago, man, especially if his rights have been owned by the Clippers all this time. Also, we would have seen a story on an credible site such as NBA.com, ESPN.com, or NBADraft.net. (Shout-out to Aran and Adi.) It isn't even on B.S ESPN Insider. Sure, he was making all that money in Europe, but even penny-pinching Donald Sterling couldn't pass on a "6-10 Shaq." "A 6-10 Shaq?" Do you live in Europe? If so, do they have LensCrafters in your country? Also, if you live in Europe, why would you criticize us about our knowledge, or lack thereof, on European players, knowing that we don't have as many opportunities to watch them as you do?
Aaaaannnnnnndddddd, I'm done with you. I hope you never log on again. Ever. Ever. EVER! WAAAAAHHHH!!!
Yep, that first blog is right on point about Spanoulis. He could start for any team in the NBA. For the life of me, I just can't figure out how the Rockets let him go after he dominated the way he did. Maybe you can figure it out.
I remember when he played the actual shaq last summer and got "our quicked" by shaq, made shaqs day.
I expect Omar Samhan to have a better chance of making it into the NBA as opposed to big Sofo.
Why are they ranking him as one of the "Top Free agent", from a NBA point of view he's not if his rights are owned by Clippers...
Sofo is powerful, got soft hands and pretty good athleticism with his size. Contrary to Miller, Sofo has always played with winning teams so despite the fact he's a bit of a hot head, he plays to win. The best centers in Europe are Splitter, Vasquez, Pekovic and Bouroussis.
Pekovic, Bourousis, Schortsanitis, Vazquez, Batiste, Maric are all better than Splitter is. Also, Splitter is really no better than centers like Mozgov, Javtokas, Kaun.
The best center in Europe is Bourousis. Once again the NBA only fans here embarrass themselves. Bragging about all their basketball knowledge which extends to "I heard about Splitter because he was a first round draft pick so automatically he is the best center in Europe".
It's just as ridiculous as the nonsense here about "Rubio was 5th pick in the draft so obviously he is the best point guard in Europe".
This forum is like a comedy. NBA fans are generally retarded.
"I expect Omar Samhan to have a better chance of making it into the NBA as opposed to big Sofo."
Not a chance. There is a bit of a talent divide in facing WCC teams and Richmond as opposed to Panathinaikos, Barca, Real Madrid, CSKA, and umm... the U.S. National team.
Honestly Juan Carlos Navarro is better than Rubio right now and their on the same team. Hows Kaun doing? he was one of my favorite players a couple years ago.
Yes, Navarro is far better than Rubio is, as are several other players on Rubio's team are also better than Rubio is. Kaun is doing very well. He is a very good center, although his offensive game is very limited as his basic offense is just dunking.
Kaun is having a much improved year compared to last year. He is with CSKA Moscow and averaging about 9 points 5 rbs and a block in about 20 minutes. I hope he comes over, I am a fan of his too, I think Cleveland has his rights.
Also, it was reported by Greece's version of ESPN that the Clippers ALREADY offered him a guaranteed contract in 2006 and also another one again THIS YEAR. Also, that the Rockets have already been in contact with his agent and want him.
Looks like all the retarded comments here about "if he was any good the Clippers would have already offered him a contract" just got exposed for being truly retarded, which they are. I am going to enjoy rubbing this in against all the retarded racists here once Sofo comes to the NBA.
This American xenophobic, patriotic, nationalism as it relates to basketball/NBA superiority nonsense/racist black supremacist crap on these forums is absurd and insulting. You need to have a serious comeuppance.
Again, I can't speak for anyone else, but my opinion on Sofo has nothing to do about race or prejudice towars European players. There are plenty of European players that I like, I can't wait til Nando De Colo or Sergio Llull come over, I started following both of those players last year before the draft and really like their games. I just don't think Sofo is going to be an impact player in the NBA. Players with weight issues and stamina problems haven't faired well in the NBA with the exception of Shaq. I'm just using previous information about players like so and comapring it to his game to come up with a conclusion on his impact in the NBA. It has nothing to do with race, dis-liking European basketball, or anything involving being an American. It's just Sofo, I doubt certain American college star's impact in the NBA too, just because I'm an American who doesn't think as highly of a European player doesn't mean it has something to do with anything outside of basketball.
Saha Kaun is a 6'11 version of Brian Zoubek. He's not a true NBA player.
Sofo isn't anything more than a 12th man in the NBA if he ever makes it. He looked out of place in the NBA preseason, and even though he's playing good in Europe doesn't mean anything.
GatHator called him a future diabetes patient. Classic. lol
Hes way better than that theres plenty of players that have came from Europe and done well, Hes big but he runs the court very well for his size, honestly he remind me a lot of Nene.
If he's better than that, why is he not in the NBA? Nene is a MUCH better pure athlete than Sofo, and he's got a better post game. And even though he's not a great defender or rebounder, he's much more talented than Nene.
He couldve played earlier in his career but he chose to play in Greece why do players like Childress, and Kleiza play in Europe? some players play in Europe for different reasons than not being able to make a team.
He played in the preseason though as soon as this year. Josh Childress and Kleiza at least made NBA teams.
Go to eurobasket.com and type in his name to see how "dominate" he has been. Then type in m boy tonaka beards name and see who has had a better career
America is the best .http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yydlX7c8HbY
OMG! Is that Quincey capitalizing the first letter of his sentences? What's the world coming to? (Watch him call me out for ending a sentence with a preposition.)
I is afraid... That grammer are two good...
someone needs to embed this for me:
Right, a morbidly obese 6'8 center is going to be an NBA All-Star. This guy would have major defensive problems in the NBA, and his shots would be getting blocked a whole lot more often, remember NBA teams have been working for years to stop Shaq, Sofo is a &$#%#&@! in the low post by comparison.
Also, I see no indication he is even likely to be coming to the NBA next season. Working out with the Clippers doesn't mean much, he is a much more valuable commodity in Europe.
You're welcome :-)
Thank you, my good friend. You're a true American. And as a true American you have a huge penis. Unlike those Europeans with tiny, barely visible penis's.
Like I said, this forum is full of racists.
I don't think Europe is a race.
Up to this point I have only presented facts. And a song that shows how much America kicks Europe's ass. Which happens to also be a fact. Your tiny European brain might not comprehend this, though.
