Javale McGee to me just isn’t a starting center was really hoping the Lakers signed Brook Lopez with their remaining 5mil.  They should have made a run and try to steal Clint Capela away from Houston before they tied up money into Rajon Rondo and Lance Stephenson, but now their offer wouldn’t be high enough Rockets would match.  I think Capela is the ideal modern NBA center.

Only FA worth taking a flyer on in my eyes at a starting spot is Greg Monroe.  Do Lakers feel comfortable throwing Mo Wagner into the fire right away and splitting minutes with McGee?  Do they make a run at Nikola Vucevic and his expiring deal, Kevin Love (who you would think is a second star to pair with Lebron since he east a max spot next year), or Hassan Whiteside (I wouldn’t touch he eats up a max spot next year too)?

Interesting signing for the bucks for 3.4 million on a one year deal. On first look this makes sense for both but there is one big problem for the Bucks here to me. They are the worst rebounding team in the league and bring in maybe the worst starting rebounding center over the last 10 years. Yes he provides the lovely spacing but he also makes them even worse here.

Don’t really know if I like it for the Bucks but also no risk for this money even if he is not durable or injured.

Mitchell Robinson, the guy that was rumored to had a promise from the Lakers. He looks like he’s going to be NY’s starting center in 2 yrs. As mentioned by OP Monroe might be the best remaining free agent Big available Becuz all signs point to Capela returning to Rockets. Harrell is still on the market. Lakers could use some toughness up front. Dante Cunningham is on the market, he’s capable of playing 3 front court positions.

Why not bring Channing Frye back? He’s the kind of center you want to team with LeBron, at least under the old way orf thinking (surround LeBron with shooters).

I rather just throw Mo Wagner into the fire than bring back Channing Frye.  They both are stretch 5’s and Wagner brings so much more to the table at this point.

I don’t really like the fit of Monroe with the Lakers as he’s not a 3 point shooter or a roll & block shots kinda guy, which I think are the two types of centres that would work best for them. Some cheaper/under the radar guys they could target are: Harrell, Lauvergne, Len, Nogueira, Speights or Vonleh.

Monroe doesn’t fit given that roster. Wouldn’t be horrible, but I’d go more D and rebounding. Len and Nogueira seem like great fits.

Noguiera is not an upgrade over Mcgee. Not even close. He’s byfar the softest player in the league. If he fouls players in the paint he helps them up and apologizes. Lebron would not have it.

With LAL bringing back Zubac and waiving Bryant, I am guessing they plan on really giving him a shot. He was darn near dominant in the G-League last season averaging 22 pts, 12 rebounds and 2 blocks per game while also shooting 86% from the free throw line, but didn’t play well with the Lakers. He saw action in his rookie year and played very well, but just seemed out of sorts this season. I think he’s definitely due to get his biggest opportunity yet. Bryant was no slouch in the G-league either and was all-league as well as just being a more ‘modern’ type of big, so LAL must genuinely believe in Zubac.

I think Mo Wagner is going to log heavy minutes from day 1. He has a great motor, super competitive, smart and is also a great shooter. He’s even shown the ability to not only attack closeouts, but break defenders down off the dribble. And LA just needs a stretch 5 in the rotation. He’s also an underrated screen setter and is dangerous in the pick and pop. If he proves to be a plus level defender it’s going to be hard to keep him off the floor.

They have three Centers. Mcgee, Wagner and Zubac. All are different as well. It should be fine.

was engaged in a pitched battle between 2 powerful factions

1/2 believed D’Lo Russell was the correct pick at #2 in the 2015 Draft & a future NBA Super Star & the other half believed Okafor was the pick & he would have been a perenial All Star anchoring the Lakers successful Rebuild for years to come

Turns out we were ALL wrong b/c Porzingus – who went #4 to the Knicks – was the correct decision

Russell picked #2 by the Lakers & Okafor picked #3 by the Philadelphia 76ers are now Both wallowing away in obscurity playing for the Brooklyn Nets – D’Lo might have a chance to ressurect his career in Brooklyn but it doesn’t look good & Okafor looks like an NBA version of a T-Rex & he’ll be playing in China soon

As far as right now Tomas Bryant could be a servicable Center until the Lakers can get a 5/C who can protect the Rim on Def & shoot 3’s or at least be a threat in a Lebron focused Offense that needs the paint cleared for Lebron drive & kick offense

Russell was one of the best in the draft. They still haven’t dropped Deng’s salary. They’ll have him, not just through this season, but next. If they still held onto Mozgov to the same point, they’d have PG Ball SG Russell SF Ingram PF James C Whoever.

I think I’d roll with Mo Wagner and sign a veteran like Michael Beasley to switch over to a small ball lineup.  Beasley is only 29 and was pretty serviceable when Porzingis was out last year.  McGee can give you hustle minutes as the third option.

I really don’t think Monroe is a good fit at all. McGee could be valuable situationally but I don’t think you can rely on him to play heavy mins. And Wagner and zubac are both unproven, although I do like Wagner and think he will be able to contribute this season. At this point there aren’t really many options left, but Channing Frye might be a stopgap solution as a veteran presence who can stretch the floor.

I’m actually very surprised that they didn’t make it a priority to get something done with Lopez.

All this talk about McGee being a knucklehead – he was considered useful enough by GSW to use on two championship winning teams. Maybe he has finally learnt what his roll is and not to make a stupid play because in the play offs that’s where a rush of blood could really hurt you.

Lopez gives the Bucks nice outside shooting and experience so is a good pick up.

I wonder why Lakers never used their cap space to get someone like Robin Lopez, Bulls would probably have done deal to get a nice trade exception if they could have worked it and they could then have taken on a salary dump.

Al Jefferson is apparently off to China, he could have been a short term option for the Lakers.

My guess is their logic is most likely Lebron wants Love to come with him as he Trusts him come playoff time…Also he is still young enough to help them out..

So my guess is either this year or next they will either trade for him by the deadline or get him to sign via F.A next off season.
