JeffreyhardenParticipant1) Milwaukee Bucks: Joel Embiid C
4th year Stats: 18PPG 13RPG 3BPG
I pick Jo Jo because he has the best chance to both reach his potential and he helps a major error for Milwaukee. Milwaukee already has Larry Sanders and he has pretty much shown he doesn’t belong long term so if you can pair Giannis Adetokoubo John Hensen and Joel Embiid together from a young age that would make for a great defensive and good offensive frontcourt of the future and would allow the Bucks to trade Larry Sanders cap relief and young players (Larry Sanders and Gary Neal for C J McCollum, Joel Freeland, Victor Claver and Dorell Wright). This way the Bucks can stockpile assests and stay at rock bottom for a few years to get future stars to build the right way like a OKC (thru the draft and select players that will stay their long term).
2) Orlando Magic: Marcus Smart PG
4th year Stats: 16PPG 8APG 7RPG 2.5SPG 1.5BPG
I don’t see Orlando passing on a Victor Oladipo and Marcus Smart backcourt for the next 15 years. This would make Orlando transition to being a good team a lot easier because these 2 guys want to win and will bring it every night. They will be able to keep their vets like a Jameer Nelson, Aaron Affalo and Glen Davis to help the young guys come along (In 4 years imagine a Marcus Smart Victor Oladipo Moe Harkless Tobias Harris Nikola Vucevic lineup, with the above 3 vets and 1 more impact young player)
3) Utah Jazz: Jabari Parker SF
4th year Stats: 26PPG 6RPG 4APG
This pick would be a fairy tale type of selection because of Jabari Parker’s background, with him being a morman and Utah being the state of morman’s and where Jimmer Fredette’s still having people pass out over him this would be a marketing dream come true. This would also be a great pick from a need standpoint. The Jazz need scoring and playmaking from a player. They have the bigs that can take care of the defense and an occasional post up (Favors and Kanter) they have the wing players and point guard who are capable of multiple things, just not great at scoring in (Hayward, Burke, Burks,) They just need that dominate scorer and thats what Jabari would bring from day 1. Score Bari Score.
4) Sacramento Kings: Dante Exum SG
4th year Stats: 19PPG 6RPG 6APG
This pick would be a great pick for the Kings as it would give them a great rotation of guards in Exum, Isiah Thomas, and Ben Mac. The ideal pick for the Kings would be Embiid to pair with DMC upfront so that he could have some defensive help. But Exum is the perfect combo to go with Ben Mac and Thomas, he can play the 1 with Ben Mac in the game and either the 1 and 2 with Thomas, which would release Thomas to be a scorer and not having a height disadvantage on defens because Exum can cover the shooting guards since he is 6’6”.
5) Philadelphia 76er’s: Andrew Wiggins SG
4th year Stats: 23PPG 7RPG 2.5SPG 2.5APG
This has the makings of a nice team with the athletic Wiggins and MCW in the backcourt, granted can’t neither shoot great (or good lol) but can you imagine MCW to Wiggins off of a Narlens Noel block shot. I know I can.Wiggins might not be the next Lebron but I can see him as the next Paul George with less range and better slashing and same defense.
6) Boston Celtics: Julius Randle PF
4th year Stats: 22PPG 11RPG 4APG
I have been saying for a few years that this guy reminds me of what an athletic and aggressive Antonie Walker could have been. Walker was a 20-10-5 threat every night. The same could go for Randle, he is a beast and is going to be highly motivated if he falls to 6th in the draft and would be a great building block for Boston.
7) Denver: Gary Harris SG
4th year Stats: 19PPG 5RPG 4APG
Gary Harris would be a perfect fit on the Nuggets team. He is not going to be an all-star in the beginning of his career like the top 6 could be, but he reminds me of Eric Gordon or Bradley Beal, those guys that don’t stand out name wise when it comes to the draft but come in ready to play and produce from day 1 and you know if they can stay healthy they are going to produce for 15 years
8) Cleveland: Glen Robinson SF/SG
4th year Stats: 13PPG 6RPG 4APG
This would be an ideal place for LiL Big Dawg to land, he would be able to either start at the 2 with Waiters coming off the bench for good and hopefully more efficient, Loul Deng at the 3 doing the little things along with scoring and defense, Kyrie at the point scoring so Robinson wouldn’t need to score he would be able to fit in kind of like his freshman year, when his role was to do the little things that helps a team win. Or he can come off the bench to play anywhere from the 2,3, or 4.
9) Los Angeles Lakers: Zach Lavine PG/SG
4th year Stats: 19PPG 7ApG 5RPG
Lavine might need a little time to adjust to the NBA game and Kobe might hate the pick but this would be the right pick. The Lakers always need an athletic point guard and this is their chance to get him. Imagine this athletic kid manning the point guard in D’Antonio’s system that is just scary. If he doesn’t work out as a point he can always slide to the 2 when Kobe retires. Either way the Lakers need to take a chance on a superstar type player and this kid has superstar potential in him.
10) Philadelphia 76ers: Noah Vonleh PF/C
4th year Stats; 15PPG 11RPG 55 FG%
Initially I thought he wouldn’t be able to fit next to Narlens, but i saw that he is 6"10 250Lbs and I thought this is the perfect guy to place next to Narlens. He is a rebounding machine, can run the court and catch and finish. In the new system that the 76ers coach Brent Brown has brung to the team from the Spurs he can pretty much develope into a poor man’s Chris Bosh with his skill set.
11) Detroit Pistons: James Young SF
4th year Stats: 18PPG 6RPG 3APG
This would be a perfect pick if the Pistons are able to keep their pick. They would finally get a small forward who can shoot (or we think he can shoot 38% fg 32% 3fg). He is from Detroit, helps solve a need for the team and can fit in with Jennings, Bynum, Stuckey, Slinger, and KCP for a nice comination of guards and wings for the Pistons to either build around or use as assets in a trade.
12) Minnesota Timberwolves: Willie Cauely-Stein C
4th Year Stats: 8PPG 8RPG 2.5BPG
If their is 1 team that doesn’t need anymore scoring but some defense, its the Timberwolves. WCS can play with both Kevin Love and Big Pek, and would bring in defense, hustle and defense something that the Timberwolves need badly. Oh and he can block shots which means he is bringing some defense to this team that badly needs some defensive help lol.
13) Denver Nuggets: Aaron Gordon: SF/PF
4th Year Stats: 14PPG 8RPG 4APG 1.5SPG 1.5BPG
This would be a great upside pick for the Nuggets, where they get a Shawn Marion clone. Gordon could be a great role player on a good team. The Nuggets are stockpiling assests and could you imagine a fast break where Ty Lawson has Faried on one side, Gordon on the other side and McGee following behind him. that would be as good as it gets for a team with no superstar. (Or these assets can grab them a superstar when packaged together???)
14) Memphis Grizzles: Doug McDermott SF
4th year Stats: 15PPG 4RPG 45%3FG
If Douggy Buckets would have been playing for the Grizzles this year, it would have been a match made in heaven. But whats a one year wait. With Courtney lee and Tony Allen taking care of the defense and lee with some shooting, Tony with some crazy, McBuckets can just walk in and shoot and cut, playing next to Conley and Gasol will make NBA life a lot easier for McBuckets.

