There’s been a bunch of talk about Lamar Odom getting the sixth man of the year award. I have posted on a previous post that I think this award should go to Thaddeus Young because although I see Lamar as a better overall player he’s only come off the bench in 47 games this season. A sixth man should be coming off the bench in every game in my opinion.

according to the NBA rules for the award, you just have to come off the bench more games then you start which lamar has(34 starts, 39 off bench). So by the rules he is eligible and thus should not be held back in votes due to his number of starts. At the end of the day, there was not a better 6th man then lamar odom this season.

it’s no secret you made this post after young had a solid game today…if he had 7 points on 3-8 shooting would you have muttered anything? the answer is no.

Actually I would have and I have stated it previously. Here’s the link to the post in case you need proof

I made this post to do exactly what the title says, determine what the definition of a sixth man was because it seemed strange that someone who came off the bench so little comparatively would get the award. Because someone provided an intelligent answer instead of just bashing me I now know what criteria this award is based on and in fact do agree that Lamar should get the award based on this definition.

According to the stats I used, Thad Young was the seventh best 6th man in the league this year. I looked at how many pts/reb/ast each player averaged when they game off the bench. Here are the top ten:

    1.Lamar Odom- 23.2

    2.Jason Terry- 21.3

    3.Shawn Marion- 19.4

    4.Ramon Sessions- 19.4

    5.Jamal Crawford- 19.1

    6.Lou Williams- 19.0

    7.Thad Young- 19.0

    8.JR Smith- 18.1

    9.Glen Davis- 17.9

    10.Marcin Gortat- 17.7
