HitsterParticipantI liked the comparisons that ESPN have done for their current mock ottery prospects?
https://www.espn.co.uk/nba/insider/story/_/page/NBADraft24-40257447/2024-nba-draft-player-comps-all-14-projected-lottery-picksThe one that interested me was Reed Sheppard with a Steve Nash level upside? I personally see Reed as more of a shooting PG with an elite 3 point range. But would he be the sort of player who would an entire offence would be run through like Nash became?
If he has this creative upside as well as his shooting then would he be pushing for top pick or certainly the guy the Spurs would possibly look to trade up and get. An elite shooter and creator with Wemby on the same team looks cannot miss.1+ - Posted on: Tue, 06/04/2024 - 9:23pm #1264256
NorrinRaddParticipantI thought most the comparisons were laughable. Reed Sheppard is more of a smaller suped up version of Alex Caruso. I can see maybe Jalen Brunson offensively if he offensively becomes his projected peak best-case scenario. Doubt that happens. He’ll probably be somewhere in the middle leaning to the suped up version of Caruso… Nash is an offensive genius and was defensively non existent. Despite his size I think Sheppard will be a dender than Nash ever was – yet won’t ever be considered an MVP like Nash was… Payton Pritchard is a slap in the face for Sheppard. The only thing ESPN got right with comparisons for me are the ones that have been compared forever already anyways, such as Clingan to Kessler or something… Salaun is being slept on by them and comps aren’t promising at all. I actually read this article and chuckled.

sweaterflexParticipantReed’s statistical translations are pretty off the charts, which at the minimum indicates a high floor. If Alex Caruso shot like Reed he would probably be something like the 3rd best player on a championship team. Reed’s ability to read the floor on defense and strong anticipation/reflexes are a good sign for his long term offensive development, I would only have Sarr and Topic higher.

NorrinRaddParticipantthat’s kind of what I meant by a suped of version of Caruso. Reed will be anywhere from the 3rd to 6th guy imo. Nash is a terrible comp to me… The only thing going against Reed Sheppard draft wise is his height. He’s an easy plug an play.

HitsterParticipantI liked Sarr’s comparisons, Clingan’s and Castle’s..
When I see Clingan and Kessler likeness it does make me wonder might Danny Ainge be busy on draft night if he thinks Clingan has more upside than Kessler. He could get into a position to draft Clingan and move Kessler?

NorrinRaddParticipantSee, Sarr comp to JJJ has been around for a couple of months. ESPN wasn’t the first to coin that. But yeah not a bad comp there… Castle’s is off imo.

HitsterParticipantI’ve thought of Castle as an Iggy or Harrison Barnes type guy for a while. He may never be a superstar but could be the sort of intangibles guy on a hugely successful team who his team mates rave about.
