    Okay, here we go again!
Year 12 of The Season Predictions Game!!

    Last year: http://www.nbadraft.net/forums/topic/2023-season-prediction-game/

    The basics are:
-Predict the rankings of each division from 1 to 15.
-3 guesses each for NBA awards (with your most likely option first)
-3 guesses each for each stat category leader (with your most likely option first)

    Scoring for rankings:
-5 points for guessing the correct ranking of a team
-3 points if your predicted ranking is one off from their actual ranking
-1 point if you predicted if the team was in the correct range (playoff team, play-in team, non-playoff team)

    Scoring for awards/stats:
-5 points if your first pick was correct
-3 points if your second pick was correct
-1 point if your third pick was correct

Predictions and changes to your predictions can be made up until tip off of the first regular season game on October 22nd.
I’ll put mine out here soon. Please try to use the same format to make my life easier!

Dejounte Murray already breaking his hand… Bronny’s sucks… OKC is for real, Philly is incomplete… Klay Thompson had a great debut for Dallas… Edey fouls too much… ROY might get 20 minutes/game this year… Just thought I’d throw some spaghetti on the wall and see if it sticks… hahaha

Dallas will be fun to watch if they can share the shots out. Nothing else really jumped out to me after the first few days of games except Scoot being on the bench for the Blazers.

Anthony Davis has been balling in the first few games with the rise of Jokic and the emergence of Wemby plus being on the same team as LBJ has meant “The Brow” hasn’t had so much hype recently. But he played a career high number of games last year and made All Defensive First Team and All NBA Team for the first time in 4 years so is he possibly now at his peak as a fully matured player.

Gotta say that Ryan Dunn is a pleasant surprise so far, although he is playing the complete opposite role he did in college. He was the master of “stocks” (steals + blocks). Now he hasn’t done any of that much (He’ll pick it up I’m sure) – yet he can suddenly shoot… interesting. Good fit for the Suns.

Wemby achieved another 5×5 last night, the 2nd of his career, only the 3rd guy to have more than one 5×5 game and he is the only guy to have done it in the last 6 years.

Ja Morant looking sharp again and Booker had his shooting boots on last night.

Nothing really standout from a rookie yet, lots of the guys are works in progress although Sarr , Edey and Risacher are starting. I don’t think Dillingham and Shannon have seen the court in a competitive NBA match yet?

      Yeah, that’s a burner…

      Here’s another eye opener…
Markelle Fultz is an NBA player – he’s not on an NBA team atm. That’s a crime!

Yep Fultz has had all those injury issues and isn’t the greatest shooter but surely a team would have offered him veteran’s minimum unless he wanted more or is looking at options abroad.

He’s still made $87 million gross from NBA salaries alone which after tax is still going to be somewhere around $30 to $40 million before you factor in endorsements and what his wealth made in interest and investments. So he should be pretty comfortable if he hasn’t gone OTT with his money.

I would have thought a developing team with a good fitness and coaching dept might have had a look at him and seen what they could get out of him. The Spurs sprang to mind or even a contender looking for some bench scoring, he could potentially put himself in the shop window for a better deal. Plus if he looks a good bench player on a contender then others will look at him in the future and he gets a few years to be on strong teams.

Bilal remains a top prospect and should really come on this year as one of Washington’s key players and one of their main scoring threats alongside Jordan Poole. I do however think 2nd year guys being in MIP vote doesn’t seem right, really it should be guys off rookie deals or at least 3rd or 4th year guys. Should a guy on his rookie deal who makes the All Star game or even did a Derrick Rose and became MVP be in MIP mix.

Chet and Wemby will hopefully put up better numbers than last season this year so should they be in the mix. Do voters use some caveat when voting for this?

Zaccharie Risacher had a 33 point game last night and a couple of nights back Zach Edey had a 25 point game including some outstanding FG shooting so the rookies are hotting up. Even former Kentucky and now T-Wolves bench warmer Dillingham has seen court time.

I’ll admit, I watch more college basketball than I watch NBA basketball… but I catch some highlight every night… SGA had been on a terror getting 50+ points whenever needed. Meanwhile Nikola has a 30/20/20 game… hard to argue that being the best… Both players deserve the MVP award from the bird’s nest view…

I was crunching numbers yesterday figuring out how the best players ever stack up against each other… I know stats are more inflated in today’s game, but damn! Nikola Jokic is truly up there with the best players in history. He got robbed that year he won the title of the MVP award too.

I’d have SGA ahead as OKC have a far better record than Denver this season. Plus Jokic has won 3 of the last 4 MVP awards so voters might look elsewhere this year. But Jokic is having these huge games night after night and is making a strong case for being one of the greatest frontcourt players ever. LBJ played a lot of his career at SF so I could make a strong case for Jokic being the best big man this century.

Steph went past 25K points last night I think and Giannis hit 20k mark a few days back. DeRozan only 150 odd points off 25k points too.

I can see SGA get it, but if the argument is just so someone else can get the award, it’s not a good idea… It’s like Barkley over Jordan. That shouldn’t have happened. SGA has more weapons around him too. I can see it going either way. SGA is having a great season – so is the Joker. He just has less weapons than SGA.

I could make a stronger case for Jokic getting it last year than him winning it last year. But I still think SGA gets it. He has had 3 successive 30 ppg seasons so he certainly deserves an MVP for one of them and the Thunder have had a season to back up his bid.

The bigger prize of course is being a finals MVP as that is almost certain to bring your team the title.

If there ever was a year to give the award to SGA it would be this year. His team won 67 games and hes played in 76 with one more to play of course. Hes clearly taken the leadership role for his team where they openly copy him, his work ethic and professionalism. Hes the perfect MVP.

But lets be honest man. Jokic is league MVP. Hes the best player in the world and he should win it this year just like he should have won it the year they gave it to Embiid.

Jokic is so good I’m going to throw it out there if you compiled a list of the greatest active players in the NBA there is an argument for him to be number 2 behind LBJ. That puts him in the mix with Steph, Westbrook, Harden and KD in my mind.

CP3 became first player to start all 82 games in his 20th season, Thibs rested 4 of his starters and I noticed Houston bench warmer Reed Sheppard actually started a game this weekend.

Well its the end of the regular/Melo season. Behind the Thunder the rest of the West was super tight with only 4 wins between 2nd and 8th. I could see there being some shocks with play in teams possibly ousting 2nd seeded Houston.
