HadzialijagicParticipantOnly thing Cousins and Drummond have in common are size. Drummond is a freak athlete and great defende with a limited offensive game. Cousins is powerful and is very quick but isnt that athletic vertically he has only solid defense too but his offensive game is waaaaayyyyyy ahead of drummonds.

gburnsParticipantThey are totally different players. Cousins is good at everything and great at nothing… and I think that’s to his detriment. He shoots 40% from floor. Drummond shoots well over 60%, because he dominates around the rim and does nothing else. But thats why big guys are big guys. Guards can shoot, its nice to have a big guy stretch the floor for offense, but Cousins doesnt even do that because his range only extends to about 18. So what value does Cousins bring you being able to break down people a little bit and create with modest efficiency? Guards can do that, you dont need your big guy doing it. You want your big guy raising the FG% of team by cleaning everything up and being a target. Cousins has a ton of raw ability, but he’s not a great player in the value he brings to a team. He needs to focus on being a big man.

220ParticipantDrummond is fortunate as well to end up in Detroit playing with Greg Monroe. Monroe has already shown a lot of ability offensively and hopefully Drummond can learn a lot from him. The best part is Drummond won’t be asked to do too much too soon because Monroe can carry the load offensively. All the Pistons need from Drummond when the season starts is to play tough defense and rebound…everything else he provides is bonus. Durmmond has the physical skills to be outstanding now the Pistons just need to start working on his basketball skills to get him there.

Mark H WrightParticipantMiami isn’t perfect by any stretch. They still have a defensive hole at center (Joel Anthony gets the most out of his ability, but at 6-8, he leaves a lot to be desired) and Spoelstra compensates by packing his defense in the paint and giving opponents room on the perimeter (22.1 percent of their opponents’ points came on 3-pointers, which was more than all but two NBA teams).

ksoezoaooParticipant“It is fair to say that a whole host of things will dictate whether or not it’s a realistic goal (including) health of players, chemistry, team coming together, and a full training camp where the coach can implement not only the defensive system but the offensive side of the ball as well. We hope that everything we have done from a personnel standpoint and everything that we do from a strategic standpoint is going to put us in a position to compete for the playoffs.”

gburnsParticipantI dont think there is a great comparison for Drummond. First of all, he lists himself 6’10, but thats what he measured at combine w/o shoes on. He could easily list himself 7 ft if he wanted.
He weighs 280lbs. So dont forget that when doing odd-ball comparisons to guys like Cousins. Cousins even overweight doesn’t weight what Drummond does cut. Cousins is nowhere near as athletic or as big.
Drummond is not the highest leaping center in the league, but he might be the most athletic. What sticks out about Drummond is the crazy quickness on his feet for how big he is. D. Howard and DeAndre Jordan both probably get up higher, but drummond has quickness and agility over both of them, which is saying something considering he’s easily the biggest of the 3. Drummond moves his feet way better than Howard and has softer hands and better touch. Drummond will eventually become a 60% + FT shooter. He’s got a soft release.
Drummonds kind of a heavier version of Howard with a little more raw Amare Stoudemire in his natural ability. (soft hands, quickness and agility around rim) If Drummond ever develops Amare’s nose for scoring, look out. I guess what I’m saying is I dont think Drummond even needs a post game to score 20 ppg in NBA, his ability to finish on the run is pretty special. He could score 20 off put backs, back cuts, drop offs and lobs.
But scoring isn’t where a big man necessarily makes his team great. What will make Drummond an eventual MVP candidate is his ability to defend. Amazingly quick hands and foot speed. He’s just going to be a terror around the hoop on both ends.

Mr. 19134ParticipantDrummond is like a 6.11 280lb Shawn Marion and not because he shoots from his chest.
