Player of the Week

Naithan George, Georgia Tech

The 6’3 sophomore has been on a rampage of late. On a weak Georgia Tech team, George has been one of a few bright spots. Against Stanford, the young lead guard had 22 points, 7 assists, and 5 assists. later in the week, he had 26 points, 8 assists, 1 block, and 1 steal. He has completely taken over for the team and they have gotten hot. If he can continue to play at this level, the Yellow Jackets could pull themselves out of the bottom of the conference. Due to his recent play, he won ACC Player of the Week this week.

Freshman of the Week

Brandin Cummings, Pittsburgh

On a deep Panthers team Cummings found a way to get some major minutes. Against SMU the freshman put up 12 points, 3 assists, and 2 steals. Against Miami he put up 11 points, 4 assists, and 1 block. In consistent playing time Cummings continues to show that he could be a promising player for the blue and gold for next season and could be a player to watch in next year’s NBA Draft.

Who’s Hot

Cooper Flagg, Duke

It’s hard not to include Flagg each week. He’s the clear No. 1 pick in this upcoming draft and continues to show why he’s the best player in college basketball. Against Stanford he had 19 points, 6 assists, 5 rebounds, and 2 steals. Against Virginia he had a double double consisting of 17 points, 14 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 blocks and 2 steals. He is a dominant player on both sides of the ball and continues to show it week in and week out. He won ACC Freshman of the Week this week.

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

Surprisingly the Yellow Jackets have played some good basketball. The squad has won five of their last seven games and put themselves in the conversation for the ACC tournament. At the beginning of the season the blue and yellow were at the bottom of the conference but due to its recent play they have put themselves at the middle of the conference. If they could continue to be on a streak like this they could be near the top of the conference.

Who’s Cold

Syracuse Orange

The Orange have collapsed as the season has gone on. The squad has lost their last three games and have the second worst defense in the ACC. Things don’t look like they are going up for the squad unless they turn things around and have a strong finish.

Stanford Cardinal

The Cardinal had a strong start to the season but have had an up and down middle of the year. They were at the top of the conference at the start of the year and have found themselves in the middle of the conference. While they should be locks to make the tournament they will need to heat up to become favorites at the tournaments.
