    Ah, shoot.
I didn’t include James Nnaji because he wasn’t really in Barca’s rotation at all for the first few games of the season, nor was there any indication he would play in LEB Gold/Silver or anything.
I absolutely do think he’s draft-worthy, but I thought he’d probably want to wait until 2024 if that were the case. And then Barca went and started him and played him 27 minutes and he looked really good in the very next game. Admittedly, they did so against the one opponent that is starting a 16-year old Center, so it could have just been an aberration, but he played too well.

The consequences of snap decisions, I suppose. Excluding Nnaji is going to look really dumb, and it WAS intentional, but not meant as a sleight.

James Nnaji is definitely draftable, but he’s not a shoe-in. This class is that loaded. He might stay a year like you said.

The 2023 draft does look to have some nice depth and the interest could be how the rest of the top of the draft shapes up behind Wemby and Scoot as the teams who miss out on the big prizes will be looking closely at what is available. Will that part of the draft move around a lot or will clear top 5 players emerge behind the big two.

I think there’s a crapshoot after 2. The next prospects in line can be All-Star level players in theory. There’s quite a bit of them. Thompson twins, Whitehead, Whitmore, Nick Smith to name a few. Imo there are a top 50ish players that could be 1st round picks too.

Yep I fully agee Noririn but if we see maybe 5 or 6 teams looking to tank or really developing their young players there will be several teams missing out on Wemby or Scoot so they will need some sort of consolation prize. Some of the teams already have potential stars but those just starting the rebuild will need a cornerstone in sooner rather than later.

There could be just as good prospects picked up by a team drafting lower in the top 10 than those in the top 5 and that is the interesting part of next year’s draft to me after the lottery.

I like GG Jackson as the guy with the most upside after the big 2 but there are a host of guys who can challenge for a top 5 draft place and it isn’t a bad year to be in the draft as all thet hype will be around the big 2 so other guys will have a bit less spotlight on them.

With all the talk about the Wemby stakes I wonder if the Blazers now regret not trying to move and instead extending Lillard as they could have well been in the mix for hm and Scoot.

It is ok to let the season play out before determining whether a draft is good or not, deep or not. If past is prologue, roughly half of the expected one-and-done guys will not be good in the NCAA or elsewhere. Whereas a decade ago that would usually lead them to not enter or stay in the draft, that is now not a hindrance though I am unsure as to how many objectively bad college players (posterboy being Peyton Watson) went on to succeed in the NBA. The pool is not lacking the 6’7″ to 6’10” long athletes that the NBA loves whether they are first-year eligible guys or not. Some percentage of them will show that they can actually play well once put against other similarly sized players and with coaching that is actually competent. We will also probably see a Keegan Murray type story, it might even be his twin brother. Until the season starts playing out, it doesn’t make a ton of sense to pan it.

That’s true, but sometimes you just know when a draft is going to be great… Sometimes the talent in it is that good. There are always pleasant surprises during the season that prove everyone wrong. But for now, it’s a good as a start as any to get your preseason rankings out. As for those Peyton Watson’s out there, not a fan of bad college players entering the draft either. PB&J is the biggest piece of Warriors trash I’ve seen in years. And I feel they shouldn’t have got drafted yet alone even entering their names. Doubt they succeed, but that’s yet to be seen. It’s going to be a fun college season and draft process.

When you have good college players staying in the NCAA as you had in the later 2000’s and even into the 2010’s you could predict the depth a bit better – Steph, Klay, Harden, Kemba, Lillard, PG13 and Kawhi etc all spent at least two years in college but in that time we also had a lot of Sophs, Jnrs and Seniors being drafted high and turning out to be busts.

Rebooting this with an updated Mock.

Wow, does it look wildly different, there were some swings and misses in the first draft.
I’m sure this one is going to look just as wrong in 2 months.
Hopefully a bit less, since there’s actually a bit of a sample size to draw from for this year, now.

      Also, as a quick aside–
Vojin Medarevic and his team, KK Dynamic, are really interesting. They have no less than 4 draft eligible players in prominent roles on the team (Ilija Milijasevic, Dusan Radosavljevic, and Mihailo Boskovic also), and they are a whopping 10-1 in Serbian League play, only suffering their first defeat in their most recent game.

Medarevic is 20 years old, comes off the bench, and absolutely does not offer any rim protection (I’d even be worried about his defense at PF).
However, he’s also averaging just under 16 points per game (which leads the team) on absolutely ABSURD 70% / 61% / 82% shooting efficiency (on four 3-point attempts per game volume). And I mean, he rebounds.
I’m not sure exactly what NBA teams will think about him, but to me it would feel like a HUGE oversight to dismiss his legitimacy as a prospect. There’s a lot of basketball left before the draft, I’m not sure a really hot 11 game sample size is enough to warrant a first round draft pick, either. But with no franchise at stake, that’s where I’d put him right about now.

