    Hey guys,

I was reading one of the forum topics when the discussion of shoes/no shoes when measuring a players height arose. This has always confused me. A few examples of players differential with shoes and no shoes, respectively, are:

    Andre Drummond 6’9.75″ 6’11.75″

    Amare Stoudemire 6-8 1/2 6-10

    Chris Paul 5′ 11¾” 6′ 1″

    Andrew Bogut 6′ 11″ 7′ 0¼”

    Carmelo Anthony 6′ 6.25″ 6′ 7.5″

    Allen Iverson 5’10” 6′ 0″

    Dwight Howard 6’9″ 6’11”

How do guys get so much difference when listed in shoes. Some guys get an extra 2 inches? It is just nuts, how is that even allowed? The general average is an extra 1 or 1.2 inches. Some guys shoes cannot be this big, surely?

Then we have players whose height is perhaps understated. I just don’t think these guys are what their listed height says

    Kevin Garnett: 7’1″, not 6’11”,

    Tim Duncan: 7’0″, not 6’11

The only reason I can come up with in regards to players underestimating heights is so they can play PF, if they were to tall GMs might run to play them C?

This whole shoes no shoes concept has always alluded me and confuses me every year. Surely the NBA should just measure them only one way to avoid this controversy?

Its been talked about to death. Some are proponents of using shoes, other bare feet. There are shoes made out their that give you 2 inches, but doubt they end up playing in them so prefer the barefoot measurement, along with wingspan and standing reach (with shoe height deducted)

Well for starters their is going to be a difference when measured with shoes because they are wearing shoes on they’re feet.

I always measure a player by they’re true height value which takes into consideration a players wingspan and standing reach.

Also talking about understated heights, how long can the Thunder list Kevin Durant at 6’9″ when he’s clearly taller then most of the players listed as 7 footers?
