burningfloodParticipantWho do you think was more classless tonight, Lebron with his antics for attention, or Gilbert with his vituperative and vitriolic letter? Here are my thoughts.
Gilbert spoke from the heart. Yes, it wasn’t necessarily the smartest thing to do in this day and age, where political correctness censors everyone, but it made me feel for him. He’s just an ordinary guy, a fan, a passionate person who wants his city to win and have something to be proud of.
Now LeBron, on the other hand, I just despise. Classless? The guy epitomizes it. If he wanted to sign elsewhere, why not just announce it quietly via Twitter or email or any of the myriad ways available today? Why make such a spectacle of his decision? I mean, c’mon…Kevin Durant signs an extension, tweets about it, and goes on with life, but LeBron has to take the stage, strut around, and then spit on the face of an organization that loved him…sure, they’re probably not going to be winning a championship, but do you have to humiliate them on live television? Jeez…you leave them out of the loop, you expose them on TV, and then you pat yourself on the back and call yourself a king. Right.
He has to know that he’s not just another basketball player, and he wants to be more than just a basketball player. He should have learned this lesson already when he lost last year and left without even shaking the other team’s hands. He’s a role model. He’s someone that kids look up to. And what do they see? Someone who has an ego bigger than his sizable talent. Someone who doesn’t care about his hometown, doesn’t care about loyalty, and doesn’t know what class is. They see an attention whore.
I think the Heat will be very fun to watch next year, but I’m hoping secretly that they fail spectacularly, that the three cannot mesh and coexist, and that they don’t even make the playoffs. I’m hoping that LeBron will realize that he was wrong. But that, of course, is an empty hope.

JHong621ParticipantBefore even reading the rest of your post, Nice choice of words in the first sentence.

mrknowitall313Participanti which ppl would stop comparing durant to lebron. they r 2 players on totally different levels. do u know how much bron is worth? way more than durant. its just how mike was with the commericals, shoes, and other things he had. if the free agency and the media was like it is now back then nobody cant tell me that jordan wouldnt acted the same way.

JHong621ParticipantAnd upon reading the rest of it, I completely agree. The man didn’t even flinch when he saw Cleveland fans burn his jersey. He is a robot in terms of emotion when it comes to Cleveland. I think he has completely disconnected himself from that town. And for a place called home, that’s not easy to do. This man is heartless. There’s an icebox where his heart used to be, and inside the icebox is cold EGO. I know this might be going too far, and it’s gonna be hard to do, but I’m actually boycotting watching Miami games next year. I’ll stick to highlights and reading about them. I do not want to contribute to anything that has to do with Lebron right now.

burningfloodParticipantI’m not comparing LeBron to Durant in terms of talent, although the talent gap really isn’t as big as you would think…I’m comparing LeBron to Durant as a person. Did he have to do what he did tonight? No. Do you really think he cared about donating the money from “The Decision”? No, it was just another way, in my opinion, to get attention focused on His Majesty, with the donation being an excuse. Would he have gotten less endorsements/money if he had decided to just tweet his decision, or email it to the press? No, but he would have gotten more respect from me.

thparadoxParticipantGilbert should blame himself. He was unable to get Lebron another Star to play with.
Lebron’s TV special was a severe blow to all Cleveland fans. But Gilbert is worse. He should take responsibility for what has happened. He should act with poise.
Moreover, he should not make ridiculous, vengeful claims in the heat of the moment.
This is equivalent to you breaking up with a long term girlfriend and her slandering you to all your friends.

mrknowitall313Participantim strictly talking about their off the court businesses (and the gap is far and between n talent: durant is strictly a scorer while bron can do it all) bron is a household name while durant is tryin to get there. even the casual basketball fan knows who lebron is.

NarcParticipantWell neither man was the classiest belle of the ball tonight. LeBron for using an hr of everyone’s time basically to rip the hearts of out Cavalier fans all over the state of Ohio, and Gilbert for writing that extremely scathing letter about LeBron. Gilbert sounded like a jaded ex girlfriend. To me because of that letter alone, he was definitely the less classy of the two tonight.

meisi4ParticipantVers good post! thx i would have used the exact same words. i mean it really was a bit classless of Gilbert but i think he just spoke from his heart and earned more respect than he lost for me. was it smart? no way but it was a human reaction.
just one thing i wanna make clear: lebron leaving was right. but the way? i think it was the worst way! and i think that is what you need to see…
lebron has lost a lot of my respect (and obviously not only my respect) just with the whole circus from start to the finish of this right decison from a Basketball standpoint…

meisi4Participantto add one thing: i think all the trade moves the cavs made showed that Gilbert was more of a passionate fan than wise executive right?

RakkiParticipantwhat do u expect from a man whos mom goes around sleeping with any man

JoeWolf1I like that Gilbert was one of the few willing to not kiss Lebrons a$$, but he’s writing checks the Cavs can’t cash. I think it would be great if the Cavs won a title before Miami won another one with Lebron, but I look at their roster and the free agents available, and I just don’t see it happening very soon. I vote Lebron most classless, but Gilbert gets a big minus for taking the low road, although the low road was pretty funny to listen to.

RakkiParticipantLoyalty dont mean shitzz these days. Wade is so much smarter by making them joining him instead of him joining the others

RekeDMCParticipantI don’t think LeBron “spit” in the face of Cleveland. He wanted to stay, that’s why he wanted Chris Bosh to sign with Cleveland. All he wanted was some REAL help so he could get a championship. If Bosh hadn’t gone to Miami, James might not have either

sheltwon3ParticipantGilbert is classless because if he felt this way about Lebron then he felt like this before Lebron signed with the Heat. Dont tell me someone is speaking their mind when they are just being a sore loser. He would not have said any of this if Lebron was going to come back.