Awesome mock! My board’s already out of date thanks to Cam Whitmore showing he can play, and Travon Brazile out for the year. Hopefully Tyrese Hunter’s ok too. Some guys you got I have moved up on my board since then too such as Amaree Abram and Keshon Gilbert. Mojave King is the real deal, so, I’d move him up personally. Definitely keep up the good mock posting, as I love big boards and mock drafts to see where other people are at. Thanks!

I’m still of the clear opinion we have the number 1 and 2 picks locked up so the real interest is the best of the rest. The Razorbacks backcourt of Smith and Black will be a must watch now Smith is playing and we’ll get a pretty good feel of how they compare to each other as the season goes on. Brandon MIller continues to look a legit top 5 prospect contender and GG Jackson as one of the youngest guys in the draft with his upside and athleticism would be my other guy to potentially go within the top 5.
I think whoever emerges as thye better prospect out of Smith and Black will be a top 5 lock, I’d edging to Jackson being very strong top 5. Brandon will have limited draft downside and if he slipped out of the top 5 I’d see him still going top 8. Likewise the lesser of who emerges from Smith and Black combo.

Baba Mller when he finally gets on court after the travel benefit ban is the guy who could shake up the top 5 but I’d hold him in the top 1-0 until we see howv he lookls this season.

Rayan Rupert looks the only International guy apart from Wemby who could join him in the draft lottery so might be worth keeping an eye on.

Kel’el Ware is having to play more as a PF as his team have a Snr at C so his performances need ti be watched to see what he looks like out of and when he goes to his natural position.

It’s been a while! I made a few changes, it’s interesting how some things have changed and some haven’t. And some some have simply just changed back. I’m still not sold that this is the year Rayan Rupert should/will declare, or how high his stock would be, although I could just be wrong, and I do think he’d almost certainly get drafted if he does enter this year. I feel similarly about Dariq Whitehead.

I’m sure March Madness will change some storylines, and it will be nice to get a clearer sense of who’s in and who’s out, but here’s a rough list I put together to update this mock:

    1. Victor Wembanyama, France (previous: 1)
    2. Scoot Henderson, G League (previous: 2)
    3. Brandon Miller, Alabama (previous: 4)

    10. Cason Wallace, Kentucky (previous: 5)
    11. Amari Bailey, UCLA (previous: 28)

Alright, now that the Early Entry Deadline has passed, I made up a mock I feel pretty decent about at the moment. I’m sure the combine will change a few draft stocks still, but I like the way things are starting to round out.
I did a mock lottery and (sort of) accounted for team needs/goals, but since the real lottery hasn’t happened yet that was probably a silly exercise– though I don’t think the prospects that are likely lottery picks are changing much regardless at this stage, it strikes me that the most that would change is a couple of spots in the order.

    1. Charlotte Hornets – Victor Wembanyama, France (previous: 1)
    2. Orlando Magic – Scoot Henderson, G League (previous: 2)
    3. Detroit Pistons – Brandon Miller, Alabama (previous: 3)
    4. Portland Trailblazers – Ausar Thompson, Overtime Elite (previous: 4)
    5. Houston Rockets – Amen Thompson, Overtime Elite (previous: 5)
    6. San Antonio Spurs – Jarace Walker, Houston (previous: 9)
    7. Indiana Pacers – Nick Smith, Arkansas (previous: 8)
    8. Washington Wizards – Anthony Black, Arkansas (previous: 6)
    9. Utah Jazz – Cam Whitmore, Villanova (previous: 7)
    10. Dallas Mavericks – Taylor Hendricks, UCF (previous: 29)
    11. Orlando Magic – G.G. Jackson, South Carolina (previous: 22)
    12. Oklahoma City Thunder – Cason Wallace, Kentucky (previous: 10)
    13. Toronto Raptors – Gradey Dick, Kansas (previous: 12)
    14. New Orleans Pelicans – Jalen Hood-Schifino, Indiana (previous: 13)
    15. Atlanta Hawks – Keyonte George, Baylor (previous: 15)
    16. Utah Jazz – Amari Bailey, UCLA (previous: 11)
    17. Los Angeles Lakers – Jett Howard, Michigan (previous: 28)
    18. Miami Heat – Trayce Jackson-Davis, Indiana (previous: 18)
    19. Golden State Warriors – Dereck Lively, Duke (previous: 23)
    20. Houston Rockets – Dariq Whitehead, Duke (previous: undrafted)
    21. Brooklyn Nets – Jordan Walsh, Arkansas (previous: undrafted)
    22. Brooklyn Nets – Terquavion Smith, NC State (previous: 43)

Only prospect I’d definitively move would be Jordan Hawkins up. I like how you put Ausar ahead of Amen. A little bold but very good mock. Thanks for sharing!!!

