EndlessknightParticipantJust checking to see what’s the forum opinion of Jalen Brunson. Personally I think he’s underrated. He’s got good size, a great shooter, handles the ball well, yet despite all that he’s projected to be a mid second rounder. What are the flaws I’m missing?

Lotto StudParticipantHe’s Jameer Nelson, good.

EndlessknightParticipantInteresting comparisons. Nelson was a great college player and a decent NBA player. Brunson has way better size/length than Nelson and is a much better shooter.

The GoatParticipantI haven’t had a chance to watch a lot of college and haven’t seen Brunson play a full game. If you are talking about a better version of Jameer Nelson, then he’s a lottery pick. Nelson made an All Star team, there’s only about 5 players per draft on average that end up an all star. I don’t know why he’d fall to mid 2nd Rd if that’s the case. Teams shouldnt pass 30+timess on potential all star. Is a better Jameer Nelson a fair comp?

holefillers1ParticipantHe is pretty slow for a lead guard. He also relies a lot on the post up. Both of these things will hurt him at the next level. Great college player

The GoatParticipantSo he’s the same player his dad was. Rick was a end of the bench NBA guy and had a career in Australia.

holefillers1ParticipantHe relies on post ups and jump stops in the paint. When he puts his head down and drives he is doing so against guys that are going to be gaurding cubicles at Merrill Lynch next year. I like the Jose Calderon comp.

BallerScriptParticipantJameer Nelson was my comparison for Frank Mason III
How does Jalen Brunson compare against Shai Gilgeous Alexander, Trevon Duval and Landry Shamet?

Lotto StudParticipantI compared Frank Mason III to Patty Mills.

Mr. 19134ParticipantBrunson is like a slightly athletic Kyle Lowry, or even an Andre Miller type with more range. He’s very cerebral and a great shooter. His athletic limitations are overblown because of how fast he can read and react to plays. No way he drops out of the first round. If he comes back for his senior year he like wins NPOY.

tblazer_NZParticipantPoor man’s Deron Williams. Similar Build as a more solid build point guard.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantHe really uses his strength advantage over most guards at the college level. Not the quickest guy but knows how to use his body to get himself in scoring position and draw fouls. He can play out of the post and draw a double team, which is a skill that has almost become extinct among pgs in this day and age. Has really improved his outside shooting this year. Solid playmaking skills but could struggle to beat pgs off the dribble at the next level. Lack of explosiveness could also make it more difficult to finish plays at the rim. Could struggle to defend quicker and more athletic pgs as well.
I view him as a definite nba player but probably more of a backup than a starter. Probably more likely a second rounder than a first whenever he declares. I see some similarities to acie law as a college player in terms of playing style, although law was probably slightly quicker and Brunson slightly stronger.

Taylor Gang MikeParticipantHe’s Marcus Williams with a hint of Derek fisher

Evan_MilbergParticipantGreat college player with a low ceiling at the next level. Right now, this site has him pegged as a mid-second rounder for a team that could use PG depth. I think that’s about right. I think he’s be smart to come back for his senior year to see if he can get his stock into the late first round.

Taylor Gang MikeParticipantWith Jahvon Quinerly coming in next year I doubt he stays

EndlessknightParticipantIs Quinerly official? ALso ‘Nova isn’t a one and done school do even if Quinerly comes that doesn’t mean Brunson will leave.

kobyzParticipantcrazy to think he’s not a first round pick, so smart and poise, best comparison might be jj breaa, and remember breaa is great talent was X factor on championship team…
