NBA Comparison: Shawne Williams/Trevor Ariza
Strengths: Athletic forward with good defensive potential ... Impressive leaping ability and explosiveness ... Good lateral quickness ... Cuts to the basket well ... Sets himself up for easy baskets around the rim ... Great finishing ability ... Has good size for a small forward at the next level ... Long wingspan, measured at 6'10.25" ... Excellent court vision ... Is a very instinctual passer, seeing plays before they develop ... Aggressive rebounder ... Active on the offensive glass ... Only recently turned 19 years old and has a lot of room to improve ...
Weaknesses: More of an athlete than anything else ... Lacks the size/strength to play power forward, but doesn't have the skills to play on the perimeter ... Offensive game is extremely raw ... Not comfortable creating offense for himself ... Has the potential to be a good shooter, but hasn't turned that potential into results ... No three point range on his jump-shot ... Very turnover prone ... Can make brilliant passes from time to time, but can also make a lot of mistakes trying to make brilliant passes ... Poor ball-handling ability, but doesn't seem to know it ... Tries to do things with the ball that he's not capable of ... Needs to add weight ... Has had reported attitude and maturity problems surrounding him since high school ...
Overall: Richmond is an interesting prospect that has a lot of likable qualities but a lot of red flags as well ... Won't be able to contribute anything to an NBA team immediately, so whatever team drafts him will need to be extremely patient ... He's in a terrible draft being a "project" going into a lockout season as teams should be looking for players that can "weather the storm" and be ready when the labor dispute eventually gets resolved. Second round material, but certainly not a lock to be drafted ...
