Suspended Wake Forest basketball player Tony Woods pleaded guilty today to a misdemeanor charge of assault stemming from an incident with his girlfriend over Labor Day weekend.

After his guilty plea, Woods was given a suspended 60-day prison sentence, a $100 fine and ordered to perform 100 hours of community service.

When the incident occurred in early September, Woods was charged with three counts of assault for kicking and pushing his girlfriend, Courney Lorel Barbour. Barbour suffered a fracture of her spine in the incident.

On Sept. 13, Woods was suspended indefinitely from the Demon Deacons basketball team. There was no word from the school on Woods' standing with the team after his sentence, but Jeff Bzdelik did say at the time of Woods' suspension that in addition to dealing with the allegations, "it is also important that Tony have the necessary time to maintain his good academic standing."

According to the Winston-Salem (N.C.) Journal, assistant coach Walt Corbean attended Woods' court appearance on Thursday.