I was definitely a bit higher on Ausar a bit earlier on. I think it’s a fair take that Amen probably does have the slightly higher ceiling after all but I mean I do think they’re pretty darn comparable. I think Ausar is a slightly better shooter and defender while Amen is a better passer, though both are skilled passers and great defenders (at least at OTE) and still a bit streaky as shooters.
In this case I just thought, both being pretty similar, Ausar was perhaps the better fit for Portland, silly as it is to even really consider that at this stage.
I certainly wouldn’t consider it a guarantee to see Amen go first, but I get why it’s more likely than not.

Hawkins is from my area, I’m rooting for him and I think you’re right that he’s almost certainly going in the first round. He seems like a real canny shooter, but I’m not really sold that he’s a fully dynamic on-ball scorer or really making statements with much of anything else to be a full 1st guarantee. I’d love to be wrong, it sure happens enough (its bound to if you take a lot of guesses!!)
I feel like Terquavion Smith’s shockingly quick development as a passer made him slightly preferable as a prospect to me in spite of the streaky shooting, but I know Hawkins has been coveted by a lot of scouts- and winning that championship sure won’t hurt, so I absolutely buy that I’m undervaluing him on this take.

Amen and Asur are between 4 and 6 and the majority of mocks I have seen so for someone to flip them around to have Asur go first is a perfectly reasonable call IMO. Heck of a lot could depend what the needs of the teams picking at 4 onwards are and on some of those teams Asur may well be a better fit than Amen and if that is at maybe 4 or 5 then they could flip order.

I don’t see Amen dropping below 6 really so Asur would need to go pretty high. Asur I’d expect to be gone well within the top 10 too.

I agree Hawkins is a bit low and think Sanogo is a bit high. I like Nnjai at 32 as that would be one of those good stashers the Spurs have sometimes done although I think this draft is more about ranking players than actual team needs.

Solid mock. I like the Vincent Valerio-Bodon sleeper prospect. I don’t think Lively will slip that far atm. He has high demand in this draft. My biggest surprise from the drops would be Jalen Wilson, but it’s not impossible.

I don’t really know what to make of Valerio-Bodon. He isn’t young and I don’t think he’s particularly high-ceiling, he seems like a solid 3-D kind of role player. But I saw that he had worked out with a LOT of teams prior to the draft so I figure there very well might be some interest and as a 6’9″ wing who can probably end up playing 2-4 in the NBA if he pans out, I figured there might be cause to be optimistic about his draft stock.

I ‘m also taking my guess at considering what I imagine a team’s objective from the draft even is; like, some might need a specific type of player, some might just need the best player available, and I think some don’t really want to take on another contract right now and the best situation for them is to opt for a draft-and-stash pick and just determine who’s the best player to bet on from THAT pool. I don’t think this year’s international class is that strong (unlike next year’s which I think is nuts lol), so I think it’s more likely that Valerio-Bodon has his name called simply for the opportunity of the situation.
That was mostly the reasoning in projecting Enzo Andre Shahrvin, as well. I think his traditional big skillset and lack of a shot is not particularly enticing, especially for someone who is 6’7″– I do think there are a few better prospects from the college ranks that I have going undrafted (like Jalen Wilson or Toumani Camara). But in fairness to Shahrvin, he did at least fulfill that skillset at a high level at FIBA and in France’s top league as a teenager last year, with elite FG% and rebounding rates and a solid block rate- and I think he does have the frame to contest as a potential NBA big if he continues to get better. I think he’s just good enough to be a viable draft-and-stash, and if he does get his name called, it’s probably for the luxury of maintaining prospect rights without needing to use the roster spot for a while.

I’ve been making versions of this along the way and I keep flip-flopping on having Jalen Wilson in or out. He’s definitely the first name on the list of people I’d expect to have missed on and I would guess he’ll probably have a 2-way contract (perhaps even if/when he does get drafted).

I do think this is ignoring some buzz about what teams are looking for/who they’re interested in for this year’s draft also, so I’m sure there are some swings and misses. I just like to theorycraft.
