dmo21ParticipantSo as I’ve been seeing a couple threads about season predictions, and that we’re about 2 weeks away from regular season tip off, I figured I’d get the annual Season Predictions Game going. This is year number 8!!
The basics are:
-Predict the rankings of each division from 1 to 15.
-3 guesses each for NBA awards (with your most likely option first)
-3 guesses each for each stat category leader (with your most likely option first)Scoring for rankings:
-5 points for guessing the correct ranking of a team
-3 points if your predicted ranking is one off from their actual ranking
-1 point if you predicted if the team was in the playoffs or not correctly (we’ll just say top 8 as I don’t wanna deal with that play in tournament thing they are talking about)Scoring for awards/stats:
-5 points if your first pick was correct
-3 points if your second pick was correct
-1 point if your third pick was correctPredictions and changes to your predictions can be made up until tip off of the first regular season game.
I’ll put mine out here soon and then everyone can use that format after (would make my life easier if you did haha)1+ - Posted on: Fri, 12/04/2020 - 5:42am #1244490

NorrinRaddParticipantEAST
Tier 1
Nets – I’m going with the loaded roster to lead the East, which may or may not include Harden.
Tier 2
Heat – The Heat should improve their record after reaching the finals.
Bucks – Jrue Holiday is an upgrade but so is the top of the East.
Celtics – One of the deeper teams in the league and getting younger talent to help out.
Raptors – Not sure they improved the roster from last year, but Nurse is a great coach.
Tier 3
Hawks – Another deep, young team in which this one is very offensively gifted.
76ers – A jolt to the lineup and coaching staff will take time but the talent is there.
Pacers – Indiana should have their lineup together this year.
Tier 4
Wizards – Westbrook is a playoff threat with Beal in the East.
Magic – No Jonathan Isaac but Vucevic + good team play = a playoff threat.
Cavs – Cleveland could be a playoff threat in the East with good play from Drummond/Love/Sexton.
Tier 5
Knicks – Knicks have some talent, but they have holes, lack a franchise player and are not very deep.
Hornets – Hornets only have a few promising players on their roster and I have low hopes for them.
Pistons – Pistons not only have few promising players on their roster, but they have an identity crisis too.
Bulls – Bulls are in the sweepstakes for the #1 pick because they are a terrible team even in the East.WEST
Tier 1
Lakers – Lakers are trying to build a dynasty here and I crown them 1st of the 4 interchangeable teams out West.
Nuggets – They beat the Clippers in the playoffs last year and are built to win with their young guys getting better.
Clippers – This team has a chip on their shoulder and I have them going 3rd out West with best wings in NBA.
Warriors – This team isn’t quite the Warriors of old, but still has a chance to win the West with their starting 5.
Tier 2
Suns – Chris Paul is an upgrade to the playoffs for the Suns imo, and Crowder and co. up front should help too.
Jazz – Utah is tough with a nice rotation and Favors back, but their top 7 or 8 players just isn’t the Nuggets good.
Mavericks – If Porzingis would start the season I’d put Dallas higher, but they should make the playoffs with Luka.
Blazers – Portland might just have the best inside/outside game in the league and barely make the playoffs out West.
Tier 3
Pelicans – New Orleans needs to gel a little before being a playoff team out West, they are a playoff threat though.
Spurs – San Antonio is well coached enough to be a playoff threat, but they lack arguably a top 25 player in the league.
Grizzlies – The Grizzlies are an outside playoff threat, but have an uphill battle without Jaren Jackson, Jr. hurt to begin.
T’Wolves – T’Wolves should be a playoff threat with the talent on the team, but will need to gel and were awful in 2019.
Tier 4
Rockets – Of course if Harden stays they are a borderline playoff team, but in my scenario at some point it blows up.
Kings – Sacramento has some good pieces, however they lack interior defense to and arguably a top 25 player.
Tier 5
Thunder – This team has some young talent but ultimately are going for top picks with this overhaul they just did.The award winners –
MVP – Anthony Davis/Giannis Antetokounmpo/Kawhi Leonard… honerable mention: Stephen Curry/Kevin Durant
MIP – Markelle Fultz/Michael Porter, Jr./OG Anunoby… honerable mention: TJ Warren/Marvin Bagley
DPOY – Anthony Davis/Bam Adebayo/Rudy Gobert… honerable mention: Mitchell Robinson/Giannis Antetokounmpo
6MOY – Brandon Clarke/Michael Porter, Jr./Bol Bol… honerable mention: Will Barton/Marcus Smart
ROY – James Wiseman/Killian Hayes/Bol Bol… honerable mention: Chuma Okeke/Obi ToppinThe per game averages –
PPG – Luka Doncic/Giannis Antetokounmpo/Kevin Durant… honerable mention: James Harden/Stephen Curry
RPG – Andre Drummond/Giannis Antetokounmpo/Rudy Gobert… honerable mention: Joel Embiid/Anthony Davis
APG – Trae Young/LeBron James/Luka Doncic… honerable mention: Chris Paul/Ja Morant
BPG – Myles Turner/Mitchell Robinson/Rudy Gobert… honerable mention: Anthony Davis/Kristaps Porzingis