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantSmart is a tremendous player but he isn’t going to nearly average a triple-double at the age of 23…
As a matter of fact, the only players to ever average over 16pts, 8asts, 7rebs, 2.5stls, and 1.5blks in a single season were Michael Jordan (once) and Magic Johnson (twice)…

FoxdashmanParticipantI understand the appeal of the defensive upside with that duo, but offensively it wouldn’t work unless one of them drastically improves from beyond the arc. Also, the point is moot because there is no way that the Magic would take Smart over all of the other talented prospects.

ItsVictorOladipoParticipantAs much as I like Smart if we pass on Wiggins and Parker with the second pick I will not be too happy.
Those 4th year projected stats seem pretty crazy too. If they are accurate that would make 8-9 All-Star caliber players and 6 All-NBA caliber players just from this class alone within four years of their debut.

jwall1ParticipantI don’t see why Orlando wouldn’t consider Smart if they were to get the 2nd pick. This team lacks a legit point guard (no offense to Oladipo) and a leader and Smart would fit the bill well.

ItsVictorOladipoParticipantSmart is a good prospect. Parker, Wiggins and Embiid are excellent prospects. I wouldn’t pass on them just to address a position of need. You can find leaders in the NBA, finding elite players is much more difficult.
If June rolls around and Smart is widely considered the BPA available at #2 and the Magic are picking then I would be fine with that decision. But I want to go with the BPA in a draft like this, not draft for need.

jonus grumbyParticipantMany teams get themselves in trouble by attempting to draft a player they thing will fit into their current team. Don’t overthink it and just take the best player at your draft position and worry about how they will fit your current team later.

Those are your potential franchise players; those are the first three guys you take your chance on on draft night if you have a top 3 pick.
