Shaker Heights' Esa Ahmad highlights 2013-14 All-Ohio Division I boys basketball teams

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The 2013-14 Associated Press Division I All-Ohio boys basketball team, based on the recommendations of a media panel:

FIRST TEAM: Javon Bess, Gahanna Lincoln, 6-foot-6, senior, 22.0 points per game; Esa Ahmad, Shaker Hts., 6-7, jr., 25.7; Vincent Edwards, Middletown, 6-7, sr., 21.4; Mitchell Spotleson, Uniontown Lake, 6-5, sr., 19.8; Nate Allen, Tol. Bowsher, 6-4, sr., 22.2; Jae'Sean Tate, Pickerington Central, 6-5, sr., 22.3; Kipper Nichols, St. Edward, 6-7, jr., 18.4; Dezhonatae Bennett, Trotwood-Madison, 6-2, sr., 24.3; Kevin Vannatta, Upper Arlington, 6-3, sr., 19.0.

Notable:

Esa Ahmad, Shaker Heights: The junior power forward averaged nearly 26 points per game and helped the Raiders win the Solon District.

Kipper Nichols, St. Edward: Nichols averaged 18.4 points per game, helping to lead the Eagles to the state semifinals for the second time in three years.

Duke Barther, Berea-Midpark: In the first year following the merger of Berea and Midpark high schools, Duke Barther led the Titans to the Southwestern Conference championship, the Grafton District final and a 21-4 record.
