Summer League game last night, here's what I saw
Sonny Weems: He is a raw player offensively, and it showed yesterday. He is a great athlete though. He is usually is a decent shooter but yesterday he was missing every shot he took. If he wasnt missing shots he was getting stripped with his horrible, HORRIBLE ball handling. It was painful to watch. He also didnt impact the game defensively, but he did rebound like a mad man. I was expecting more. 4 pts, 9 rebs, 6 to's, 2-16 from the field.
Coby Karl is a hustler. He is a very very smart player with a good jump shot. He could make the roster for Denver, but not because he's the son of George Karl, but because players that hustle and can score offensively have a spot in the NBA usually. The only shot he missed was a half-court buzzer beater I believe. He just needs to work on his handle and defense mostly, and tighten up everything else in his arsenal. 19 pts, 3 rebs.
Ty Lawson didnt play good. He actually reminds me of Anthony Carter, except more careless with the ball.He shot the ball poorly, and he didnt finish any of his drives. As a matter of fact, he didnt make any shot he took. He was 0-7 from the field! Wow, I knew I couldnt remember him making anything. He also turned the ball over and didnt do anything special as a passer. He was also posted up by George Hill a couple of times. He disappointed me. 8 pts, 3 assts, 4 to's.
Kareem Rush has no future in the league. He looked REAL BAD. Next person. 2 pts.
Richard Hendrix plays for Denver now. I never he got moved from Golden State. He's a pretty big man. He didnt do anything special, just used his strength every now and then to get position and score. Is a decent rebounder though, got most of his boards out of his area. I think he's OK, but he is nothing more than a guy thats like a 10th or 11th man at best. 11 pts, 4 boards.
Ronald Dupree is a good slasher. He may or may not have a spot in the league though.
13 pts, 4 rebs.
Cedric Simmons isnt an NBA player to me. He doesnt do anything on an NBA level. 6 pts, 6 boards, 1 blk.
Jack McClinton SUCKED yesterday. He is just unable to get his shot off. Think Salim Stoudamire with less athletic ability. He is an OK passer though. He took 2 shots and made none of them. He just isnt an NBA player, he plays too small. 0 pts, 4 assts,
George Hill is a good looking athlete. He can get to the rim easily and has good quickness and strength. He needs to improve his jumper from what I saw, and he also isnt that good a ball handler for a PG. He isnt that good a passer either. He has long arms and is active in the passing lanes though, and he is a good on ball defender (as Ty Lawson could tell you). He is a solid backup PG in the league. 16 pts, 2 assts.
Ian Mahinmi is a beast on the glass. One time he took the ball from right over Cedric Simmons. He also got baskets in the pick and roll, but he doesnt have any real offensive moves. He also had a gazillion fouls, he is a sucker for the pump fake. When he jumped at the right time, he did block shots though. But that was hardly ever. He still is a while from contributing. 12 pts, 16 rebs, 2 blks.
Malik Hairston plays big. He has a good post game and a soft shooting touch. He would make a good fit for San Antonio, but as a 2nd team or mop-up duty guy.
I have a feeling Coby Karl will make the Nuggets roster. Also I really like George Hill...I think he will definitely be a starting PG one day. McClinton looked bad the game I watched him play too when the Spurs played the Hornets. You are right he doesn't look like an nba player at all. I though he had a good one on one game but he hasn't shown that yet. I wish De Colo would've played in these summer games...I wanted to see his skills.
I wanted DeJuan Blair to play, to see how good he was gonna be.
Blair looked good the game I saw him. He has slimmed down some. As long as his knees stay OK he will be a very good backup PF at worst.
