Player of The Week
Meechie Johnson Guard, South Carolina- Against Notre Dame, Meechie scored 29 points on 9-15 shooting. He also hit four threes and grabbed five rebounds. He followed this up with 24 points and eight rebounds against George Washington. For the week he averaged 26.5 points per game on 56% shooting from the field. The 6-2 junior Ohio State transfer is now averaging 18.9 ppg on 43.8% free throw shooting on the year and has become one of the leading scorers in the SEC Conference.
Freshman of The Week
Reed Sheppard Guard, Kentucky- Sheppard was great this week, filling the stat sheet in both of Kentucky’s games this week. Against Miami, he scored 21 points on 8-13 shooting. Reed hit five threes, grabbed five rebounds, dished out four assists, and had three steals as well. He followed this performance up with 25 points, nine rebounds, six assists, and two steals against UNC Wilmington.
Who’s Hot
Khalif Battle Guard, Arkansas- Battle has scored a ton of points off the bench this week. Going over 20 points in both games. Against Duke, he scored 21 points on 5-13 shooting from the field. He also tallied five rebounds and five assists. Against Furman, he scored 25 points on 7-11 shooting. It was a great week for the senior guard.
Johni Broome Forward, Auburn- Broome was sensational this week on both sides of the court. He scored 30 points against Virginia tech, while also grabbing 13 rebounds and blocking three shots. Against Appalachian State, he scored 21 points and grabbed 13 rebounds again. Broome has been a consistent scorer all season, but this week was special for him.
Who’s Not
Aden Holloway guard, Auburn- Holloway is averaging over 10 points per game this season but is shooting under 35% from the field. This week he is 2-17 from the field and 0-8 from deep. He did not score against Virginia Tech, and scored only 8 points against Appalachian State.
Jacobi Wright Guard, South Carolina- In two games this week Jacoby is a combined 2-11 from the field. So far this year Wright has provided solid minutes for the 7-0 Gamecocks, but as of late, he has struggled hitting his shots of late.
Top Five Rim Protectors
1. Jamarion Sharp] Center, Ole Miss- Sharp is 7’5” and possesses incredible length. He averages 2.5 blocks per game. His season high for blocks in a game is five, and he has recorded at least one block in every game this season.
2. Trevon Brazile Forward, Arkansas- Trevon is a freak athlete with a large frame. At 6’10”, Brazile is a plus defender can blocks and alter shots at will. He is averaging over 2 blocks per game this season, with two games with four or more blocks.
3. Aaron Bradshaw Center, Kentucky- The 7-foot freshman has only played one game so far this year, and recorded one block in 13 minutes. His numbers should grow as he continues to gain minutes and gets used to the college game. He possesses great length and instincts defensively and will show his ability to reject and alter shots throughout the remainder of the season.
4. Aidan Shaw Forward, Missouri- While Shaw is “only” 6’8”, he has rejected a ton of shots this year. Averaging over two per game, he has blocked five shots in one game twice through nine games.
5. Chandler Lawson Forward, Arkansas- Lawson does a great job securing the paint with Brazile. He is averaging just under two blocks per game this season. His season high for blocks in a game is six against Duke. Lawson has excelled defensively and has a habit for making plays.