NorrinRaddParticipantRockets move above T’wolves after the pre season here. They still have Harden for now and Wall, Wood and Cousins are doing pretty good.
Talen Horton-Tucker for OG at the MIP spot. He has proven he’s legit.

HitsterParticipantI think Bucks, Celtics, Nets, 76ers, Heat, Pacers, Raptors and Wizatds are the likely play off teams but that the Hawks having added Gallinari and Bogdanovic to their young score could improve to near 0.500 and possibly sneak a 7th or 8th seeding.
Out West I’m with the main consensus too.0- Posted on: Tue, 12/08/2020 - 10:23am #1244620

4. Utah Jazz
5. Portand Blazers
6. Dallas Mavericks
7. Houston Rockets
8. Golden State Warriors
9. Phoenix Suns
10. Memphis Grizzlies
11. New Orleans Pelicans
12. San Antonio Spurs
13. Minnesota Timberwolves
14. Sacramento Kings
15. Oklahoma City ThunderMVP: Antetokoumpo, Doncic, Davis(Giannis could be best scorer and rebounder in the league as a 2 way player, Doncic could be 2nd scorer 1st passer, Davis is a champ, he’s in his prime and he should be a 27 PPG DPOY).
If the nets are what they’re supposed to be, KD won’t be far.
MIP: Porter, SGA, Wood (Durant, wall, Cousins)
DPOY: Davis, Antetokounmpo, Gobert
6MOY: Clarkson, Levert, Herro (i’m torn with the nuggs guys, porter MIP or 6th MOY, barton 6th MOY contender, if i’m the nuggs coach i play Porter 28 mins off the bench, he goes 18-8, here is your 6th men AND MIP of the year).
ROTY: Wiseman, Ball, Haliburton
PPG: Harden, Doncic, Antetokounmpo(if he’s not traded to the nets, harden will always attempt 10+ treys 10+ FTA per game, westbrook was 2nd in the league in FGA last season, wall can’t), Doncic averaged 29, scary thing,he was only shooting 46-31-76, more PT for giannis obviously, he’ll have to, + no reason to rest for a conf semi finals when you’re 26…oopsie)
RPG: Antetokounmpo, Gobert, Sabonis (again more PT for giannis, doesn’t hurt to play with a legendary 4 rebs center and no inside depth).
APG: Doncic, Young, Lebron(more fire power for young, so more assists and less dumb FGA, more playmaking, scoring, post up, iso guys, and FTA in the lakers roster, less PT for lebron equal less assists), maybe a Simmons or Morant could sneak in at 3rd or maybe i’m forgetting the 3 active leaders in APG aka CP3, Wall, westbrook….
BPG: Davis, Gobert, Turner(the 2 knicks elit shot blockers annihilating themselves as serious contenders, they were both top 6 in blocks per 36 mins last season).
SPG: Simmons, Murray(dej), Bridges(mik) (i’m gambling on a 30 mins murray, a 33 mins Bridges, maybe a guy like delon wright, starting and with the highest PT in his career could be in the discussion).1+ - Posted on: Tue, 12/22/2020 - 7:13am #1245115
